This coffee will be fresh roasted for you. We expect Quills Coffee will roast and ship this coffee in 1-2 business days depending on their roasting schedule.
This is the Blacksmith Espresso brought to you by Quills Coffee. Blacksmith Espresso is Quills' flagship espresso blend, used in all of their cafés. The name represents their ongoing dedication to refinement, inherent to the craft of making great espresso. Currently comprised of coffees from Brazil, Peru, and Colombia, this blend is delicious as a double shot or in milk. Additionally, it will perform well as a go-to drip coffee for those that enjoy a slightly more developed roast. We taste dark chocolate, cherry and vanilla with a rich, creamy body.
I used almost the whole bag to get to a place where I was getting consistent pulls with this particular bean. So much plays into that but it was an observation worth mentioning, I try to find that perfect place where the crema is top to bottom in my glass shot glass and the pull doesn't take more than 30 seconds. It was hard to get to with this bean. The aroma that was most prevalent was Chocolate, not sweet chocolate but more like dark, dark chocolate. It was a good bean and I may come back to it but I'm going to sample more and maybe visit this one again in the future.
Amazing. This is probably my ideal morning cup.
Nice surprise. Can't remember having Quills before. I agree with their tasting notes cherry and honey -- more so than chocolate. Another consistent pull though the duration of the bag of beans. No fiddling needed. Will get this again.
Michelle likes this one. Easy for espresso, darker roast, but not too dark.
A decent flavor, good.
The blend was excellent as espresso with sugar and with milk in cappuccinos. The beans are not at all oily so they work well in my automatic espresso machine’s grinder.
One of my favorites. Very good all around espresso.
The tags describe it perfectly: chocolate and fruity. This was great both for espresso drinks with milk and brewed.
Roast tasted underdeveloped
My first attempt was 5 days after roast. This one is a little lighter than what I normally drink, so I had to grind significantly finer to get a good pressure (non-splashy shot). It's a very mild tasting coffee. Even with the machine almost choking, I was pulling shots that were on the acidic side- sometimes getting hints of cherry/ almond, never sweet. A week later I tried again- this time seemed better for pulling shots. I could make the grind a little coarser. Overall it was still too mild for my liking, and milk completely drowns the flavor. Plus when I tried to get it a little less acidic, I ended up with an acrid bitter metallic aftertaste. Not my favorite coffee =/. Maybe it'd do better if roasted a few seconds longer. For those who try this one, I suggest waiting 7-10 days off roast before trying.
Consistency is not right for espresso. Water just pours through.
Great flavor mix. Lightly roasted and relatively thin body
Very smooth & sweet, my shots were dominated by notes of cherry and chocolate.
All I can say is Quills Rocks! Loved this!
My favorite so far - I like the chocolate undertones.
Too light tasting for me when used in a latte.
Really really like this one! Smooth, full, and rich.
I enjoyed the chocolatey notes, but this coffee was too roasty for me to get any fruit or depth of flavor.
Quills knows how to roast beans. There is a smoky hint in this coffee that I love.
Not big on fruit flavors in my coffee, this was a little too bright and acidic for me, esp for an espresso.
This is the best espresso I've received so far. I absolutely LOVE it. And it's been very forgiving, too - what I mean by that: I've tried a few different grind strengths and adjusted my tamping as well, and every cup has tasted perfect to me - balanced, sweet, smooth, no hint of bitterness whatsoever. This is my kind of espresso, for sure. More like this, please!! I'd give it 6 stars if I could. I wonder if I prefer South American beans to African ones? I know my wife has that preference in her drip coffee.
Very finicky to grind. Medium body and tasty.
I found this coffee had some cherry/stone-fruit notes. I didn't get much citrus beyond the subtle acidity at play. I wasn't a big fan of the fruitiness. A single shot didn't hold up to the milk in lattes, but a double/triple tended to fare better. The coffee was smooth on its own and developed a nice crema right out of the group head.
Nice dry finish . Not too citrusy.
Great as espresso and is slightly bright/acidic shot. When prepared as a latte, the chocolate notes become evident. - Prepared on La Marzocco LM
Pretty flavorful. A little dark for my taste, but complex.
I really liked the creamier profile
I absolutely love this one. My go-to for Espresso.
Not bad, had great crema and worked well with milk. I thought it lacked depth which makes me sound like a snob maybe?
*pulled from a La Pavoni Romantica
Better then the Warehouse but still too much citrus acidity for our tastes. Prefer something smoother.
Sad to say this bag is almost gone! It was incredibly smooth with virtually no bitterness. A tart lingering aftertaste that reminds you that coffee comes from fruit and is not an actually bean! hope for more espresso close to this maybe with some more berry like notes!
Solid but not outstanding. It makes a decent espresso, but really suffers in almost any other preparation (I know, it says espresso in the name).
Good rich espresso with a nice acidity.
With a small splash of milk this is a terrific cup of coffee every time.
