This coffee will be fresh roasted for you. We expect Thou Mayest Coffee Roasters will roast and ship this coffee in 1-2 business days depending on their roasting schedule.
The Smooth Operator was carefully roasted for you by Thou Mayest Coffee Roasters. This pulped natural coffee was grown by the Cocarive Cooperative in the Carmo de Minas region of Brazil at 1,200 meters above sea level. Smooth Operator is perfect for someone looking for something mellow and easy to drink in the morning with comforting notes of caramel and subtle spices.
It's okay, I'm not really digging this one. I have a feeling it is because of the processing mixed with the tasting notes. I usually like naturally processed coffees but with fruity/acidic notes, not sweet/caramel flavors. It has a kind of funky flavor that is okay.
Loved it! Great for pour over
Bad was torn when ordered. Replacement was sent but I'm hoping it doesn't count towards the number of coffees in my subscription. After having a bag that wasn't compromised, I think 2 stars is more appropriate. Some pleasant chocolate sweetness but mostly notes of stale bread.
This was a favorite. Hard to explain why.
Pretty light, could be a bit darker
Such a smooth and pleasant coffee. LOVE LOVE LOVE.
Editing my review, as I really like this coffee now that I've made a small change to the brewing process. Initially I thought this coffee was too mellow and a little bland. I tried brewing with a 1:15 coffee to water ratio instead of my usual, and it improved things greatly.
Did not not enjoy but wasn't my favorite. Notes came through as very nutty and would have preferred a full body flavor.
Underwhelming. The beans did not seem fresh and the flavor was sort of one-note. The coffee came out syrupy.
For some reason i really wasn't digging this coffee. Not sure why but the coffee had some notes that were unappealing. Didn't finish the bag.
Boring, unremarkable, and generally not a fan
A bitter taste to me
I'd drink a lot of this, but it also was less assertive than I usually like.
My least favorite so far. Had more spicy and soil notes. I think I'm learning I like more floral and citrus notes.
Not a bad black coffee. Lacks any really strong flavors that can cut through milk though, so I would drink half cups to increase its esspresso:milk ratio and would then be pretty smooth.
By far our least favorite so far. We tried many different ways to brew it and the best we got out of it was just an okay cup of coffee.
Wasted so much of this trying to get the grind size right. Huge size and still 11 on the pressure gauge and pouring too slow, if at all. Huge waste.
This was a very good coffee that had a high degree of flexibility for brewing methods. Rich flavor with strong nutty notes.
Enjoyed the notes of caramel. Great daily drip coffee.
Forgot to rate but if memory serves me correct this was my fave of the bunch.
Good but not terribly interesting
Smooth, rich, delicious!
Ivan and Beth loved this one.
We enjoyed this coffee. It was exactly like the description, smooth with comforting notes.
Favorite one so far! Perfectly balanced and excellent flavor.
Loved this coffee/roaster! Best one I've gotten... my favorite by far.
Not my favorite
A good, solid cup of coffee. Chocolate and caramel were present. Just nothing really there standing out to take it to the next level.
In a word: underwhelming. I used the pour-over method to brew and found it smooth, easy to drink, with a hint of caramel. I drank it black, because I felt it didn't have enough character to stand up to added cream and sugar. I was surprised to find it tasted rather weak. I'm not sure if that is because of the medium-light roast, or if that is just the character of the coffee. I'd like to try another medium-light roast to compare.
Unreal. Made it into a cold brew. Highly recommended
Tasty. I like very much. Very rich and complex. Does that sound pretentious? Ah, whatever. Thanks!
Maybe the best so far. Smells amazing and great tasting cup of coffee. The roasters did an excellent job
Really didnt care for this bag. Found everything a bit muddled and one note.
Really bland/watery coffee no matter how we brewed it.
It was alright, a bit too rich for me since i like the balance and bright flavors.
We found these beans to be similar to Klatch Coffee's Colombia Supremo, but we enjoyed the taste and overall profile better. It seemed to be a bit more well-rounded.
One of the better coffees I've gotten from my subscription. Smooth and good flavor.
Good not amazing. Smooth but not a lot of uniqueness or punch.
This coffee was smooth and good but not as good as the first coffee. Lacked flavor and robustness.
Really nice flavor, still strong even after adding creamer
Love the tasting notes, the chocolate really comes through when brewed with my french press. I would love to try something a little lighter, maybe with some lighter tasting notes.
Smooth, balanced. Slight notes of roasted peanut detected. Low acid. Overall, very good coffee.
I really liked this one! Definitely smooth as the name entails. I've tried brewing it as espresso and in my french press. Definitely like it better as espresso but I'm going to keep toying with the brewing strengths to see how they compare. By the way, I would love some brewing instructions with each of these selections! Is that possible?
A good smooth roast. The baking spices are wonderful.
Love it! Grinds easily and not too strong when making for just one cup
The favorite of the darker notes thus far. Really easy to drink and brew to extract the flavors. Seemed to be on the lighter side of dark which gave it a nice mix of the stronger acidic notes but not overwhelming the earth flavors.
So far I've only had this in a chemex, I really enjoyed it!
I really like this one, I think it's one of my favorites that I have tried. It's light and mellow with slightly caramely aftertaste and not acidic or sour. this is the second thou mayest coffee I received and I really enjoyed both.
Smooth, a little bland
I've only had one cup, but I'd say this is my new favorite. Balanced and full-bodied...
*Edit* 3 days in using an "Air-tight" coffee container and all the flavor has gone out of it. Tastes like someone mixed green beans in with this, I can hardly drink it.
The notes don't really come through. I got more walnut than anything else, but brewing at my normal preferred strength mostly tasted watered down.
Great in the morning. Lighter than the other selections
Really enjoyed this.
I thought this coffee was a bit acrid. Didn't really taste the qualities described.
Smooth and mild but not lacking in flavor. Easy way to wake up in the morning.
A little too light for me
Excellent Coffee. Really like it.
I had a previous coffee by Thou Mayest and LOVED it (see my collection) but, this one was simply "ok" - mild, calm, smooth but no real notes that stood out. Good with breakfast but not a stand alone enjoyment.
super meh. doesn't seem like it's worth the price
I never got this!
Extremely light-bodied, almost flavorless. Some hint of chocolate or caramel, and nice mouth feel, but ultimately too indispensable indistinct for my taste.
Very traditional, unsweet.
This one is very good too. Not quite as good as the last coffee but still a very nice cup!
A little to earthy for me
Bethany & Ethan
REALLY good. Smooth with practically no acidic taste, which is exactly how I like it.
This coffee is what I tend to expect from Brazilian coffees, though some of the prior coffees have changed my perceptions. This coffee was smooth, but too mellow for my taste. It leaned toward rich chocolate flavors, and lacked the more bright citrus acidity that I seek in a complex cup. I tried it in a chemex, aeropress, and espresso maker, but still found the flavor to fall a little flat regardless of the temperature and brewing approach.
I like the taste but is not that complex. It is on the light side, a bit on the week side.
Too little flavor
I liked this one a bit better than the seahouse, more balanced and easier drinking.
Amazing flavor! Smooth finish.
it has a smooth and almost a nutty taste. Kind of Light. I probably prefer something darker.
Not my favorite. Coffee has a bit of an aftertaste.
never received this one
Extremely drinkable. Doesn't convey big flavor and lands sort of flat, but good fullness and certainly a gentle, enjoyable taste
Extremely drinkable. Doesn't convey big flavor and lands sort of flat, but good fullness and certainly a gentle, enjoyable taste
I've finally gotten to this bag of coffee (the most recent shipped to my house!). It's actually really eye opening that I can taste some subtle differences with the additional notes of caramel. I've tasted so many different coffees with chocolate and brown sugar flavors, that I can definitely appreciate dark roasted coffee now. I think for my next few shipments of Mistobox, I'd really like to experience some light roasts too! It would be great to also develop a strong palate for fruity and floral flavors.
Honestly, when I showed this to some friends, I think the may have mixed the packaging, so I don't know which coffee was which in this shipment.
As a literature nerd, I love, love, love the name of this coffee roaster. This blend, however, was way too mellow for me. I like something quite a bit stronger and richer.
Too mild for our tastes. Lacking body/flavor.
It's good. Not terribly complex - Caramel and a little tartness. Brewed immersion and Chemex. The Chemex version is very mellow, better as immersion.
I enjoyed how smooth this cup was. Easy drinking with plenty of character. Great as a pour over and as a cold flash. Thanks Mistobox!
The coffee tasted smooth, but I feel like it lacked much complexity in flavour. I guess it kind of reminded me of a higher quality/less burnt version of diner coffee. I'd like to try something with more acidic character, and deeper flavour. I do taste the comforting caramel described!
My daughter gave me a gift subscription and specified "espresso." None of the coffees delivered are espresso beans.
Her name and my address are misspelled.
I see no contact information on the MistoBox web site to communicate this and request that it be corrected.
Meh. Not my cup of coffee, too mellow.
Good but not on my list of favorites
Was excited for this coffee at first.
But, no matter how I brewed it there was an overpowering flavor I couldn’t get rid off. It was one of the worst coffees I’ve had in a long time.
Good coffee, but it didn't have much character. Straightforward but unfortunately unmemorable.
Nothing exciting about this coffee.
A bit too mellow foe me. It seemed to lack richness.
Too mellow for me. I would like something with a little more body.
Not my favorite. It wasn't bad, just didn't wow me.
I really liked the rich cocoa flavor of this one.
I liked nothing about this ciffee.
Very forgiving for new 3rd wave enthusiasts but now that I know what I'm doing I want something with more complexity.
excellent when made in coldbrew
I absolutely loved this coffee, missing it since I finished my bag
smooth and flavorful
Not quite up to what I've been sipping from other roasters.
Smooth pleasant taste overall. I'd like to try a coffee with a slightly bolder taste next though. This coffee was similar to the first one I was shipped although this one doesn't have the slight taste of sour I detect from the first one. I like the Smooth Operator better than the first one but think I'd like a coffee with a slightly bolder taste even better.
I think it was too smooth for me actually. Flavor is good, but I suppose I'm not really into coffees this smooth.
I thought it was very smooth, not acidic at all.
It was smooth with no harsh aftertaste. Nice aroma not tainted by added oils.
Loved this one
Rich and smooth coffee that has been a hit with all my family and friends who have tried it.
I prefer a richer coffee
Not strong enough.
Little rich for my taste
Very pleasant, love the 'smoothness'.
Overall a good coffee. Great body.
Not a fan. Tasted bland and weak.
bitter taste. Undrinkable. Dumped it out.
Its certainly true to its name. Very smooth. But..at the expense of being flat and almost flavorless. I thought maybe my grind was too coarse or I didn't use enough, but both were the usual and after reading reviews, I just think its too weak for my taste.
So this was really smooth. At first I thought it to be too smooth in contrast to the Topeca coffee which has a bright flavor to it. Not sure if I got the flavor profile correct but I was able to sense/taste raspberry notes or like a chocolate raspberry godiva.
Jimmy Board and
Good blend, and the description is spot-on. Very rich flavor.
I really like this coffee. Very smooth and flavorful. Not to bitter.just right
coffee is good, but not my favorite
Really liked this one!
This coffee was good, though one shade dark for what I'd consider a medium roast (what I'm subscribed to). The flavors were good, but still, I appreciate darker coffees like this much less.
the description says it all. One of the "smoothes" cups of coffee I have ever enjoyed.
Not great. Some decent, nutty, caramel flavors in there just not a whole lot of substance. Seem to have to use a bunch of beans to get anything there.
I have waited to review this - keep thinking if I try it one more time I may like it better. It is hard to describe what I don't like about this, but I guess one thing I would like better is a "rounder" taste. This is not bitter but contrary to its name I do not consider it smooth either.
Zac and Trish
Just as the package describes!
Good flavor but a little light for my preferences.
This coffee is ok. Maybe a little too mellow. It is smooth but seemed flat to me. I think this is the 2nd coffee from Brazil I've had. Not really one of my favorites.
Only giving this a 3 star rating based on my preference. It makes a delicious espresso, but the taste/flavor is on the mild side for me. I get hint of chocolate when I first taste and then caramel, but over all the roast doesn't have the depth of flavor that I enjoy. Even when cutting back on the milk added from 8oz to slightly less it is still on the mild side for me.
I really liked the flavors of this coffee but I found it really didn't brew a strong cup even with a lot more grounds than what I normally use. I chalked it up to a nice, easy to drink coffee, but in summer where I like to have the option to brew over ice or add creamer it is altogether too weak.
A little too "earthy" - even thought I thought I'd favor a more chocolatey roast, in comparison, I enjoyed the lighter citrus notes of my first coffee much more than this one.
A lesser version of the Kenya Windrush AB IMO
Very light bodied - my first thought was it would be a great after dinner coffee... not enough umph to get me going in the morning though. Flavored were mild, and slightly acidic. I prefer a fuller coffee. Costa Rican, Nicaraguan, Argentinian...
Mellow is a good descriptor. The flavor profile is a little flat, but it doesn't go so far as to be boring. Very easy to drink.
Dennis & Margaret
need espresso blend for cappuccino machine
Very smooth. Extremely light hints of caramel. Have to use more coffee for normal strength
I loved this coffee--great bold taste, yet plenty of complexity. Great as a morning coffee, or in the afternoon. I, unfortunately, had to share it with my wife =/
good but a bit too acidic for my taste
Mild taste, not very rich
Great roast! Love the caramel notes and mellow aftertaste.
Good coffee!! I generally brewed it in my Bonavita BV1900TS (automatic) and it produces a chocolatey cup. I admit, it is a little mellow but I still like it!!
Smooth operator is exactly what this is. Really good cup of coffee for those who don't like cream and sugar added. I made this with french press and a chemex and both turned an amazing cup of coffee.
Not my favorite. Weak flavor. Watery flavor. Light color. Burnt taste. Would not drink again.
The flavor is nice but it's a little acidic. I think I like a little stronger flavor.
We LOVED this coffee and how smooth it was.
Earthy and unrefined.
It was too mellow for me. I like strong coffee.
I enjoyed this coffee--very mellow and comforting. When it arrived the bag was unsealed--is that the way it's supposed to be?
Really pleasant, balanced cup. I like more complexity, but this was a nice change of pace.
Over-roasted, thin, and lacking a lot of the nutty, caramel, chocolate flavors that a good Brazilian roasts has.
Mucky and muddy
Delicious! Bold, yet very drinkable.
Very true to the description. It is quite mellow and easy to drink. I also like the subtle notes of caramel/cocoa.
Not my favorite. "Smooth drinking" in this case translates into kinda bland tasting -- maybe just too subtle for my palate, but it's not really the style I prefer.
Well at least it was mentioned on the pack itself that it's going to be a mellow taste coffee. Which is actually not bad but not my cup of tea(coffee). Good for beginners as it doesn't have any bitterness.
Very nice blend with comfortable coffee flavors. Did nicely in my lever espresso machine. Jess enjoyed it as well. So did a raccoon, oddly enough. We got home late after the critter dragged it from the back door where our postman rightly left it. The box and bag were breached. We saved what we thought could not have been handled. Lesson learned.
Not a lot of aroma and pretty bland taste in the cup.
It's a bit bland.
Tasted flat and stale, not our favorite.
Very smooth and mellow. Flavorful without being strong. Much better than our last two. The roast is a perfect medium, which is getting difficult to find at chain stores.
great roast! However I would love some instructions on how to brew each bean specifically from the roaster. I know that each bean is different and i would really apprecaite that!
I've made two Chemexes worth of this now and just can't call myself a fan. This brew is pretty weak -- so much so that it's hard to begin to note the more subtle notes of its flavor.
This is been my favorite so far! LOVED this one. Really subtle and smooth. Send more like this!
it was too light and bland
Rich, balanced, coffee up front, sweetness in the end. No bitterness.
40G Coarse Ground
Biscuity smell, somewhat sour when black. Sweet caramel taste when drunk with milk; pleasant but a little bit bland.
Mild and well balanced. Toasty - notes of crust bread and walnuts, and a little sweet - I got pear and raisins. Would have given 3.5 stars if I could
This coffee seemed a bit bland at first, but after upping the grounds to water ratio, it's much better. There's a nice nutty note to it and a subtle bitterness.
Very nice coffee. Just as described. Very mellow. Has a darkish taste, but not overwhelming. I like this very much. Definite repete.
A little bland. Not an exciting well rounded bean.
has a good flavor.
Good, still light on flavor
A little darker with more chocolate and tobacco than my usual taste, but with a lot of complex finish
Very good coffee but not quite as light and bright as I like.
Rich and delicious!
Drinkable and smooth but too mellow for me -- looking for something a bit bolder!
This is an excellent richly flavored coffee. It has just the right amount of tannins balanced with its chocolate notes.
Between medium and light.. great choice!
Very mellow not much cream needed but is was just OK
Easy drinker. Enjoyable.
A smooth cup of coffee with definite chocolate notes, but not a lot of complexity. The low acidity of this blend makes it a less lively cup of coffee.
Wow! We thought the first coffee received was smooth and multi-talented. These beans live up to their name and make the perfect latte or french press!
I really liked this. Lately I've been drinking a few Ethiopian coffees and they were amazing. I'd love to try a few of them if available.
The best coffee ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love the heavy boldness combined with the smooth taste. You get the bold flavor but without the burnt acidic aftertaste.
Wonderful chocolate and nutty aroma, surprisingly rich and complex for such a light roast.
really light easy to drink blend. May be a little too light but still a delicious cup
I'm not really sure what is wrong with this coffee, but it's almost undrinkable. It tastes old and stale.
Smooth, great for breakfast but not bold enough for after dinner.
