This is the Dark Roast brought to you by Populace Coffee. This coffee is a custom blend of coffees from Brazil and Nicaragua. This combination of coffees create a unique harmony of flavors that are greater than the sum of its parts. This coffee is perfect for brewing as drip to enjoy the smooth, rich cup with notes of dark chocolate and allspice.
This is not for us. Tastes a little fruity. We like roasty toasty
Not quite as full bodied and rich as we like. Flavor notes were excellent as was the freshness. Just not quite as much “oomph.” We use a French press with a medium grind and 3 scoops (oz) per press. We did 4 scoops with a better effect but didn’t want to do more and over-do it.
It was a great taste and very smooth. It was dark, but not too dark that it was bitter.
In French press this is delicious.
Do not like Dark Roast.
I didn't like the allspice.
It was really good, easy to drink, a little on the light side though. Not as strong as I usually get.
I ordered a dark roast and received a light roasted coffee. I roasted a cup of beans in a frying pan and it was excellent coffee. I would like to give your company a 2nd chance for my business. I was really impressed by your company founders on Shark Tank that is why I got a subscription.
I was worried at first since this was considered a dark roast, however it definitely is more medium. There weren't really any distinct flavors but the coffee has a blended enjoyable flavor with no bitterness to it.
Nose was fair. Palate was lifeless.
I liked it but wouldn't consider it a dark roast. It was more of a medium roast whereas I prefer something bolder.
I liked it, but I definitely prefer a stronger, bolder flavor than this. I'm not sure else how to describe my preference other than that. On a day to day basis, I actually enjoy Bustelo Supreme which I know is lower end, store bought, and mass produced, but it's really flavorful.
Reasonably balanced dark roast with undistinctive flavor. No notes stand out for us. Not bad but I would not purchase again.
this is not a dark roast; barely a medium roast; certainly not a second crack
Pretty good. Not as tasty as I'd hoped but it is smooth
This is the best cup of coffee I’ve had in a long time! Very smooth taste.
Definitely should not be categorized as a dark roast. It was watered down and kind of stale tasting. I ground the beans several different ways from fairly coarse to very fine because I thought maybe I was doing something wrong. I would compare it to brewing a cup of Folgers pouring half of it out and filling the cup back up with water.
We like a ‘bold’ flavored Dark Roast. This coffee feels more like a medium roast; just our opinion... flavor is ‘ok’
A little bit acidic, may have been due to ratio of beans to water in the brew.
Kinda made me feel nauseous :(
The best coffee I've had from Mistobox so far.
I loved this, and I loved that the package was compostable. Delicious and good for the earth.
My favorite so far.
Not the best cup of coffee I’ve had but not the worst either. It’s the right intensity as I don’t like “Starbucks harsh” or like burnt espresso, but it just doesn’t seem to have a lot of body or flavor/taste if that makes sense.
This wasn’t bold or flavorful enough for me. It also seemed acidic. This was our first shipment so hopefully we will get something more to our liking next time.
Tasty not bitter.
This seems more like a medium than a dark roast. The flavor is fine, but it tastes much lighter than expected.
It was not as strong or dark as I would like it.
I liked it!
I like it a little bolder.
I could go for something with a more full or rich mouthfeel than this. Something darker. This looked and tasted more like a medium coffee. I didn’t get dark chocolate from this but think the bag’s description of peanut butter was dead on with a little spice.
For the next bag, I’d love something more syrupy maybe in the brown sugar, caramel direction? Super round and rich. (Looking at the coffee description wheel! So helpful!)
Too chocolaty for me.
Was very stale tasting. Don't think it was freshly roasted. Wouldn't mind trying a different batch of it.
I love it!!!! I love its nuttiness and being my first purchase from Mistobox, I can’t wait to see what’s next. This Populace roast is delicious. Makes my morning :)
it was good but i think i prefer others
Thus far this coffee that started my subscription was my favorite. It had a dark chocolate and rich taste rather than smoky...
Had a difficult time getting the extraction to work out; came out too watery no matter what I tried.
I really enjoyed this blend. Very smooth with some complex flavors, though not as dark or roasty as I typically like for my espresso.
This was good. Super smooth. Not as dark as I normally drink, but really enjoyable.
Very low acidity which I enjoyed. I would prefer something a touch sweeter.
love the nutty flavor after taste
I thought it did not enough finish.
Not as full roast as I normally prefer
Flavor was too mild
Good. Enjoyed the low acidity.
I felt like this one was too watery after brewing normally with the two methods i use one is a french press which i can add more grounds to and it was ok then but the other method is re-usable k-cup which i can not on this add more grounds to. Would not get a again for me
Delicious- no acidity
A little brighter, but flavorful and smooth
Would prefer a darker coffee.
Ellen and Chris
A bit too much chocolate
Really terrible coffee. Watery with a powerful sour aftertaste. Made one pot and will throw away the rest.
a bit lighter than I usually drink. not bad- good aroma, definitely nutty
A good, flavorful cup of coffee. A little more blond that I usually brew. I would label this a medium dark roast, not a truly dark roast.
I have only had one cup so far, but it was smooth with almost no acidity. Even my wife who isn't a huge coffee fan liked it.
Coffee is just okay too sour for our taste.
I liked the flavor not the acid. ~27 grams course ground to 265 ml water and 4.5 min steep in French Press
Certainly not a coffee expert by any means, but this one didn't seem to match my preferences. Too light in color and flavor. A blend and not single origin. Description says perfect for brewing as drip when I said I use a French press. Need something darker and bolder next time.
Fruity hint, good coffee but I like bold, robust, flavor
“One of the best coffees I’ve ever had” -Jeramey
Delicious for pour over, but slightly too acidic in espresso, to my taste.
A little too dark for my tastes.
Was not a Dark Roast as I thought it would be.
Very, very good
I thoroughly enjoyed this! I loved the nuttiness followed by the hunts of dark chocolate.
Taste like a coffee you would drink by a camp fire
Not a fan. Light-medium roast at best. Robusta like aroma from beans. Harsh, metallic like notes. Tastes like a low quality grocery store coffee. Very disappointing. Sorry to be so harsh. Expecting better for my first Misto delivery.
No aftertaste , chalky mouthfeel
This roast is not what I would call "dark roast". It is barely a medium roast. The coffee seems to be very high quality and has a brilliant flavor profile, yet seems to lack the depth part of it. When I pour the water over the powdered grind, the foam is slightly off-white. This to me indicates a lighter roast. I do like it and am enjoying it very much.
Not as rich as I hoped. A little acidic. But some nice notes.
Nice balanced flavor but lighter than I prefer my dark roast. However it makes for a great morning brew.
Shipment sat for a few weeks with USPS so that may have affected it(beans are pretty dry), but flavor was lacking. I taste nutty notes but nothing else.
I liked the coffee very much. I currently use a french-press to brew my coffee.
I typically like something a bit bolder/richer. My go-to coffee is Trader Joe's French Roast.
Ok, not that memorable
Loved this one
Tested more like a breakfast blend than a dark roast. I will say it smelled incredible, but I was let down once a ground it up and brewed it. I do have a burr coffee grinder
Good, but a bit too much of a sour taste to me. Note I only drink coffee as espresso either in an Americano or most often a Latte.
Disappointing. Not as dark as we like. Too many "flavor notes"--we just like the taste of COFFEE. Preferably from a single origin.
Incredibly bitter. Couldn’t even finish the bag we found the taste to be so unpleasant.
Like I'm having coffee in a fancy coffee shop in Seattle. Wonderful.
Smelled great, not brewed strong enough initially. Adding more coffee makes it too acidic
It grew on me through the week, but my initial reaction was negative. I'm working through your tasting and flavor notes guide to try to become better at describing what I like and don't like. As I'm just starting out, I'll note that I felt like this was supper nutty - to the extent that it almost tasted like it was artificially flavored. I know it wasn't, which is cool to learn about, but for me it was too nutty.
Fantastic choice. I’ve had it as a French press, and it tastes like some of the more flavorful pour overs I’ve had. The beans smell great, too!
Nice subtle flavor with no burnt taste like the French Roast I sometimes buy.
I loved the flavor of this coffee, it was very rich for what I typically get but I did really like the flavor a lot.
This is a good tasting coffee with hints of milk chocolate and marshmallow. Unfortunately, I felt like it was a little thin and could have had a longer and more rich aftertaste. Looking forward to trying the next curated batch.
Very nice mildly dark roast with pronounced nutty flavor.
Very smooth, not bitter at all. Was as advertised with chocolate and nutty notes.
Not as dark as I would've liked. I didn't enjoy it at all. Had a weird after taste that reminded me of instant coffee.
Wow. Really good. No hint of bitterness. Very smooth and bold flavors. Great choice.
Overall very smooth. A little too light for my taste
Too earthy and bold for my taste.
One-dimensional. Nothing complex here. Bit of a filmy, burnt aftertaste. Upfront and steady flavor dominated by nuttiness. Reminds me of Wawa coffee.
I wouldn’t say this was a great dark roast but definitely better than what is available in the stores. I would say it’s on the same level as a Peet’s dark roast coffee.
Coffee is very smooth with good flavors and doesn’t leave you with a bitter taste.
This was weak in my French press regardless of how much coffee I used but quite good in my drip coffee maker. It is the sort of coffee I generally like - right up my alley. I like the subtle nutty flavor. My palate may not be discerning enough to detect chocolate or allspice notes but I like the coffee very much - the flavor, the roast, the acidity level.
Very good. Definitely tasted the nutty vibes. When I brewed it, it had a little red tint to it and I was skeptical but it turned out to taste great. Love it but down to try other types of dark roast.
Not a fan of flavored coffee. Would prefer bold coffees like French roast.
Aromatic and robust. Very smooth with a subtle chocolate taste. So good in the morning!
Smooth, but taste came across as fairly bland to me.
The beginning flavor is good but it has a tobacco like aftertaste to it.
we couldn't drink it. threw it away
The coffee was shipped on Dec 23 and I received it on Jan 2 but I hope that had to do with holiday mail delays. I did love the coffee.
Did not care for this blend. Need to change for next delivery.
Loved the taste & texture.
Bold, rich flavor, delicious! We thoroughly enjoyed this coffee as espresso.
Nicely balanced. Great chocolate and nutty flavor come through, specifically with the Chemex.
Just a tad fruity. But a decent balance of chocolate and nuttiness.
Blend was rich but was put off by overwhelming nutty/peanut smell of beans and taste of brew.
Nice aroma. Lacked body.
I've just finished my first pot, and I LOVE IT! It's delicious. I can't wait to drink it again tomorrow. I was so excited when I smelled it, I almost brewed a cup right then and there, but my patience paid off.
It’s smooth and flavorful. I think it’s good.
Loved it! Dark roast and not acidic. Thanks!
Too bitter & "overall flavor" not pleasing - thanks! Of course, please take this particular selection off of any future shipments 2 us.
Not as many fruit notes with a little lack of depth?
The beans are very very dry. no oil on any of them. not a great flavor
Super yummy, rich blend. We are enjoying the nutty flavor!
Definitely nutty. Has a distinct dusty(?) flavor to it that I think comes from the kind of roast. May not be the best for espresso, which is what I exclusively drink.
Delicious nutty flavor
Another okay coffee. It’s not quite the dark roast I’m looking for. Beans were light in color and dry, which usually results in a more acidic, sour cup of coffee.
Expected this coffee to be darker, richer and more robust.
Not my favorite
Far to light a roast. Closer to a medium/light roast in color and flavor. I'd like to see a far darker roast akin to Peet's or Philz dark roasts.
Not quite strong enough. Good tasting notes.
This may be my new favorite coffee! Just all-around excellent!
It was okay, but we tend to like coffees that are a little more robust, like sumatra
I was really looking forward to trying this new bean but was a little disappointed. The flavor profile says rich dark chocolate notes, but I found it a little bitter and weak.
I liked the hint of chocolate and rich, robust taste. I do prefer a slightly darker roast, however.
Love the toasty almost peanut buttery-ness.
Much more bitter than most. DId not like as much as last week
Good dark roast without tasting burnt, smooth texture, rich flavors. Overall, very good.
Mild at first and developed into a rich chocolaty flavor that sat nicely on my tongue. Was happy with the complexity.
This blend had me savoring every sip. I absolutely loved the flavor.
Really good. The beans smelled of toasted marshmallows. Very smooth and rich.
No better or worse than any coffee - no distinct flavor at all.....didn't taste chocolate or allspice......Pretty blah
Notes of bittersweet chocolate and spice. Fitting for this time of year (winter).
Okay for a one time shipment. The Brazilian beans were not doing it for me.
Maybe was getting used to a new brew method- but was a little acidic to us. Could totally be user error.
Kevin & Erin
Fantastic! Great dark roast -- but not too dark!
Very dry and doesn’t taste as intense as I’d hoped. Reminds me of Folgers’ rebranded 1850 coffee (which isn’t that great either). Seems kinda cheap :/
This makes an ok cup of coffee. It's tempramental to how long it is steeped, to little and it's light and bland, too much and it's sour. It has the tang that I associate with dry aging which is never my favorite. When the steep is right down the middle I get a very earthy flavor. I don't pick up the allspice in the tasting notes but I do get the dark dark chocolate described.
I thought the coffee was good, not great. It is certainly on the darker side but is not full-bodied or particularly striking in any flavor.
Liked that it was a bit lighter
This was a perfect, non-oily dark roast bean for my super automatic.
Didn’t like the dark chocolate
Dawn and Michael
Delicious. Although not as bold as I had thought it would be.
Smooth tasting, not bitter
I liked the coffee very much. It was dark and rich tasting.
Great taste, seems pretty light for a dark roast. Very rich but not overwhelmingly so.
My first thoughts about this coffee was that it was not dark enough for my taste and that it was more of a medium roast. However I do like this coffee and taste the hint of chocolate and maybe even a cola flavor. I do believe this coffee has opened the door for me to try lighter roast in the future.
Not crazy about this coffee at all I did not think it tasted Rich or chocolatey I thought it tasted a little bitter and like old ground coffee from the grocery store
Flavor wasn’t as rich/deep/bold as I would have liked.
I prefer dark coffees made in my electric percolator. Chocolate undertones were mild. I thought this coffee was a little flat tasting. I didn't pick up the allspice. Not a bad morning coffee but not exactly full bodied.
Overall just average coffee. It lacked bold flavor that would make it stand out. It makes a nice iced coffee with flavors that can prop it up. Definitely not a coffee that I would drink by itself.
Best so far.
The unique flavor/spice notes just don't do anything for me. I tried grinding to different levels of fine/course, but this is the first coffee in a while that for me I use up the bag but "would not buy again".
Too bright and a little too acidic.
I enjoyed the darkness of this coffee, but when brewed in my Aeropress, it was slightly acidic and bitter. The aftertaste wasn't my favorite either- more of a smoky mouthfeel than I prefer.
Absolutely not a dark roast. Almost no flavor, zero acidity. Extremely disappointing.
Delicious well blended dark coffee. A stand out favorite for me for sure.
I love the dark chocolate flavor on this.
Unique but a bit too dark for my taste. The wife approves however. I prefer medium blend.
This was a little lighter bodied that I expected. I preferred the flavor when it was chilled vs hot. Best with more delicate methods of brewing.
Delicious. Dark, chocolate and caramel, not burned or Smokey. This is what I love.
Did not enjoy the “spice” of the coffee
This was good! Had a slight bitter taste but not overpowering.
More like this please.
Lacking body and unable to produce much crema with espresso - perhaps a good pour over or drip blend, but not a great espresso blend. Slightly sour and lacking depth.
Smooth, no bitterness
I liked this one a lot!
I liked it
this is the first one in a long time that we haven't liked.
Mellow, not quite as bold as I like
Overall pretty good. Wasn't quite as bold as I sometimes like, but still good coffee.
sounds so promising but was a little to "bright" for me
Good taste but but harder on the tummy!
Not dark enough for my taste. Too acidic for my taste. Please do not select this coffee for me anymore.
Very good. Smooth. Use more beans/water for best balance.
