This is the Darkest Side Of the Moon brought to you by Passion House Coffee Roasters. This dark roast is a rocket ship that transports your tastebuds to a land of dark chocolate, roasted walnut, and toffee.
We made using filter drip method, but this isn't our favorite. It is nice, but it is a bit too bitter for perfection. The notes do pull through nicely.
Not rich enough, tastes like mc donalds meets hipster.
This has a softer lighter taste. Also I feel like they over roasted the beans. The beans crack in the grinder instead of grinding like a good coffee bean.
This at least smells like a dark roast but still lacks a full bodies dark appearance and flavor. It leaves an after-taste that's difficult to describe - maybe "semi-sweet" or "metallic" if that's a description. It's better than the previous two selections but is still not a dark roast in my view.
The toffee undertone is what puts it over the top relative to a lot of the richer and darker coffees.
Strong & full nutty end flavor, but the front taste is flat and weak. Seemed medium and not dark at all. Too acidic for our preferences.
Good. Not quite great, but close. Smooth and not bitter. But borderline bland.
though labeled as a dark roast it was more of a medium roast with high acid level and not a smoth finish
Another winner. Thoroughly enjoyed this smooth, rich roast. Chocolate, toffee and nutty flavors are so good.
This coffee was good. It wasn't as full bodied as the Alma Essence. But it had good flavor and was very easy to drink.
Tastes like coffee. Liked the chocolate notes, but wished it had more depth.
This was good BUT it has too much caffeine. This happens occasionally with certain beans. I can't drink my normal amount without getting jittery. I'll have to pass in the future sadly.
This one was very good. We both liked the richness and the nuttiness. John likes the darkness of this roast a little bit more than I do, though. One other thing I would add to raise the score would be a little more fullness or roundness to the taste.
This has been my favorite so far
Really tasty, both black and with a splash of cream (brewed as cold brew: 16:1 in fridge for 22 hours)
This coffee is not dark at all.
This coffee was ok. Had a very slight fruit flavor to it. Nothing major, just a very subtle sweetness.
Good everyday coffee. Well balanced, familiar flavors. Nothing surprising, but nothing dull.
We loved this coffee! I think we're learning that we like nut/toffee flavors, rather than citrusy/fruity flavors- but we're still learning what we like as we go!
I’m not sure if there was a mistake, but the coffee that arrived was very light in color.
Jinoy & Sheena
Good roast, allows the flavors to be enjoyed
Not bad, but not great
Good but a little too acidic/bitter
Favorite thus far! Excellent flavor!
Okay, a little too earthy
I was not a fan. I'm thinking maybe dark chocolate is not a flavor I care for. I seem not to like those ones as much.
Not very dark or rich. More like a medium roast.
Bold flavor with strong bitter notes
Overall great coffee with what I would consider a standard coffee taste. Very solid coffee, I could see this being a coffee I drink regularly.
Very good would like to try more single origin espresso/medium dark in the future.
Nice and nutty, mild chocolate notes. Liked this one.
Triggers my gag reflex
Says it's their darkest roast but seems pretty medium. Always comes out bitter for me in French press.
too acidic for me. didn't really enjoy it
This was okay, but not nearly as flavorful as the last two shipments. The roast was not as dark as I usually like.
A bit too bitter.
Hasn't given me a this coffee is great, I really enjoyed Tonys and Alma coffee so far. I like a dark Roast but the flavors just weren't it for me
interesting flavors but a little too bitter
Flavor is ok. Beans are dry.
Not bad but nothing special, missing the rich body I am hoping for. First bag to be subjected to the Encore grinder -- a bit flaky at 28 setting, I don't know if that is what is expected.
Toffee definitely comes through
Don't love the dark roast, it seems flat to me
Really not enjoying this. It tastes more like a light roast, almost a little bitter.
This was sent from mistobox for my espresso maker and these are not really espresso beans?! The beans did not look dark at all. I am using these for espresso on my Jura z 10 and the finest grind sheeting and a straight shot of espresso was sour.
I liked this one okay, the roast level was good but the coffee had a "bright" almost citrusy note that didn't appeal to me.
Did not like. Tasted chalky. Had to throw rest of bag away.
Nice taste to it with our cappuccinos.
It was okay- not as enjoyable as the first roast we got. Feel like it’s missing something. First sip was sort of blah
Didn’t enjoy the smell or flavor
Prefer darker roast
Beautifully dark and balanced with a perfect amount of bitterness. The packaging was also really cool!
This was a great but I need something with a little more aromatic punch and flavor. I don't have any specific complaints but I prefer more aroma while I pull the shot and a more bold flavor when drinking. I should add that I typically only drink latte's so the flavor gets washed out a bit when I add it to milk.
Liked it but it wasn’t too special
Flavor is not one I would gravitate towards.
Too light. We really like a darker bean.
I feel that this coffee lacks in aroma. It tastes dull.
A perfect cup of coffee
Not a huge fan of this one. Made using mistobox aero press instructions. Tastes and looks more like a medium roast. Can’t judge the smell due to lingering side effects. Will try again utilizing different methods and will update review.
Update: The more I drank this coffee the less I liked it.
It was very strong and flavourful coffee
Very smoky aroma out of the bag but not overly intense in the brew. Still more than for my taste, but makes a good mocha.
A nice strong blend with sweetness and notes of chocolate.
Loved this one, rich and roasty and smooth, nutty and chocolatey too
Not dark enough
Smooth and I loved the chocolate finish
I didn’t love this coffee because it didn’t quite have that smooth, dark taste I like in coffee. The beans were not roasted enough and too dry for my taste .
Really good, liked this more than the deep space blend- but again looking for some more complexity without losing that nice chocolatey richness
Can't quite recall but I think we liked
Not quite as good as their Night Moves, but still excellent.
This one was ok , it was not my favorite. The taste was not as strong as i would prefer , and it doesn't mix well with almond milk if that matters to you . I use a pour over brew, French press and re-useable kcup for reference. I will say it did blend well with oatmilk but it did not have the flavor to make me want to order it again . The packaging and the name are pretty cool though .
This is a very sour tasting and super light roast. Unless they screwed up and sent me the wrong coffee, this is NOT a dark roast. I usually drink some type of French Roast, so this coffee tasted flavorless, yet very sour. I made one pot, and will likely through the rest in the garbage--absolutely not good!
I definitely got some of the toffee flavors but more so on the nose than the taste.
Very nice medium-dark roast with a great flavor profile, I wish those notes were more prominent though
too strong of a dark taste
Liked in more than most dark roasts. Not overly bitter, subtle sweetness and super subtle acidity. This is about where I like my dark roasts to live.
LOVE! Great flavor, smell, full bodied, rich (and beans are dry). This one is fantastic!
Good flavor. More medium then dark. Nice roasted profile.
Awesome packaging! A nice chocolatey taste with a smoky finish. I like this blend because it’s very much like a smooth darker medium roast.
Like Soulmate a little better. Think Darkest side of the Moon was a bit stronger than I would typically enjoy.
I like this one. Played well with my favorite creamer and had a neutral aftertaste. Bold but not overpowering.
Very good. We liked it.
did not have the dark rich taste that I was expecting
Tiny bit sour, but a great name!
Great cup of coffee. Light cream and light Splenda.
I really dig this coffee but it benefits a lot from some dairy and a touch of sugar. On it’s own, I’d call it a medium / dark. There’s a lot of dry bean flavor, not unpleasant but it tastes very much like a bean. It’s right in the middle of dry vs oily. No string notes beyond being the most coffee coffee that I could detect. With some fat added it comes together into a nice, smooth, cohesive beverage.
I use this one for weekend coffee where I put stuff in it but it’s not my first pick for my black coffee on weekdays.
This is really good. I think I like this Passion House place. Love that this has a lot of flavor and a very smooth and rich finish with not a ton of acid. I started measuring with a scale instead of just the scoop, and now I bought a burr grinder, so hopefully it will keep getting better.
Was not really that dark.
I liked it, Karen did not so much
Exactly the kind of coffee I love. Full bodied and rich without any Smokey or bitter flavor.
Good notes, definite notes of chocolate and molasses. Good solid cup of coffee
Baking spices, chocolate
Strong and rich, with a nuanced undertone. Some of the best qualities in an espresso..
Very nice flavor and strength
This is also close to what we're looking for, but is a little too bitter for us. It would be better if it was a little smoother.
dark and sweet love it.
This is definitely a huge favorite. We felt we could taste so many layers of flavor. This was the perfect coffee.
