The Brazil Moreninha Formosa Natural was carefully roasted for you by Parisi Artisan Coffee. Located on the eastern edge of the state of Mato Grosso, Alto Paranaiba is the highest elevation region of the Cerrado Miniero, Brazil. This coffee has a big round body, deep chocolate and hazelnut notes.
Drinkable and light. No particular flavors stood out to me.
Absolutely perfect. Rich taste without being overwhelming and a very full body which I love.
I was honestly expecting a stronger flavor based on the description and previous ratings. The chocolate flavor was quite delicate. Rather than full bodied, I experienced a slightly acidic almost tart taste. I shared the coffee with friends and they did enjoy it. While I did like the coffee, I couldn't see myself picking up these beans again. I normally drink my coffee black, but I felt like this needed milk, unfortunately.
flavor was good, but beans started turning quickly, requiring constant adjustment on grinder.
I love how full-bodied it is without being acidic. The tasting notes are super yummy. Really like this one!
I tried this using both a drip maker and a French press. I found nothing particularly distinguishable about it. The flavors seemed to blend together and to be kind of muddy. One friend said he preferred the drip to the French press version. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't particularly good, either. 2.5 stars might be a bit more accurate rating for me.
I forget what I originally wrote about this one, if anything. What I haven't forgotten is this bean's fascinating 'caramelized' (not burnt) cocoa flavor. It will be tough to top; the only bean in recent memory that comes close was a dark-roast Haitian bean by Coffee & Tea Ltd, variety unknown.
Nice balanced flavor. Really liked the nutty flavor. Not as enthusiastic about chocolate but really appreciated the low acidity.
I really liked the coffee - specifically the depth of flavor + relatively low acidity
It’s ok. There’s not really much I can say about it really. It’s unoffensive, it feels like a safe choice. The labels seem basically accurate.
Brewed on a V60. I enjoyed the full body and the nutty notes.
Very nice! Smooth tasty without bitterness. I am really enjoying. Seth did a good job selecting this introductory bean.
Like it. Good, balanced coffee with the stated chocolate and hazelnut notes.
This coffee was great. I have brewed a few cups so far via Chemex and have been very pleased with aroma and tasting notes. I noticed a lot of dark chocolate, and fudge on the palate. The nutty tasting notes were definitely prominent as I drank through my first few cups. The hazelnut and almost notes are subtle. They linger in the mouth after a few sips and really round off the coffee. I also personally noticed a little fruity flavors, more specifically stone fruit notes. I got hints of apricot and cherries on the palate which I am a big fan of. Looking forward to my next coffee.
Smelled burned; extremely bitter. Requires milk.
This coffee is delicious! But a little darker than I prefer. The tasting notes are very accurate - chocolatey, full bodied, etc. I brewed using a Hario V60. 16 grams in, 240 grams out, with a 2:10 brew time. I'll try tomorrow with my french press and see how the coffee changes flavor. Thank you!
Accurate profile description. Deep notes of chocolate and hazelnut, specifically dark chocolate. Hints of fruity and earthy notes as well. Makes for a smoothe and full bodied cup of coffee.
Nat bad, not great. A good place to start, want to branch out further. Nutty, brewed strong but still somewhat flat on the palate.
The aroma from the beans after grinding was amazing subtle chocolate notes with just a hint of hazelnut it was a great cup to enjoy black or with milk.
It was wonderful, would love it again. Can’t wait to see the future coffees
A little on the lighter side but still really good
very light and mild coffee.
Great coffee for what it is. I was pleasantly surprised by the chocolatey notes and nuttiness. Two gripes I had were the aroma and the roast. I was not very satisfied with the darker roast smell which brought out a ever-so-slightly charred smell. In addition, I felt that the roast, while labeled as medium, was definitely on the darker side. Overall, not bad, but something I'm not quite used to. Would highly recommend for dark roast lovers breaking into the third-wave coffee scene. For people who like a more balanced or fruity taste, this one is not for you.
too weak for my taste
Smooth. Full bodied. Low acidity. Pairs well with chocolate.
I liked the sweet undertones and darker (less acidic) flavor but for some reason this one tasted a little too bold. My husband thought it was "good but not great" (unfortunately he did not give me much more insight than that).
Delicious chocolate and nutty notes.
Definitely enjoyed this full bodied coffee- the roast was great. Not sensitive enough palate to taste chocolate and hazelnut though.
Used French press brewer. Was good . but not a great deal of flavor. I prefer a bolder taste. What does the roasting code Nov 20183107 translate to tell me the brew date? Why not place brew date on package.
It's just what I like. I'm not great with describing why - it's just delicious.
Originally hated this coffee. Had a change of heart after changing my brew style with it over to the French Press. Idk if these beans just need more time under water to fully extract the flavor, but it’s a noticeable difference between using the Press and my Pour Over system (Kalita Wave). Really nutty flavor up front, chocolate notes to finish. Still prefer more floral and fruity notes to my coffee, but this one was pretty good.
Nice cozy coffee. Very low acidity.
Not as full-bodied as I'd hoped for. I'm going to watch the French brew video to confirm if I'm doing it correctly.
I found it difficult to brew anything but a weak cup. I adjusted how I ground the beans and even tried using a French press, but I could never get a lot of flavor out of this coffee. It was okay, but not vey flavorful.
Well balanced and smooth.
A bit over-roasted for my liking. Overall, it is smooth with nice body but the flavor profile lands a bit flat. I tried it with a splash of milk (not my normal way of taking coffee) and it was fine. Maybe I'll try it through my Aeropress and see if it makes a good latte for my wife or use it to make a cold brew.
A bit lighter than we typically drink, but great flavor profile. We have been tending to brew it a little stronger than recommended to suit our liking. Would love to try something similar but a little bolder next time around!
Darker than I expected for a medium roast. It was a fun coffee to try but not something I would be keen on going back to.
I love the taste notes of this coffee. It's probably one of my favorite Brazilian's that I've ever had. I would enjoy buying another bag myself.
love the chocolate notes. makes a very full-bodied pour over
I found the notes rather flat. There was no real stand out flavors or finish. I actually did not find this full bodied either.
I do love the full-body on the mouth. Its a bit more nutty for my fruity desires, but I DID catch a little bit of cherry on the nose for grind and for the brew. The roast was real close to my 'sweetspot', a wee bit darker, but still very close. Its close enough to pretty enjoyable.
This is not bad. Different switching off of sweeter vanilla flavored coffee.
Not a fan, lacked flavor
Difficult to get the full taste extracted.
This coffee is very smooth - not bitter at all. It also is a little flat though - if it was a bit more complex I would give it a 5 star rating.
Beans are dry. Brew is Gevaliaesque, Lacks richness and finesse.
I made a cold brew with it. Definitely had a chocolate caramel finish to it which was nice.
Very well balanced. Savory, nice finish gentle linger.
Not crazy about nutty flavors. BUT this was awesome. Subtle enough. Not too acidic either. Great!
Fairly mild flavor
I bit on the dark side. Like most Brazilian coffees I’ve had it had an up front punch that slightly masks the notes I’m looking for. I can still pick up the notes but the big body dominates and gives a lasting bitter impression. Going forward I would stay away from Basilian coffees unless they’re on the medium to lighter side and are more complex.
I have not been receiving emails to rate my coffee like I did with my prior gift, so I forgot to rate these. Please send darker roasts in the future. I see the other has shipped already, but.... I'm not sure why the emails stopped coming.
This selection was surprisingly bold and a bit too much for me. I do have to give them credit for making such a strong coffee without any of the burnt aftertaste you usually get.
Somewhat disappointed. The bag profile looks decent, but taste didn't match. Surprisingly lacks much of a nuanced flavor (my preference) even though it's natural processed. The darker full body/chocolate flavor is overbearing and kills most flavor that my palette likes. Nutty tones were great though.
I don't remember the details, but I know I liked it.
Overall a nice coffee. Smooth, no bitterness. Decent nutty flavor. Actually left an oddly pleasant aftertaste an hour after drinking. Certainly better than the Smooth Operator I had previously, which was almost flavorless. The only thing keeping this from 5 stars is the flavor is still a little light for my taste. I prefer something a little bolder, but without the level of bitterness in something like Aponte Village (also 4 stars for me, bolder flavor but significant bitterness). I might be looking for an impossible combination of boldness and smoothness, but Formosa Natural is very pleasant.
This a good, solid easy drinking coffee. In my opinion it's not very complex or full bodied which is why I didn't give it 5 stars.
Great cup. Classic Brazilian taste and roast. Well done, Parisi! Get up in the morning, 1 cup, run 5 miles, sit on the back porch and enjoy another cup while cooling down. What's next, oh great Mistobox?? This one hit home.
Excellent coffee! Smooth taste and finish.
Very nutty. Strong flavor. Pretty good but not my favorite.
A nice smooth coffee. Great chocolate notes on the finish.
This is a really pleasant and smooth coffee. Great nutty notes with a rich flavour. Very well rounded.
nice nutty flavor. a solid cup
Jolene and Chris
My favorite of all that I've gotten so far. Low acid. Ultra smooth.
Roasty, nutty, Chocolately, peppery in the end. Flavors hit a little strong but do balance nice. Full Bodied.
40G coffee (coarse)
INTENSELY chocolatey cup of coffee-- I very much enjoyed it and look forward to making some cold brew with it.
I was hoping for something a little more adventurous but this was right down the middle and yet very good. It was comforting and familiar. I didn't notice any bitter or sour flavors. I'll always like hints of nuts and chocolate in any form or fashion!
Very nice. Good mouth feel. Not a weak brew.
Love to have it again
Its good. and really good for what it is but Im craving the lighter roast. This roast felt a little too much like regular drip coffee to me and I did not like it near as much as the first. That being said it is rich and nice, but not as enjoyable.
Really like it - it has a better after taste than when I first sip. It's something that I would get again for sure! Though I would like to test more sweetness to this I can't complain much about it!
I would rate this as medium bodied rather than full. Flavor profile was a bit flat. Perhaps a tad under roasted.
Really marvelous. Hope to find these beans again and again.
Perfect roast for me! This one hit the sweet spot. Not too dark, not too bright. I would be perfectly fine with a roast slightly darker or slightly lighter, which tells me this one was the perfect fit. I also think I'm generally a fan of coffees that have tasting notes of nuts, chocolate, nutmeg, and other similar flavors, as opposed to ones that are fruity or floral.
I really wanted to like this one because it's from a local roaster, but it was just okay. The grounds have a wonderful aroma. The nut/chocolate notes were not all that noticeable. I also wouldn't describe as full bodied. There isn't anything special about this one. It's easy to drink, no bitterness, but I would describe it as bland.
Very good chocolate notes and delicious taste! Highly recommend!
Love the nuttiness of this blend; definitely one of the most powerful traits. Nice dark blend, that doesn't taste burnt, but can stand up with any other dark roast out there.
This coffee was brilliant. My friends and I enjoyed this one a lot. It has the perfect soft flavor of chocolate and nuts for a relaxing cup, but it is also nice to wake you up in the morning. A great way to start the day.
I tend not to like coffees that are described as chocolate-y, but I'm realizing that may be because most of those coffees are very dark roasts that leave little room for other flavors. The Moreneinha Formosa avoids that misstep and is a smooth, slightly nutty coffee, a pleasure to drink.
The coffee was more bitter than the Mandalay and had a stronger flavor, but everything complemented itself nicely.
This was actually really bright and citrus like, which I don't care for. Tasted bitter.
There wasnt anything that jumped out about this bean. It didn't feel very full but the nutty and chocolate did come across which I enjoyed.
I'm less excited about this one. Admittedly, the flavor profile is something that I often look for in coffee-- nutty, chocolatey, lower acidity-- but this is a bit monotone. There's a good amount of chocolate, and hints of some nuttiness, but that's about it. Also, it comes across as more of a dark roast in flavor, so it's more bold and dark than I'm looking for. This coffee is fine, but I'm looking for something with more depth and complexity.
I like the more traditional taste of this blend!
Average coffee. Not very flavorful.
Good stuff. Nice 'n cozy. Liked it better with French Press. I liked this one a little less than the Rise & Shine Organic tho they are quite different. That said, I would be interested in trying more like this one.
This was the best one so far!!!! I can't really describe why because I am terrible at this tasting thing. But this was definitely the best out of all 3 I have received.
Really liked this one. The smell before brewing was amazing. A good strong cup of coffee, smooth and delicious.
This was a smooth and balanced coffee. But I felt like the flavors were simpler than I like.
Not bad. Has some great smells and mild flavor. We liked the prior shipment much more but this is still good.
Makes a nice robust cup but I kept getting some undesirable aftertaste on this one, pretty sensitive as far as extraction goes
Very solid. Liked it.
Very smooth, full-bodied coffee. The aroma reminds me of peanut butter chocolate. Very present chocolate and nutty flavors. Chemex brewing produces the most full flavor.
Pretty good. I preferred it as a cold brew. I really liked the chocolatey and nutty flavors. This has been my second favorite Mistobox coffee so far (after the La Colombe dark roast, which seemed both darker and sweeter).
Wasn't too fond with this cup. Didn't like he bell pepper notes, had a bland taste.
Really enjoyed this coffee!
Good medium roast. Standard stuff, I feel.
Very nice - rich, not at all acidic or bitter
A solid 4, extremely drinkable cup. Flavors aren't flashy, but the whole rounds out well in a subtle, enjoyable manner.
I have to say both the roaster's and curator's descriptions of this coffee's flavor are pretty spot on. It's consistently good and very easy to drink. I would recommend these beans and they smell great too out of the bag.
So soo good!
I think I may have bumped up this coffee one star simply because how amazing it smells. (Very sweet and chocolatey). I also really enjoyed its body and taste, but would have have liked it to have a tiny bit less acidity,
Great coffee. One of the best. My preference is a slightly stronger roast but this excels as a medium roast. Very smooth. Love the hint of chocolate and nuts. Winner.
The nose is great with cocoa and nuts (more like peanut than a bolder nut) Made this coffee in my french press so mileage may vary versus a true flavor taste with the toddy. Didn't overly excite my taste buds, as another reviewer stated a bit boring but drinkable.
The taste was almost too rounded. Halfway through the cup it was boring and it didn't captivate me anymore. I use the chemex as my go to and it typically pulls great flavor. It was still a good cup of coffee just not my favorite.
Overall I liked the coffee! It just wasn't necessarily the best. My all time favorite coffee is Intelleigentsia's dark roast. I hope that helps!
My mom, who likes darker roasts, really liked this coffee. I thought it was okay.
This is a fantastic roast, I was a bit hesitant at first as I'm not a big fan of chocolate notes in my coffee, but it's very well balanced when the other flavors!
This coffee is fantastic. If you like coffee with a nutty flavor and full body, then this is a must try.
Full of flavor. Pleasant and smooth.
Brewed with Kalita Wave: very complex, almost strange. Fruity, earthy. Almost too much. As an iced Kalita Wave, absolutely fantastic. Really mellows out, brings out brightness, and the flavor stands up well to being iced.
Full bodied and chocolate-y, but a bit one-dimensional. The dry and bitter cocoa finish is nice.
Reasonably decent cup using french press and Bonavita drip. When I hit it right I got some nice fruity undertones and some unexpected peanut butteriness. A finicky coffee though; it was very easy to slide from bland to over-extracted. Low acidity if you're in to that. I tend to prefer brighter flavors with higher acidity.
Surprised and disappointed that this was a top-level coffee and my first introduction to MistoBox selection. Fair upfront taste but lacking depth and no secondary flavors (except slightly bitter aftertaste). Here's my review (37 out of 50 points):Aroma: 8Acidity: 7Body: 8Flavor: 7Aftertaste: 7
Not super memorable and wasn't too deep in flavor. Enjoyed it a lot but wasn't something that I had a punch to it.
Great coffee with strong notes of hazelnut and a bit of plum. Very chocolately aroma when brewed using different pour over methods, but not much using full immersion, though the tasting notes held up. I enjoyed it most when brewed in a Chemex.
This a very classic, true, full bodied coffee. Definitely a hot cocoa aroma, with a very nutty flavor. For my palette, however, It wasn't my favorite coffee I've ever tasted. Like I said, it was very classic, and in saying that I don't feel like there was anything super original about the roast. I really prefer a fruity, floral coffee or anything that has a unique flavor profile. I do think the coffee was fresh, and the roast looked very even.
I really loved this coffee! I could definitely taste the notes of cocoa. It was also just really smooth and complimented by everything.
Great cup of coffee with very little acidity.Appreciate the full body and not too sweet taste.
I liked the hint of sweetness of this coffee with low acidity. I felt that it was full bodied without being overwhelming. This coffee is so smooth and I loved the aroma as soon as I opened the bag, very complex! I am not sure how much more of the 'notes of nuts' I would want to venture into as I also feel like this gives it a slight dry taste.
Brewed using Kalita Wave. Fairly new to brewing with pour over, before that I was using French Press. The roast was just a bit dark/bitter for my liking, but still got some very nice flavors out of it. Nose has lots of chocolate with some nutty and honey notes. Chocolate comes through in flavor accompanied by plums and hazelnuts.. Mouth feel was probably my favorite part of the coffee. Best i have gotten out of my newish Kalita this far.. Just enough viscosity without being syrupy or oily. Overall I think this is a good coffee for crowds. Non enthusiasts will enjoy the roast and approachability while nerds can still find it interesting. Hoping my next shipment is a little less bitters so I can enjoy more of the fruitiness of a naturally processed single origin.
Coffee was bland and not as described
Great flavor and taste! Roast was a little lighter than I usually prefer.
Enjoyable but not that special.
Absolutely loved this coffee. Deep, rich roasted beans. Was wonderful in the morning. Savored it. Anything leftover goes in a jar in the refrig for "iced coffee" next day! Can't wait a drop.
This was great, hazelnut and chocolate hints were not overpowering. Prepared in Espro french press, and Mochamaster dip machine.
Good! Not great. An average Brazil; an enjoyably full, creamy body that at times is reminiscent of a Snickers bar, otherwise presents a predictably basic flavor profile that fails to stand out as anything beyond average. Brewed via Kalita, V60, and Chemex. Planning and anticipating a deliciously solid cold brew to be made out of the rest.
Very good cup of coffee. Perfectly balanced
nice smooth cup of coffee - appreciate that not acidic even after cooling. would prefer slightly bolder flavor, as didn't find it to have that extra-special edge.
I liked the subtle nutty flavors--and it had a kick that woke me up! loved it.
High ratio water with this one, was strong with the standard.
I love natural process coffees, because I like that fruit-forward, juicy cherry\blueberry sweetness. This coffee really had an awesome, dark stonefruit thing going on balanced with a ton of chocolaty sweetness. This coffee is a nice break from the highly acidic heirlooms I have been trying recently, and I wish I had an espresso machine because I imagine this coffee would pull some nice shots. I'm giving it a 3 because my husband thinks it's boring, and I agree that the roast profile is a little too dark to have much complexity or terroir. That being said, this coffee was a smart place to start, I see what you did there.
Had pretty good taste later in the week when we tweaked the water ratio.
Good, full-bodied, sweet coffee. Very easy to drink but not very interesting. Fruit notes were barely detectable underneath the syrupy cocoa and cashew.
This was good. I liked the full bodiedness of it though I felt like that made it a little unremarkable.
We made this as a pour-over coffee as well as in the mokapot. As a pour over, we got a lot of nuttiness but not much full-bodied flavor. Overall, the coffee was easy drinking and well-balanced - not too acidic or bitter - and finished pretty clean. Would like to try it with a coarser grind to compare. In the mokapot, the chocolate notes are prominent, especially on the finish, which tasted of straight cocoa. The coffee was more full-bodied in the mokapot. Overall, this is a straight-forward, pretty traditional coffee. Not bad but not my favorite.
Decent first go. Could be a little more robust, with the coming cold weather.
I liked this coffee but found it a little Bitter. I'm not a coffee drinker who takes it black only. I'm not sure what words to describe the taste to me. I always compare things to Costa Rican peaberry or Venezuelan coffee and I don't know if it's how they roast it, the beans themselves, or a combination of things but that flavor is what I look for. If I don't have that then I ask myself how is it then? I came to the conclusion that I liked it but found that I needed a lot of sugar to make it palatable for me. I liked it how it went with a morning pastry. But it would have been better if it was sweeter. Kind of like dark chocolate, but I prefer chocolate with more milk and sugar. I hope that helps describe my sensation.
1st cup - Overall good coffee, but I was on the run this morning and couldn't really enjoy it as I usually do. Can't wait to try it again.
Not as flavorful as I would have expected. We used our typical ratio preparing it and it felt weak / watery. Never really tried dialing it up to adjust accordingly as it usually works across various roasts / bean types.
Flavors were good, but were a little on the weak side. The chocolate was one of the stronger flavors.
I can taste the hint of chocolate in this cup, rather balanced. It is a fantastic cup for morning coffee.
Did not get the "full bodied" cup feeling. Though smooth, and excellent nose, the taste was quite flat; almost to the point of being bland.
Nutty flavor, medium bodied, perhaps I should have brewed it a little stronger. A little too bitter for me.
Roasted almonds and milk chocolate. Requires a bit more coffee in the grinder to make the robust flavor, but once you figure that out--this is a true pleasure.
Notes were spot on. Good overall, but not anything special.
Jordan & Aaron
Light and flavorful! It's a very refreshing roast for morning coffee.
This is the best coffee I've ever had. It even tastes good when its lukewarm, which is a sign of a really good beverage.
Tasty, not bitter
The acidity on this is great! Right on. The macadamia nut note is great and very subtle. A little more fruit would make this a perfect coffee in my opinion!
3.5. Very solid.
The coffee is a little bitter, and clogged my pour-over unit with each cup. I wonder if the chocolate had something to do with my pour over brewing issues. The flavor is okay, but I would not order it again.
Medium-bodied, smooth finish with little-to-no lingering aftertaste. Very nice to drink, but nothing stood out to me in particular, either.
Very good. Perfect for us.
i loved this! Very smooth and no after taste!!!
Didn't agree that this coffee was full bodied. Although I discerned notes of nuts and chocolate, they were not memorable.
loved this coffee! well balanced and light
This is, of course, based on MY taste buds. Others' opinions may vary. Yes, there's chocolate but it's the bitter baker's variety which isn't my favorite in a cup and it lingers on the palate. I would not buy this again... FOR ME. Your taste buds may be more forgiving or refined than mine.
A subtle sweetness, that is incredibly enjoyable, certainly helped me out during my finals last week.
nice body. Full, but not too heavy. really enjoyed the smooth chocolatey finish. Great when brewed with Chemex
I really enjoyed this. It had a lot of really great flavor.
I enjoy this cup, but i have trouble grinding this on a blade grinder. Its great flavor for a medium roast. But it is a dry bean that turns to a powder easily. That makes it rough to use for pour over method.
I starred this with a 4 since I don't know what is yet to come, but I absolutely love this coffee. It is subtle and smooth but with a great flavor palate. As of late I seem to prefer the lighter roasts so I can really experience the depth of flavors. Good work on this one, thank you!
I've been enjoying this flavorful coffee immensely. It's smooth, rich, chocolatey, and creamy - very pleasant to drink early in the morning.
Deliciously smooth cup! Good chocolate notes.
Very clear, rich like a milk chocolate, with creamy and nutty taste. Also some notes of roasted wheat grain. Definitely full body.
Was not a fan of this blend. Too dark. But my turkish coffee loving brother-in-law found it perfect. Made a great gift, but too dark and bitter for my taste.
