This is the Ethiopia Fero Sidama Fair Trade Organic brought to you by Dillanos Coffee Roasters. Grown by the Fero Growers Union in the Sidama region at 1,800 meters, this full natural coffee is a perfect example of why we love coffees from Ethiopia. The cup is a juicy fruit bomb with notes of blackberry and blueberry.
Fruit flavors overpowered by burned taste. Too bad.
Loved this coffee for something different. Wonderful fruit flavors truly like blueberry and blackberry as described. Makes a great espresso. I typically prefer the full bodied rich chocolate flavor profile with low citrus, but as an occasional something different, this exactly hits the mark!
Arguably, the most memorable coffee I've ever drank. The berry notes are spot on and jump at you, especially when watered down and brewed at a higher temperature. I did a 1:16 with 215F water in the Hario, and the blackberry taste was extremely noticeable. I almost gave it a lower score due to the sometimes overwhelming taste, but at the end of the day that's exactly what one looks for, a unique flavor profile.
Wow the blueberry really comes through!! Not necessarily my flavor profile but it was fun to switch it up and try this!
Actually has a blueberry taste to it. It's okay
Appreciate that this was a Fair Trade Certified roast! The higher grounds roast are seemingly sourced ethically but through different certification boards so appreciated the Dillanos!
A little too bitter/smokey
Big fan of this. Good body without being overwhelming or heavy. The fruity under tones accent the caramel front very well
Lot of variety depending on what I changed brewing with the aeropress. Most of the outcomes were great!
This one was perfect! Easy to drink. Very light. In comparison to Smooth Operator even better.
The blueberry flavor was too strong for me but it dissipated after a week or so. I only like it when adding a big pinch of salt to the grounds when brewing.
I don't like the infusion of fruity notes into my coffee. I did start liking this a little more as I used a stronger beans:water ratio.
Not a huge fan...
The blueberries were a little overwhelming.
Very tasty coffee in the mornings. A bright noticeable blueberry aroma and taste. I used a pourover only.
good coffee, but had a funky after taste
The blueberry fruitiness is quite interesting, more noticeable in the aroma than the drinking to me. Smooth and satisfying. I favor the Day Tripper slightly to this one, but I'm enjoying trying out the different flavor profiles out there.
Pretty good! Has a lot of sweetness to it so I use this one a bit more sparingly.
I like this coffee. Hint of blueberry is nice. Could use a slightly darker roast but otherwise it is very balanced and a nice daily cup of coffee.
I enjoyed the berry notes and the acidity level was good for me. If this bag had a little more complexity or chocolaty notes on top of the berry notes it would have been a 5/5
Great taste. Perfect smoothness. To us it tasted a little dark not light-dark. But we loved it. Loved the body.
I enjoyed tasting very clearly how blackberry and blueberry notes come through, though I found I didn't like it much!
Really like the full bodied nature of it
Very fruity notes, but excellent texture and balance of acidity and bitterness. I would like coffees more like this!
Good flavor profile of blackberry and blueberry, just roasted too dark.
Nice strong blueberry aroma. Could try a lighter more floral coffee next time.
Too light of a roast, generally don't like the coffees with fruity notes.
Could actually taste all the nodes! Really wonderful.
Looooooooved this. It was so good.
Tasty, chocolate flavor with only a hint of acidity and a good amount of roast. Drinks smooth and has a pleasant, light mouthfeel. The biggest problem was yield - this coffee, per tablespoon, produced 50% less on average than expected. I checked the bag to make sure it was the correct grind, and it looked accurate, but I ended up with less coffee at the end.
A good coffee for sure, but not as much my thing. A little too fruity for me.
Loved the blueberry smell of this coffee. My favorite so far
Wasn't crazy about this one. I've had coffees with fruity notes in them before, but just didn't get much out of this blend. Tried it black, with cream and sugar, etc. Not bad, but nothing special.
Weird, bad smell.
Very late review but love this one. Don't remember how it tasted specifically, unfortunately.
Delicious. Really like the mouth feel of this one. First time having a single origin Ethiopian and the berry notes are very interesting. If it was just a tad bit more complex it would be even better.
Blueberry notes were a little overpowering. First brew is always out of the Chemex. Next up will be Mokapot and Cold Brew
I brewed this coffee using both pour over and aeropress methods. I noticed that the flavors were a bit more pronounced with the pour over. I could definitely detect the blackberry notes, but would prefer something that is a bit more acidic or citrus flavored. I ordered the Colomiba El Progresso from Parisi Coffee Roasters and enjoyed that coffee a little more than this one. Nevertheless, it still made a beautiful cup o' joe!
Don’t get me wrong- there is almost never a coffee that I don’t like- unless it is watered down office swill :) This just wasn’t my favorite. Maybe a little bitter or a small after note that wasn’t my favorite. Ground with a blade grinder and brewed in a drip and also in a kcup. Haven’t tried it in the French press yet.
Would have been better as a light. Going into Medium allowed a bit of roast taste to cover up the fruit. Smelled better than tasted.
Good coffee, but I prefer a less fruity taste.
Not as much a fan of the fruity notes. The coffee is good but not my preference - I prefer the sweeter flavors: chocolate, caramel, etc.
Loved the fruitiness!
I liked this better than the first! Loved tasting the bold flavor with the subtle blueberry. Delicious.
Not my favorite
Nothing special - Not as fruity as I had hoped. Seemed more earthy
tasted burnt, bad uneven roast
This was way too fruity for our tastes. I didn't know that I wasn't going to like something like this, but this one was just not for us.
This was a little on the bold side for me. I tend to like lighter body coffees. I might Change my preferences since I’ve really been liking the lighter and medium roasts! Thanks!
Really really good. Lots of blueberry / blackberry notes. A little tart, but that may have been caused by over extraction.
We liked this... we liked the smell and liked that it had more substance/flavor (less watery than the previous one). Still not mind blowing, but something I'd happily try again.
Not my favorite, but still really good.
I use a Moccamaster drip coffee machine. The blueberry and blackberry flavors were overpowering. Like drinking a blueberry muffin. But it smelled nice.
Not wild about it. Was too earthy.
I love fruity Ethiopian blends, and this was a good one. Very drinkable. I think at first the fruit notes were a little intense, but settled down after a few days. Very flavorful coffee.
Smooth, not acidic, nice balanced aftertaste.
Not a fan, after taste was bitter and dry. I prefer coffee with chocolate, caramel, and slightly citrus notes.
I didn't enjoy this roast overall. Unlike the Morning Sun roast, I found this varietal very difficult to coax out the berry flavor during brewing. I tried different grind sizings and water amounts and couldn't make a perfect cup. I found the coffee overall a touch harsh with no complexity.
we really liked the berry notes.
One of our favorites. Notes of blueberry are strongest. Makes great espresso. Oracle - grinder has been 26-28 with 26-30 second shot.
I'm not getting the fruit notes but I'm really loving this coffee. The natural sweetness and light caramel flavor and a little bit of nuttiness is just really good and definitely right up my alley.
Subtle, balanced, smooth. You can definitely pick up the berry hints with some slight acidity that lingers, Though nowhere near thin, i'm not sure "full-bodied" is fully accurate.
Definitely more enjoyable than the first bag in my queue. Looking forward to the next 2 weeks.
Brewed: whole-bean, 13 pulses on a Ninja blender, drip machine
UDPATE, 2nd time through:
Ordered again to try with french press. Better than I remember it as a drip coffee. The fruit notes are much more noticeable at the front, as is the full-bodied nature; followed by the previously mentioned balance and smoothness,
Brewed: Burr Grinder at most coarse setting, brewed in french press
I enjoyed this coffee. I only gave it four because it’s the first one I’ve received and who knows if there is a 5 out there that I haven’t tried yet.
I like this as cold brew but find it too bitter in pour over or French press.
It had a strange after taste, almost like sour milk.
Fine with milk and sugar. Not good on its own.
We did not enjoy this one. I don’t know if it was the light roast or the beans themselves, but this one was not a winner.
Pleasant blueberry aroma, smooth and rich taste
Very harsh. Was not a fan
I really didn't find this aromatic or really tasty at all - tasted very flat and burnt for me. Tried it out in both automatic drip and french press coffee makers with the appropriate grind size for each.
Loved this coffee! I wish it were just a bit more robust. I found I was able to change my brew recipe a bit to get what I wanted out of it. Keep the great coffee coming!
I didn’t realize Ethiopian coffees could have the amazing blackberry notes that Kenyan coffees are known for. This was a really good one - full bodied but nice and fruity. Loving the variety of different flavors so far!
I was really looking forward to this one as Ethiopians are my favorite region. Seems like the roast was off - very dark, rather acid, missing the fruitiness and juiciness I was expecting.
A solid coffee. I like the fruit flavors and the body. It's very flavorful, drinkable, and smooth
Made a great cold brew but really not great espresso
Some of the best coffee I've ever had. Amazing.
Alright, had some bitter notes
Coffee was never shipped by roaster.
This has been my favorite so far. My wife describes it as "sour" and I think I see what she means, but I'd describe it as "tangy." It doesn't feel "juicy" to me, but if that's what you'd cal it, then that's what I like.
One of the best coffees we have gotten so far. GREAT!! Thank you!
Enjoyed this for something different, but was probably just a little on the too fruity side for our preferences. Probably would prefer something a little nuttier (like Morning Sun and/or Klatch Colombia)
This one was good, but not great.
It is good on Aeropress, nothing to write home about but a decent standard cup.
This is best coffee we've had. Simply amazing.
A bit more acidic than most of the Ethiopian coffees I've had; normally my very favorite region, but this one just wasn't my favorite.
great flavor, true to the description of blueberry,
will be a favorite for sure
Smells very strong, with some machine olive notes. 'aggressive' taste.
I brewed this coffee with a French Press and as espresso. With the Press the cup was sweet and delightful. As espresso, the Ethiopian flavors were very apparent.
Very good coffee. Lots of distinct fruity flavors. Very exotic and not something you expect when smelling the beans.
A little overpowering on the fruitiness
Nice coffee! Not too light but not too dark. Just as advertised.
Pretty good, we have to brew it a bit stronger to get all of the flavor. Are there any unwashed available?
Good smooth cup of coffee. Berry flavor is strong. Almost more of a dessert coffee.
Decent. The most notable thing was the very noticable and palatable blueberry overtone that we enjoyed when we first brewed this coffee (in fact we thought it was flavored coffee at first). This note of blueberry did not come across with subsequent brewings which was a tad disappointing,
Not for me
This was the first bag that I have actually thrown away without completely using all the beans. Both my wife and I could not stand the after taste of these beans. It tasted moldy to us.
Wow, this coffee is remarkable! I don't always hop on and leave a review on my recent shipment, but this one is well worth it. It's delicious berry notes are similar to other ethiopian beans I've tried before, but it's much more mild and sweet, not too bright or sour tasting as I've found with others that can have juicy nuances. 18g per pour-over has been doing me just right. Thanks for this yummy selection!
Really tasty - surprised as I usually don’t think I’d like blueberry notes but was delightful
Unpleasant, almost rancid, odor. Bitter tasting when poured through a Chemex. Overall low quality compared to other varieties I've been receiving.
I don’t know how to describe it, but there is something distinctly off about several of the coffees I’ve had from Dillanos. If possible, I’d like to remove DCR from my future shipments.
Did not like this at all, there was a pungent flavor that we did not like.
Tasted good. Between Klatch and DCR, I liked Klatch better.
Thought I’d like this more. Nice and a bit above the Columbian Morning Sun selection above, I like a more crisp finish than perhaps either of these have.
Really tasty. Full and bright with an undertone of juicy berries. Really enjoyable!
crisp, blueberry muffin
Too dark with a lot of mixed berry flavor
Really good and bold Ethiopia. Over whelming blueberry flavor at times. Really enjoyed
I love the twist at the end. The blackberry flavor comes through and I enjoy the fuller body
Super solid Ethiopian. Good flavors, not too acidic.. Trying out in the cold brew as well.
Great taste and enjoyable
Fairly intense blueberry flavor. Darker roast than I would have liked. Mediocre coffee in general
Blueberry notes are strong. Definitely full-bodied. Not an everyday coffee for me but really nice departure for a change.
I do not like anything from this roaster
Enjoyed the bright flavor and juicy notes. Smooth finish
This coffee, as it was delivered to me, was way over-roasted. Though it's marked as a "medium-roast" this coffee is a dark roast, no question. The flavor of char and ash are overpowering and drown out any of the fruity goodness I was excited to get out of this Ethiopian coffee. Honestly quite disappointed.
enjoyed this one more as we drank it. felt earth/peaty at first, but later got the blueberry notes
Again, surprised by how much I liked this coffee with hints of flavor when overalll I do NOT like flavoring in my coffee. Rich and no hint of bitterness. Great cup of hot coffee with a french press.
Two stars for being over roasted to a point where all you taste is smoke. Subtract another for shipping it four days after than the roast date. Borderline undrinkable it was so bad.
The roast is pretty dark, dark enough to smoke out any other part of the flavor profile described on the bag or here on the dashboard.
Gorgeous, Evaluated as espresso. Rich berry flavors and smooth as silk. Lovely full body.
A little on the sweet side but still very smooth and easy to drink.
Beans were all over the place as far as size and roast. Took some time dialing in pourover to get a good balance of roast and fruit notes. In the end, little bit of blackberry/blueberry and a very nice full-bodied coffee.
Absolutely fantastic coffee, best I've had in quite a while. Nice body and strong blueberry notes. Made in a Chemex @ 1:15 ratio.
I really like the flavor of this berries in this one.
Could definitely taste the blueberry. That came through for sure. It was interesting and a nice change of pace. It was not your typical "fruity" notes but I'm not sure that it was really my thing.
Light-bodied but strong. A bit of astringency, not especially smooth. Michael's favorite, he loves it - order again!
I am a fan of African coffees, but this one was odorless and tasteless to me. YMMV, but I was not very happy with it in my Saeco automatic.
This was great! Really appreciated the berry flavors and fruitiness. It was medium to light and really enjoyed it.
One of my new Favorites
Has a pleasant aroma of muddled clove and brown sugar.
There is a mild sweetness to it with a hint of berries. Very mild in my opinion. I'm not able to pull any citrus/sour/acidic aftertaste to it which is disappointing as I prefer that to balance the sweetness with. Almost no bitterness at the end either.
Overall a decent brew, but would like it to be a bit more acidic.
Drank it hot/black as a V60 pourover.
Flavor was a little bit too strong, but overall good taste and feel.
This roast is too light for my tastes.
I think the coffee is fine, but my husband does not like the berry taste.
This was excellent. I normally am not a fan of African coffees and never drink it black and yet this one was easy for me to drink black. Very good and juicy but not strong on the berry flavors for me.
Loved the hints of blueberry; definitely a lot more noticeable than I originally though it would be.
The cold brew of these beans almost tastes like bad alcohol. The tastes are strong, but I hate them all.
Crazy fruity and fragrant. An awesome Ethiopian.
Felt like I had to wait several days for this coffee to taste like it is supposed to, Not sure how I feel about natural wash either, Im still pretty new to coffee and found the flavor a bit abnormal. I would be up to try another one after a few months.
I’m sure this is a good coffee but I don’t find the blueberry taste pleasant at all.
Matt & Claire
Would rate higher if I liked medium roasts more
Really enjoyed the fruity notes.
wait sorry haven't gotten this one yet. meant that review for the one before
A little darker than I was expecting
Too floral/fruity tasting. Very smooth
This is a delicious coffee! The prominent berry flavors make each cup a mixed berry pie -- a slice of summer in February. Definitely one of my favorites so far.
Really enjoyed the fruit notes on this one.
I found my first brew a tad sour, but next I brewed at 195 F and the sour disappeared. I tasted mostly blackberry and enjoyed its fuller mouth feel.
Really good cup of coffee. Blackberry and blueberry really shined through from the aroma to the flavor. Had a nice chocolate flavor that rounded it out really well. Was my girlfriends favorite coffee from mistobox so far.
Too light, too fruity. We did not enjoy the taste
Ok. Not as fruity as I’d like
Really disliked this one. It smelled great but was much too fruity for my tastes.
This was very berry as advertised with a great body too. I really like this cup, but would also like to try a few others with similar body, but less fruit forward. The cup finished very well!
Everything I expect and hope for from an Ethiopian bean. Incredibly juicy big blueberry and blackberry flavors. Slightly acidic.
Excellent flavors, very pronounced, fruity
Good coffee lots of berry notes
Insane berry notes! Cold brewed, the nose is even stronger.
This coffee was great. I didn't give it 5 stars as I'm reserving that for what would be my "Top 5 best coffees".
I liked the fruity taste to it, but for my next coffee, and I'm looking for an earthy, bold flavor. Looking forward to hearing your recommendations!
I liked the sweet blow followed by a full body aftertaste.
I find that I really love and look forward to the Ethiopian coffees like this, with their bold flavor and berry notes. I really enjoy this one, and could drink it daily! Definitely a 5-star for me.
Amazing Beans! Love everything about it.
Great, loved the notes of blackberry and blueberry
I never thought I had a coffee that was too fruity.... Until this.
I really like this coffee, it's smooth and for lack of a better phrase, bursting with blueberry flavor. I'd say it was more of a fun than everyday coffee, but again, very tasty!
This has a darker burnt taste that is a turn off, although i've definitely had worst tasting coffees.
it is good....but a little more bitter...could be a grind issue
Loved it. Definitely tasted the blueberry. Very fun coffee
This coffee has an aftertaste that I do not enjoy. Almost tanic in nature.
Excellent flavor. My favorite coffee you guys have sent.
No matter how we brewed it, it tasted kind of watery and lacked punch.
AMAZING!! Best coffee I've received from mistobox so far! The fruitiness is very pronounced yet is still very balanced.
indifferent to this... i'll drink it but mostly to just get rid of the beans
Prefer lighter roasts
Love this coffee. Rich yet smooth.
I've brewed about five Ethiopian coffees in a row. All prior to this were good with fruit-forward flavors no matter the brew method or grind. This one tastes like aspirin and tin foil. I've never had an Ethiopian without the slightest hint of fruit in it. It's so non-fruity and bitter that I question if the bag contains the right coffee or if I got a defective roast or something. After several brew attempts, I figured out it's decent if I sift the grounds first and then do a full immersion brew. It's a huge hassle and still not the least bit fruity or sweet but at least I can finish the bag.
I would drink this fruit loop-y coffee erry day.
Coffe is not our style, what we've noticed is there is a particular note in some coffees that has a sour taste. I cannot pinpoint a common denominator but it was heavy in this particular roast.
This was hands down the best cup of coffee to date with this subscription. There is so much blueberry and blackberry notes on both the aroma and taste its not even funny. I cannot express how much I enjoyed this coffee. Please send me more like this one!
The fruit notes were very present, I liked that a lot. I don't think it's been my favorite, but if you want something that is very fruit-forward and almost tart, this is the one.
Smells incredible. Great taste as well. Love the berry notes and smells. Less caffeine than I'm used to which is probably a good thing. Very very good coffee.
This! This hit the target on the money. I'd be happy to drink this forever. It has the perfect note of fruitiness while throwing in a whole range of holiday spice flavors. It's so complex yet still smooth to the palate. Literally perfect.
Way too fruity for me, also left a bad after taste. Not a fan.
Excellent cup of coffee and a nice change of pace from my previous flavor profiles.
