This coffee will be fresh roasted for you. We expect Klatch Coffee will roast and ship this coffee in 1-2 business days depending on their roasting schedule.
The French Roast was blended and roasted for you by Klatch Coffee. This coffee is a selective blend of strictly hard bean coffees from Brazil, Colombia and Honduras, selected to hold up to the darker roast without losing flavor or body. In the cup is a balance of sweetness and pleasant bitterness that French roasts are known for, with smoky, chocolate and caramel notes.
Coffee a bit too strong probably because of the smokiness!
Not a big fan of the tobacco Smokey notes on this one.
Not my favorite. Kind of bitter almost burnt flavor.
I liked this blend; a little sweetness upfront, earthy, pleasant bitterness and low acidity. I enjoyed it more than DCR but not as much as Equator. French press.
Too earthy and bitter for me. When I get the brewing, cream and sugar right it’s drinkable but this morning for some reason it turned out really bad. I like some earthier dark roasts like Bitches Brew from Groundwork but this was just too much for me. I couldn’t really taste the caramel notes here. Changing to OK, since it's grown on me a little, but still my least favorite of the coffees I've been sent.
i like the chocolate and caramel notes, but coffee is a bit more bitter than what i like like.
Not terrible, but tastes kind of thin. Not digging the tobacco notes either, and they drown out the rest of the flavors. It makes for an ok daily cup, but I wouldn't get it again.
Probably our least favorite so far. Super heavy on the tobacco, which we didn't realize we wouldn't care for.
This coffee is a little too strong and earthy for us. The last two were great! Thanks!
John and Hui
Excellent blend, with robustness and without excessive acidity.
way better than the last one
This made a good cup of coffee. I keep coming back to my favorite roast - Koffee Kult Dark Roast, and this coffee was not as bold as I prefer. Still enjoyable though.
Dark beans indeed; very pleasant smoky/tobacco flavor, with slight chocolate and very subtle sweetness (molasses?). Really like this.
Not a fan of molasses, leaves a weird after taste.
Smells amazing, but not quite as strong as I was expecting.
Do not the aroma or taste of this coffee. By far not my favorite brew.
Our favorite so far!!!
Little bitter but good
We liked this one better the then DCR but not as good as the Equator.
I really enjoy French Roasts and I loved this coffee. I liked the smoky and bold smooth flavor.
The Klatch was a bit dark for me! Also as the the coffee aged it became more bitter and less appealing; I felt like I was losing the chocolate and caramel notes to smokier and more bitter overtones.
Interesting and unique flavor
This one is a close second to the Italian roast. Also loved it.
This coffee was okay. The flavor was good but not as bold/dark as I prefer.
Didn't love the taste profile, too strong. I don't love french roasts.
Just not good. The flavors don't go well. I can't even finish the bag. It is not caramel flavors at all. I love bitter coffee but this is just too bitter to drink.
We did not like this roast
Weird aroma and aftertaste...maybe the pipe tobacco??? My least favorite blend so far.
Not my favorite. A bit of ash tray smell
This is a good dark roast for the morning - strong enough to give a nice jolt, but not so strong that I can't have more than one cup.
Really good. The first roast set a really high standard but this is still really good.
Another meh! My wife and I don't hate it, but wouldn't come back for a second cup.
Good but not spectacular.
This goes really well with my French Press. I love the smoky notes, as well as the "tobacco" aspect the description mentioned. Is it possible to go even darker, though?
Loved this one. It was rich, bold, and smooth.
Not a bad french, nothing special
Good French roast. Trying to stay away from the French roast to try new things.
Craig and Bethany
Love the bold flavor and caramel notes.
This coffee is not as strong of a roast that I enjoy. My French Roast preference tends to be on the extra bold, extra dark side.
Made my first batch of this blend this morning in my French press. I'm going to have to fiddle and tinker with my recipe on this to try to balance out all the flavors. It's an extremely complex coffee with lots of flavors. The first batch came out with a predominately citrus sweetness and tart flavor, like a lime but there was also definitely a background of tobacco and molasses as the bag suggests. I really don't care for acidic coffee but if I can get the acidity down enough then I could see myself liking this one fairly well. The Equator French Roast is still my favorite.
Love this flavor! I find that I like the coffee with really oily beans. Has the best taste.
Loved this French roast. It was the right balance of bitter and slightly sweet with a hint of caramel. There was a slight chocolate smell to the beans when you open the bag that was pleasant as well. Overall, this was a fabulous coffee.
For a French Roast, this coffee displayed a wide range of distinct flavors. I was pleasantly surprised.
I think that this coffee was very good. I liked the molasses taste but I prefer the smoky flavor that came through with the labeled pipe tobacco flavor. I think it could have had a little darker/more bitter taste as it seemed a little light but overall I absolutely liked the coffee and do not regret getting it in the mail.
We adored this one! Very rich and the caramel undertone was divine.
Really bland. Not much flavor at all.
Liked it, just about the right darkness with a hint of smoky flavor
I enjoy this coffee! Not my absolute favorite but MUCH more than last month! Smooth Smokey and balanced flavor.
Not the one, but good nonetheless. Would drink again.
Loved that unusual bag with its little resealable slit!
Coffee seemed a bit more flavorful than last couple have been, with less of the herbal aspect I had noticed. Still not up to my beloved double dark, though!
Not very flavorful, very mellow especially for a dark roast.
This coffee was fine, but didn't seem particularly remarkable. In fact, I can barely recall it.
Rich and smooth taste! Good coffee!
Coffee is fine, if a little middle of the road to my tastes. Comes a little too close to the burnt notes typical of Starbuk's brews that I loathe. Not something I would buy for espresso grinds in the future, but not bad.
As advertised, smokey, rich and bold is a great summary. Very smooth, without the tangy or sour notes that usually ruin (for me) many South American coffees. I will try this one again.
It was good but not particularly memorable.
Not as Earthy or Full Bodied as first selection.
Love it! My favorite in awhile. I'd love to buy a few more if possible.
Too smoky. Good amount of body and flavor otherwise.
Very good! Great blend
Too dark and syrupy for me.
I normally like French roast but this wasn’t my favorite
It was okay, but the dark roast in my first month so much better.
This one's the ticket. I am not normally a fan of French roast, but this one is very balanced. The tar was very easy to background with an adjustment of my grinder. Brought the caramel to the surface. The smoke is there, but not overpowering.
My husband drank all of this while I was gone, but he said it was pretty good!
absolutely love it. when i first smelled it i thought it would be too smoky, but it's only mildly smoky with a good blend of caramel and smoke. perfect.
Loved the richness of this bean. It brewed very well in my jura J6
A little too smoky for me. I liked Delano’s special dark a bit better.
Very balanced cup of coffee. There was a fine balance between sweet and smoky!
Coffee was good but I enjoyed the last bag of coffee way more.
This coffee didn’t really have much flavor.
I will definitely drink it all but would not buy it again.
Beans smell amazing. The coffee is excellent; I can taste the caramel notes!
Update: I love this for cold brew, but liked it less for pour over. Found it a little too smoky hot. That said, I am mostly cold brewing right now, since it’s still summer. May want slightly lighter coffees during the late fall and winter.
Nice complexity, but French Roast are a bit too dark for me.
I liked this blend even better than the first. The smoky and caramel notes and hints of chocolate were made for lazy weekend mornings.
This was our favourite coffee so far!
Good coffee overall. Dark, dry-looking beans were easy to grind and produced a satisfying bloom with the first pour over. Nice balanced flavor, with some surprising sweetness.
I would get any time.
Fantastic!! More like this!!!
Love love love this coffee. Hint of very dark chocolate, balanced acidity, great black or with a splash of cream.
Smooth and delicious!
I historically enjoy few French Roasts, so this rating likely reflects my taste-preferences more than the coffee itself. The bitterness in the first sip caught me off guard, and I was not a fan. For subsequent cups, I didn't find the bitterness overpowering, but didn't find there to be enough in the flavor profile beyond that for me to enjoy. It was fine: better than many coffees I've enjoyed in my life, but I've had much better with MistoBox as well. (Reviewing this a few weeks late, so done to the best of my memory)
Smooth yet bold. Very good roast. Some smokiness as well. Enjoyed as a press and drip style.
Overall a good French Roast. Not overly bitter and well balanced. Previously wasn't a huge fan of the french roasts I've picked up at the store (like Starbucks Blend) but this one overall was a solid cup of coffee.
Best cup I've had in a long time! Strong, bold flavor with not a lot of bite!
Not bad but not a lot of flavor.
I have had this coffee before. There right about the low acidity. However, I agree with the others for a French roast and a dark roast it's too light and lacks the body I would expect. I found the flavor profile to be very flat. I have brewed this with the following methods and similar results with all.
Espresso Machine, Clever, V60
Very good closer to a 4.5. Tasted a very slight hint of chocolate. Bold full bodied.
Not flavorful and kind of bland. I liked the first roast better. It was not very smooth.
Flavors were good. It was rich and bold
Getting closer to happy.
It had to grow on me. The tobacco overtone is interesting. Makes a great drip coffee though. I liked it better than my second coffee I received. Coworkers love it though!
I don’t usually like French roasts but this one is yummy!!!
Max and Liz
Bit sharp. Not loving bitterness of possibility French Roast
Medium Bold flavor but I could not taste the caramel notes. It is a good coffee but not excellent. I expected Bold and I was a little underwhelmed. Better than work coffee.
This was nice, we enjoyed the rich, smoky flavor
Very good! Great dark roast with Smoky, and chocolate notes
I like it, but not as much as the first. Also just purchased a pour over system, so not sure if that changes recommendations going forward.
I enjoyed the subtle flavor of the chocolate, molasses, and pipe tobacco.
David and Janelle
This bag didn’t last long! A familiar French roast style with layers of subtle notes like burnt toffee, cedar and vegetal moss. Will definitely explore more of this brand!
It was good
Smoky, dark, but smooth and delicious
strong - flavorful, smooth.
It's good but I don't love it enough to drink it black.
Too bitter and too smokey.
not our cup of tea
Absolutely LOVE this coffee, didn’t think I would like the chocolate notes but think that’s what keeps it from being bitter. It’s strong and dark like espresso. First home coffee that will keep me away from the overpriced Americanos I’m addicted to buying.
Good, fresh taste. Regardless of brewing method I get mostly just a smoky flavor but not getting the other notes like caramel or chocolate.
Good. Keep them coming like this.
I can see how this may be tailored toward certain types of people, but this is not for me unfortunately. The pipe tobacco inside smells amazing, but doesn't mix well for me when it is time to drink it.
Good coffee but not bold enough.
I liked the intensity of flavor and smokiness. The roast was almost too dark, bordering on burnt. This coffee was slightly too acidic for my tastes. I had to drink it with a lot of cream to compensate.
Really thick and tasty!
Leather taste, not a compelling roast. Disappointed in this coffee.
This arrived just in time! I was able to finish my initial bag of coffee the day before my next bag arrived...it seems that I'm on the best schedule for me. Today I had the chance to try my new bag. It's definitely good quality coffee, but I feel like the first bag was more my style. I say this because I liked
Dillano's simple packaging presence, rougher taste notes, and the feel of the perfect working man's coffee too start the day.
I love the sweet flavors and boldness. This coffee is my #1 go to. I’m glad to see some coffee from other areas.
This coffee has grown on me with every cup-at first I didn’t like the smokiness and now I have grown to like the aroma more and more. Keep up the good selections and looking forward to the next selection!
Very good, we really liked this one. I'd give it a 4.5 if I could.
Feels too light on the end. Not dark and bold.
It had a kind of leathery flavor, kind of earthy, but not in a good way. Left kind of an old taste in my mouth. Not punchy enough. Not enough of a bite.
Best coffee shipped to date! Excellent, dark smoky and smooth!
we said no french roast, disappointed we got this.
Has that taste that I hate in in coffee that I don't know how to identify, but I think on this bag it might be the "pipe tobacco" flavor. My husband really likes it, this isn't a bad coffee, it's just very much not to my tastes.
This was a really great one--maybe would like something even a little darker!

This one is amazing! It's been my favorite so far. I love the smell and rich flavors. Thanks for selecting this for me!
My husband loved this coffee. It's rich and terrifying looking straight out of the bag so he thought it was going to make his hair stand on end but he was pleasantly surprised by the rich and smooth taste with no bitterness. It's a winner.
smooth, but a very strange, unpleasant aftertaste.
I like this much more than the special dark blend I had last go around, it is good, but I could use a little more classic coffee flavor.
This could free grew a lot on me in the last week or two of drinking it. Very close to my “ideal coffee”
a little boring to me. nothing significant about the shots I was able to pull. smooth, but nothing particularly complex.
Great roast for both espressos and capps/lattes. I REALLY enjoyed this as a straight espresso. Rich, roasty (but not overly so) and great notes of dark chocolate caramel. Only complaint is that it's a bit oily and gets caught in the grinder. More an issue of staying on top of cleanliness and maintenance than of the bean.
Loved the smoothness of this blend. I thought it best served hot, as opposed to cold brewed. Good choice!
The beans are very dark. Very strong aroma. It was waiting to escape the shipping box. There is a very strong coffee flavor. It is bitter and smoky but has a smooth finish with the chocolate and caramel notes. This is right up my alley. I love the strong dark roasts.
Very solid dark roast
Bold flavor with chocolate undertones. Slightly bitter.
Very good coffee - best yet. I do need help with the latest shipment - shows shipping on August 28th - not received as of today. Can you assist? Tracking Number: 9400115901321328306583
Wow! Wonderful flavors, smooth with low acidity. Favorite thus far.
Lack of complexity, one-dimensional and the body is a bit thin for me. I prefer multiple layers of flavors with a more full body.
Nice power but smooth.
Very strong taste. Hints of baker's chocolate.
Good but not as rich and flavorful as the previous coffee. Wasn't as jazzed about the slight bitterness.
I like it, but I think I prefer the previous coffee over this one. The French roast is a little to bitter for my liking. I prefer the sweet, caramel notes of the previous coffee, but I am willing to try something new!
I like a darker roast, but this was too dark for me. The consistency is almost chalky and too oily. The grounds would stick to the grinder from the oils. Too bold for me.
