This coffee will be fresh roasted for you. We expect Portola Coffee Roasters will roast and ship this coffee in 1-2 business days depending on their roasting schedule.
The Ethiopia Guji was carefully roasted for you by Portola Coffee Roasters. This coffee was grown in the Guji, Sidama region of Ethiopia. Through persistent dedication to coffee quality, various small holder producers produced a spectacular crop of coffee. Grown at an altitude of 1,900 - 2,000 meters, this is a great example of how stellar fully washed coffees can be. The lots consisted of Ethiopian heirloom varieties. This coffee is delicate and jasmine tea-like with high notes of clementine and spiced notes of gingerbread.
I received my second shipment and both have been perfect! These guys know how to choose a coffee
My first brew of this was a little off. I tried it again today and it was incredible. A lot of the caramelization in the nose, super floral as it hits the tongue and as the cup continues to cool. Get good citric acid as well but also some sweeter raspberry on the finish. Really nice cup
Love this coffee! Great for the Fall! One of my new favorite roasters.
Very sweet and bright with lots of fruit notes.
An excellent Ethiopian. I especially enjoyed it as an espresso.
So far the best coffee received from Mistobox. This coffee is good from first sip to last and has a nice acidity to start and a great sweetness when it cools down. Fantastically complex.
I think this is my favorite washed Ethiopian coffee I've had this year.
Flavorful but also on the bitter side... less fruity than other coffees
Another great one from Portola. Portola always seems to have the cleanest roasts and choice in beans that bring out softer more nuanced flavors like teas, and spice. Being an African I expected more of a berry or citrus flavor, but it really did lean towards a bit of spice and caramel as well. Totally balanced.
Continually impressed with beans from Portola. These ones are no different! Floral and delicate, delicious flavors. Would love to visit them in person.
Unfortunately, I was a bit underwhelmed by this coffee. There was nothing in the taste or aroma that really grabbed me. They are correct with the "jasmine tea" like profile. Unfortunately, this, in my opinion, was to a fault. It tasted too much like tea for my liking. I really didn't get the spice or clementine notes. I tried with a V60 and a Kalita Wave at various ratios and still didn't didn't find it too appealing. I'm rather disappointed because I've had other Guji coffees and really enjoyed them. This was not a horrible coffee, but as I mentioned, it tasted more like tea than coffee, to point that I think if someone did a blind taste test, they mistake it as such because the coffee-like flavors are so muted.
This was the best coffee I had ever tasted
A great coffee, and yet a little disappointing. I suppose Portola has a lot of hype, so I had very high hopes. I really did enjoy the coffee, I just found the tasting notes too subtle for my palate.
VERY GOOD. I have never even heard of a coffee having Jasmine Tea flavour notes so when I brewed my first cup of this and got a deliciously balanced hit of it with the clementine, I was very impressed. Fantastic cup of coffee.
OBSESSED WITH THIS BEAN. It was such a treat to get an Ethiopian from Portola. This was the best one I received during my subscription.
Great cup of coffee. Smooth flavor.
Well balanced solid coffee.
Overall very aromatic but not as flavorful as I'd expect from something with "Special Prep" in it's name.Favorite prep was with an AeroPress. When filtered tasted very tea-like.I've always regarded Portola as one of best coffee shops having spent too much money at their Theorem bar and I think my insane high expectations for this bag prevented me from truly enjoying it because while it was pretty damn good but it didn't blow my mind.
Couldnt get this one right. Too much acidity, not enough body for me. Couldn't get a balanced taste. Not my favorite.
I absolutely loved this coffee. Comforting soft orange citrus notes, delicate tea like clarity with a gentle sweetness that coats the palate. There is a reason Portola Coffee Lab won 2015 Roaster of the Year! Go team Portola!
Loved it :-)
LOVE this coffee. i can taste the notes of citrus and some spices....it adds a great depth to each sip!
Nothing great about this coffee. Subtle flavor of citrus. Not my favorite.
Similar to the Guji from Augie's, but with a less pronounced tea flavor.
Huge fan of this one. Nice and bright flavors, went through the whole bag in a week and a half.
I enjoyed my first experience with Portola. I mainly Brewer this through a V60 and as SO espresso. Citrusy, bright, mildly floral.
Really enjoyed this bag of coffee. It was very tea like and the notes were great and just like it was described.
Good, I enjoyed it for sure. Fresh roast
I brewed this one in the Chemex with a paper filter. I am recovering from a cold so nasal congestion could be affecting my sense of taste and smell. I think the aroma is woodsy floral. The taste was mellow and soft with none of the bitterness I tasted in the El Salvador. Instead of clementine I tasted guava. This was an enjoyable coffee. Perhaps one to keep for lazy Sunday mornings while reading on the iPad.
Fruity and juicy and all kinds of wonderful explosions of flavor. Fantastic light-roasted coffee. Well done Portola, well done.
This coffee is wonderful. Like a warm gingerbread cookie! It has a lovely balanced acidity with the perfect amount of bite. This coffee is what a Kenya AA wishes it could be. Poised, disciplined, and balanced.
I feel like nothing pops out of this coffee for me. It's sort of lost in between bitter, smooth and fruity, and balanced is not the word for it.
I am normally a fan of washed Ethiopian coffees, however, this one dos not stand out to me.
This makes an excellent cup of coffee with a great flavor.
Woot! Woot! This is hands down the best cup of coffee I have brewed in a while. It had been quite some time since I'd tried Portola's work, so I was excited when it arrived. I appreciated the delicacy of every cup while sipping to decipher the various notes. I am grateful for what's in my cup!
Really great coffee. Sweet citrus, complex. Hot to cool solid cup. Would buy again.
Not fruity enough for me. Was too subtle.
I really enjoyed this mellow, tea like coffee. I found lower temps and a higher water to coffee ratio really helped bring out the nuances vs the acid. Allowing the cup to cool really highlighted the flavors.
Very limey as espresso, but pour over really brings out some caramel and raspberry cream.
This is a great coffee. Portola is down the street from me so I have had their coffees quite often. By far one of my favorites from Southern California. I tend to enjoy coffees with citrus notes but I am open to some adventure.
Plum and raisin goodness.
Much better than Bag 1. Very light-bodied, and the clementine, especially, really sticks out. Finishes a bit bitter, but enjoying this overall.
