This coffee will be fresh roasted for you. We expect Topeca Coffee Roasters will roast and ship this coffee in 1-2 business days depending on their roasting schedule.
This is the Italian Roast brought to you by Topeca Coffee Roasters. This Italian Roast isn't like most Italian roasts you've had. This one is a developed medium roast that harmonizes caramelization with the classic coffee profile. This cup is rich and comforting, with notes of toasted marshmallow, baker's chocolate and a roasty finish.
I am really enjoying this. Had great success brewing this in my French press. Maybe my technique is just improving, but it was rich, smooth, with a barely smoky aroma and that hint of bitter chocolate flavor but overall the coffee was not bitter.
Solid coffee with no acidity for someone that likes a bit of a darker roast. Not burnt though.
I enjoyed this a lot
Not enough chocolate tones
Well balanced, a solid coffee. Nothing spectacular, but good.
Not a big fan of Italian Roasts...
Absolutely delicious! I love everything about this one. It is smooth and has great notes to it. It is even still delicious when it cools down when I get too caught up at work to drink it all while it is hot. This may be my favorite one so far!
I don't think this is particularly roasty. It is dry and chocolately. It's enjoyable. Dry and bitter, but not especially roasty.
5 stars. It is exactly as described. Complex and delicious.
So-So flavor.... I prefer medium or light or roasted coffee’s
Not my favorite, not very complex profile.
A good coffee, especially when a wee bit of darker roast is added.
Not a fan of this coffee. Maybe it is the roast. I will likely not finish this shipment . Hopefully next selection will suit my tastes better
Unfortunately I am not enjoying this coffee at all. It has less flavor than Folgers and no caffeine kick either. I gave it and honest try but half way thru the bag I decided to cut my loses and replace this with Peete's coffee. If I could return it I would.
I’m seeing all of these have chocolate as a flavor— there’s a theme here and it’s working!
Too dark, and many of the beans were broken.
Bill and Maggie
I loved this blend! The roast and flavor profile are perfect!
This was quite different than what I'm used to, which has made it so enjoyable for me. The aroma on this is much stronger/biting (in a good way), reminding me of a bitter chocolate. This has helped convince me that I'd like to continue to move away from my comfort zone of dark roasts for future coffees.
Rich and smooth!
There are a lot of tastes in there. Almost overpowers the basic coffee taste. Very fruity
If brewed right this blend has strong notes of cocoa and dark chocolate, but doing so was ultimately difficult.
Really enjoyed this. The dark roast beans are over powering, but that's what I like.
Yes, this is different than most Italian roasts and we really liked it. It was a little bit more medium than dark and it surprised us! We liked the bitter chocolate, the toasted marshmallow and the smokey finish. It was smooth and very enjoyable. It was rich and comforting!
Topeca is a local coffee for us, here in Tulsa. We have had it before and always love it!
This is just okay. A bit too dark and not the best flavor.
This is a really great blend of dark coffee with subtle flavors
not bad but a bit on the dark side for our taste
Really loving this! True to it's description. Chocolate notes without being 'sweet'.
Tasty, but a bit boring. The blend has a nice smokey smoothness, and the notes of toasted marshmallow definitely shines through. But we found the flavor a bit one-dimensional, lacking depth and without an evolving character over time. While sometimes we enjoy a simply cup, this is perhaps a bit too simple for our preferences. Was a fairly flexible coffee to brew, scaling well from french press to Chemex.
dark, chocolate, bold darkest is my favorite
I like this, but the only thing I don't like is the packaging. Makes it hard to measure.
Amazing flavor. Would love to order more.
Best cup if coffee I've had so far.
enjoyed the full flavor, not bitter. Much smoother than the Sumatra. Good choice!
Didn't like the floral tones to this coffee. This brand is popular in Oklahoma City, was hoping to get roasters that are not easily obtained here.
way too dark
Loved this one
I like this very much, rate 4.5. I also enjoyed the previous Dillanos Unity, rate 4.6. I'm looking forward to the next one. Thank you.
I was skeptical of the "toasted marshmallow" tasting note on the bag, but the flavor really comes through and makes for a smooth, bold, and playful cup of coffee. Will be checking out this roaster in the future!
Great roast. Loads of dark chocolate and earthiness. Highly recommended.
I really enjoyed the Italian Roast. The beans were lighter so I thought it would not be as bold as the previous Double Dark roast but it was definitely full bodied. Very smooth, no bitter after taste. I didn't taste the flavors like I did with the Double Dark but it was a nice alternative. Definitely not acidic or burnt.
I can't say that I had a preference between the two coffees because I am enjoying both on their own merits. I can say that these two coffees are right in line with my drinking preference so good job!
Great afternoon cup
Best one yet.
Favorite thus far!
Love it! Great flavors and roast level.
It wasn't bad but I had to blend it with some other darker roasted beans to get it to where I wanted it to be.
This was a curious, and disappointing, blend. The description sounded perfect - dark, bitter chocolate, smokey - but when I brewed a pot it lacked both the aroma and bolder flavor I was expecting. There was virtually no odor from the ground beans or the coffee. The taste, while pleasant, was more mild than bold. I tried stronger brews on the second and third days, but same impression. Not the "GOOD MORNING!" effect I so enjoy. Perhaps a pleasant afternoon cup...
This was a a great alternative too the first bag...rich full body and flavorful
For me, this coffee is good, but not great. Hard to put my finger on it, but I haven't savored it like I have the past few shipments. Maybe it's just a tad too bold for my taste.
This is working great for me. Its a dark roast, but not too oily.
Clean through and through with a nice toasty notes. I rate this second only to Velo French Roast.
Best coffee so far, smooth amazing!
Pretty good taste, but nothing different
Better than the previous batch for sure. Still a little dark for me. And a little bit too bitter. But overall lovely. Thanks!
A dark flavor plate that can prove to be a easy sell for your "mainstream" drinker. Subtle notes of chocolate, and smokey boldness don't go anywhere impressive. Italian Roast is light on the mouth. A pour over will brew a clean cup that attempts to highlight the limited flavor range. On the flip-side a immersion brew can deepen the dark and bold qualities, while mudding the overall cup.
Very good. I usually like darker roasts and this seemed a little under-roasted for Italian roast, but it was excellent and I enjoyed having a lighter roast.
Brenda & Keith
really liked this coffee. our favorite so far
Overall good coffee, just no really pop in flavor for me
Not a very deep flavor, requires larger than normal amount to achieve bold taste
Italian roasts are typically too dark for my taste and typically have a burnt flavor. This one was nice. It did not have a burnt flavor but it also had some chocolate notes and other aspects to a dark roast that I do like.
I really do not like this coffee.....not rich, but more like a Colombian coffee. Did not taste at all like the Italian roast I have had in the past.
Similar to last but with better flavor.
This coffee doesnt taste good, to weak please dont send me this again
This is wonderful coffee -- rich, yet smooth. It is very true to its description. It is the best we have received to date.
More my style than the last
This is excellent. It's a tad darker than I usually like, but I was blown away by the flavor. I think this is perfect. I don't know how you guys can do better. If you just sent this as the rest of my shipments, I'd be very happy (but...let's not do that...).
This was a very very good coffee. It was roasty, chocolatey, and dark. There was little to no brightness, which is great. I would love more coffees similar to this one.
Like the bold, rich taste, yet not bitter. Very nice.
Full bodied with just a touch of sour that I normally associate with a lighter roast. Pleasant enough but lacking distinct flavors. I usually would prefer coffee with more pronounced earthy or musty flavors than this bag offered. Still, this is an enjoyable coffee.
Wow this is delicious. It's a very dark roast, which I like, and it has a smooth chocolate flavor. If you're used to medium roasts this might not have enough flavor for you but I think it's simple and good. Also for a dark roast it has a lot of caffeine.
Super smooth. This is an excellent roast.
This is very good coffee. I like that the beans are not oily, the taste is very good
For their darkest roast, and "Italian" roast at that, this seems very light. I guess it's possible I got a mis-labeled or mis-roasted batch, but way too light.
I like deep flavors and while this coffee is not bad, it has a weak taste.
This coffee was good, but tasted a bit bland to me. I prefer coffees with deeper flavor notes.
The coffee was as advertised and I really liked it. It was velvety yet warm and I found myself drinking more of it because I could have it black or with a splash of creamer and nutmeg! I really enjoyed your last selection.
I didn't find it to be bitter or incredibly acidic, it was warm and inviting like sitting next to a fireplace in the winter. I definitely prefer the last shipment than the first. Thank you.
This coffee did not seem to have as much flavor as my first shipment. I tried adding more coffee grounds when I brewed it and it only tasted a little bitter or burnt. I can't believe that this is considered a DARK roast - it actually seemed lighter in color and flavor than most coffees I've drunk. Won't want this one again.
A good cup of coffee! Would ideally like something with a bit more intense of a flavor,
I am enjoying this coffee very much, there are a lot of flavors and none of them fighting. A wonderful pick-me-up :)
Excellent flavor, rich dark coffee taste
Wonderful flavor! Excellent Bloming!
Great bean! Perfect bold flavor - much more flavor than the blended-sourced French Roast, in my opinion. Please keep up the great single-sourced selections!
Best Coffee so far
It seemed lighter than the last. Good, but I think I like them a little darker and bolder.
I realized I forgot to write a review and change my shipment frequency. I went through the first bag in 2 weeks, but this one has taken a little longer because I've been traveling. I adjusted where I think I need to for the 4th shipment...
Maybe they influenced my taste buds by saying it on the package, but I could taste and enjoy the 'toasty marshmallow' and subtle smokiness of this one. I enjoyed the flavor, but it wasn't as rich as the first blend. Very little bitterness, so I didn't want to add cream or sugar (a good thing). Because I love dark, oily, aromatic beans, this one was lighter than most coffees I choose, but I'm here to learn!
Nice strong and dark roast.
My favorite shipment yet. Great smooth full flavor, with subtle chocolate and caramel. Acidity seems somewhere in the middle, very pleasant. So far only drip brewed but I bet it would be even better with my AeroPress.
Very solid Italian. Didn't blow me away as I feel like it wasn't terrible my different from Italians I've had in the pat, but I did enjoy it.
what the HECK are we doing receiving "their darkest roast"? I can't even believe how badly this matched what we want in a coffee. I'm going back and rating these on the off chance that we MIGHT get something that we actually like. I went to the store, purchased a light roast, and tried to "dumb this down" as it was awful. I guess not rating anything means I now am getting exactly what we hate. This sucks.
Perfect blend of smoky and nutty! It's a wonderful balance! Perfect perfection!
Good coffee. I've used it both for hot and cold brews. I would get this again.
Too bitter. Too strong.
Excellent well rounded roast.
Excellent cup of coffee!
hits the spot for a dark roast. complex flavors. very enjoyable. a little bit of an acidic finish.
really enjoyed its balance
We are almost done w/ the Italian roast from Topeca. My wife detected the chocolate & smoky notes but not the caramel. She rated it a 5; I gave it a 4.
so so good. the chocolate marshmallow flavor notes description on the bag is spot on.
I love this coffee. Rich and smooth. One of my favorites
My new personal-favorite all-time-wow-where-has-this-coffee-been-all-my-life blend. There's an after-flavor that is there with every sip and it's gooooood! Very excellent taste!
Good bean. Brews well. No complaints.
I liked the strength and flavor of this coffee. It was not too bitter - had a smooth taste.
Excellent dark roast. Just the level of complexity I was looking for. Would enjoy this again.
I love the chocolate undertones - really good cup of coffee. Holds up nicely to the cream.
Absolutely delicious, with an interesting and balanced flavor. Smooth and strong.
I'm not sure what went wrong with this one. It tasted awful and burnt no matter how I changed the brewing technique.
Really really enjoyed this!
hearty and flavorful
Amazing Coffee! Can taste the chocolate and enjoying the bitterness.
Very nice cup of coffee. Great flavor. Not too robust.
Now - for those who love dark chocolate, this will be a 5, not a 4. So my rating is personal. I prefer sweet chocolate with a dark round finish. This is a highly distinctive brew and will absolutely appeal to discerning coffee lovers. I needed to brew it a bit weaker to obtain my balance of flavors.
Good Stuff! Well rounded, full bodied.
Oh my goodness! Soooo good! I can't even explain it, but it's amazing. Perfectly smoky, smooth, great aftertaste. A phenomenal cup.
This is not your typical Italian Roast. I was surprised by the notes of chocolate, brown sugar and citrus when I opened the bag and smelled the aroma of the beans. I was fully expecting to see black, oily beans inside, but this was not the case. The medium brown beans brewed into a dark liquid with a slight red hue and contained hints of fruit and caramel when tasted. While I enjoyed the coffee, I gravitate toward Italian Roasts that are deep and smoky and will kick you out of bed. For me, this is a pleasant afternoon coffee or dessert beverage to be enjoyed later in the day.
good caffeine content, good flavor
I would give it a 3 1/2 if I could. I like this better than the French Roast. But not a favorite.
Delicious, but a little smokey overall for me. Would be a great after dinner coffee.
Excellent complex coffee. There is a bit of toasted smoke to it, but also an excellent sweetness--even without sugar. Enjoyed this one immensely.
Loved the boldness of this coffee. It had a nice, pronounced flavor without excess bitterness or acidity. Nice, nutty notes and a hint of sweetness.
Unfortunately I didn't care for this coffee....tasted and smelled bland and was similar to grocery store coffee...
Not very bold and lacks character. Bland flavor
Definitely one of the best. Great flavor, no edge or bitterness.
boldness is good but overall lacking complexity. italian roast tend to fall short for me in general so others may still enjoy
Alex and Joe
Smooth, but thought it was a touch bland/mild for a Italian roast.
This one was my absolute favorite. Incredibly sweet and tasted like dessert. i was excited to make a cup every morning
Great coffee, very smooth
Great bold flavor with subtle favors.
delicous! loved the marshmallow over a campfire taste.
Hmm just ok to us-not as flavorful as we expected from the description.
