This is the Burundi Kiryama brought to you by Square One Coffee. Grown by the Kiryama Washing Station Coop in the Kayanza region at 1,780 - 1,850 meters, this fully washed coffee is a perfect example of why we love coffees from Burundi. We love this coffee for its nuanced notes of fruits, like mango and peaches, with hints of baking spices and complex overall quality.
Was ok in French press, however much improved when used in regular drip coffee. Slight unpleasant after taste when drank from French press.
Using a Chemex, I found it to be sharp with a lime bite, and a merlot body, with a hint of raspberry-lime aftertaste. It was complex, and unlike your typical coffee. This coffee is not for "coffee novices" because it might deter rather than inspire. I loved that this coffee was very different, it screamed to be different. When brewed with a french press, it was less citrus and more toward coco and light hints of citrus and raspberry. Congrats to Square One on finding this one!
This was a really nice coffee! Definitely enjoyed this one! Great rich flavor profile!
I LOVE BURUNDI. It always tastes like liquid caramel and is so smooth. This cup was no exception. Brewed in a V-60 (opposed to my siphon) was an excellent choice. Caramel and walnuts almost like a turtle.
At first when I smelled the beans I detected a very subtle fruitiness; following after the grind it was even more pronounced. The initial flavor is that of rich clove followed shortly by a sweet aftertaste hinting at almost a fruit blend. I definitely enjoyed this as a french pressed beverage.
It was good coffee, just not my style. It's hard to say what about it I didn't like but over all it was still good.
