This is the Morning Sun brought to you by Olympia Coffee Roasting Co. This Fully Washed coffee was grown in the Tolima region of Colombia between 1600 and 1900 meters above sea level. We think this coffee is extremely reliable and ideal for your morning filter/drip brewing methods. It also makes an exceptional cold brew as the temperatures rise and you are looking for something to serve over ice.
For as good as this smells, I was surprised at how subtle the flavor was. I tried a dozen different combinations of temperature and brew times, but never was wowed by the flavor I was able to pull from it. That's not to say I didn't enjoy it. It always turned out smooth and slightly sweet. When making it iced, I never felt the need to add sugar. Always a pleasant cup. But I think I'm looking for something a bit bolder and deeper. Though I like the sweet undertones, I want the juxtaposition of a dark, smoky roast.
Excellent balance. Mildly sweet. I'm looking forward to trying this in my cold brew.
Eh, a bit too bitter for myself
Rather smooth for a darker roast but I definitely would not label this as a medium roast. Per Olympia Coffee's description, "Morning Sun is our darkest roast".
A great well-rounded coffee that would be a pleasure to drink on a daily basis. Though it is somewhat lacking in distinguishing characteristics or flavors.
love the fruitiness
A bit too tangy for my tastes. I don't like coffee that has that much tang and is also light. I like coffee that is robust. I very rarely buy coffee that is that light. I prefer dark and robust. I don't ever want to drink coffee like this again. While it's not disgusting, I don't think this coffee is a good one.
Total noob at this, but my initial reaction was: not bitter/smooth, good cup of coffee, but also struck me as not having a lot depth of flavor . . .?? Did not taste the chocolate, hazelnut maybe, but, again, am new to "tasting" coffee (vs just a tasty/addictive means of putting me in go mode for the day).
This was a great coffee! We really liked the smoothness of the chocolate and nutty flavors, without losing a touch of red berry Colombian single origins have. Excellent everyday coffee, even if it doesn't have any stand out notes.
One of my favorite coffees so far. Really satisfying coffee
It was good, though a little bright/acidic. I really like a mellow brew and this was good enough that I definitely will drink it but don’t know if it would be my go-to. I love that it was a “dark roast” that wasn’t really a dark roast (didn’t taste burnt or anything). Flavor was really good.
Delicious, had a creamy finish and you can actually taste the hazelnut.
Chocolatey, but not very good
Realizing on the first cup that I really don't like darker roasts. I've been loving my beans from a local roaster that recently closed, and they didn't really classify as dark/light, but I definitely prefer the lighter, more complex flavors. Not sure if I'll be able to get through this one.
Very good flavor, a little too light for my preference.
This was a good cup of coffee, but not all together interesting. Very velvety texture almost like hot chocolate. The chocolate notes were dense once the cup cooled and overpowered all other flavors. Not as dark or full bodied, more of a medium roast with decent profile. Good, not great.
A bit on the weak side and a tad bland. It was smooth and not bitter.
Not something I want to drink to pick me up in the morning. Would be good for days that I wasn't feeling good.
Good, easy drinking coffee. QI’d like to try something with a little more unique flavour profile.
At first taste, I thought, "This is pretty good," but as it cooled there was a moment when it was sublime: super creamy with heavy chocolate. It's been hard to recapture that perfect temperature, but it is still good.
Rich and excellent taste! One of the best ever
Coffee was delicious
One of the fav
I like this, but it seems a bit more acidic than I usually like. I'm really bad at describing flavors, but hopefully will get better!
Great cup of coffee
I liked it but was not a fav. Not particularly interesting. Easy to drink but probably like something with a bit more interest.
Not bad, a little lighter than what I normally drink, I am going to try grinding it differently (medium versus fine) to see if I like it a bit more that way.
It is the perfect blend of all my favorite flavors. It brewed very nicely in my pour over. It is absolutely delightful! Will definitely order again in the future.
more chocolate taste than hazelnut.
This coffee is excellent for what it is however my profile apparently got mixed up. In the questions I listed a preference for darker roasts and I said I used a French press and a Moka pot not a filter drip system as stated in the description of Morning Sun. In my next coffee I would prefer a darker smokier roast but not to over power the flavor.
This was an excellent roast! It borders just on the edge of dark roast, and that's not a bad thing! The rich and deep flavors are truly amazing in this coffee.
Enjoyed it! Would prefer a slightly darker roast!
Smooth and flavorful
Good full bodied coffee
Good, but a little to light for my taste
It was delicious!
Very excited to see this in the shipment and soon thereafter realized I had visited Olympia Coffee during travel for business a few years ago! Loved this blend!
Somewhat bitter. Not totally unpleasant, but I prefer strong and smooth..
I enjoyed this coffee very much.
As Tasting note said. It was definitely full body, with dark chocolate-ish taste.
I loved chocolate taste, I would been great if it had more sweetness or creamy taste.
I would prefer little bit more fruity note, but not too acidity.
Brew Method: Hario V60
Ratio: 6g(coffee)/100g (water)
Grind: Mid Fine
Not as bold as I would have liked. Could use a stronger flavor
Love the complexity of this coffee. It was chocolate-y but also bright with the nutty flavors. It had a vanilla smell to it that I loved.
great coffee - very smooth and silky
I love the deep flavor and sweet aroma of this coffee. A very rich and tasty cup.
I really enjoyed this, especially the first batch that we brewed. The aroma is great and the beans smell like chocolate after brewing!
Not bad, I enjoyed it. I’m not sure it’s my favorite. I liked the weight of the flavor but not all the nuances. I think it was the hazelnut I didn’t like? But overall it was good.
It was ok, I definitely get some hints of citrus/acidity and slight nutty notes but it felt too light for my preference.
Coffee was too light. I like darker, richer coffees.
It tastes stale and bitter. Not good for espresso.
Mom & Dad
Tasted too light and dirty
Not a fan of the taste. The chocolate and hazelnut taste was overpowering.
Had as a Chemex and Iced. Very good either way. Solid brew.
It was very robust. The smell was burnt despite it having a good aftertaste. The coffee coated my tongue in a good way. I had barely any hint of chocolate, or hazelnut.
Maybe too dark?
This was the perfect cup of coffee. I drank it through a chimex black. Right amount of flavor, not bitter at all.
Really like it. Fruitier thani’m used to, but very nice.
Good. Loved how fresh it was. Different than my standard of French Roast but very good.
I liked the cold brew better than the drip. The drip tasted a little watery to me (I like very bold coffee) Plus, I am still learning my new coffee maker, so maybe I just didn't hit the perfect water ratio on the drip.
Beans smelled great but coffee was not bold enough. I probably won't use the beans again.
I liked it a lot. It was a bit lighter than I am used to, but sometimes it is good to try something new. I could tell it was very fresh and it arrived in a timely manner.
Tastes great! Not too strong.
Had mild citrus or fruit tones that I am not a fan of in general. I like full bodied dark smooth coffee.
I was a bit concerned because it's definitely on the darker side of what I'm used to, but the flavors were incredibly calming and smooth. Definitely not false advertising for this one. I generally prefer light-medium roasts but this was incredible.
I love the name of the coffee and fortunately I enjoyed this coffee very much. I mostly drink iced coffee year round, but I tended to drink this one hot more because of the cold weather still going on in the Northeast. However, I did try this as an iced coffee and was very happy to find this to be awesome. It's been tough to break my Starbucks addiction for being there so long as a customer but also being a partner for the past two years until I left recently. I'm glad to have dived into this one and cannot wait to try other ones by Olympia.
This was a good full bodied coffee and I certainly enjoyed the hazelnut element but the flavor wasn't the strongest (which made it great for a morning brew each day). I would like to try something less morning brew/chocolate flavor and more towards the lighter side/flavor if that makes sense.
It is delicious! I look forward to it every morning as it is comforting and the perfect medium roast for me.
I didnt much like this coffee. It tastes kind of blah and weak. I brewed in my moccamaster.
So I've been drinking this bad boy for a few days now. Opening the bag and the delicious smell of chocolate and hazelnut was a beautiful aroma. I'm enjoying it a lot so far, but it must be my time working in a coffee house and falling in love with dark roasts that this one isn't dark enough for me. I do recommend this to casual drinkers. I do want to try this iced because sometimes in the past when I've tried some coffee's hot, more often than not the coffee was better iced.
Very well balanced cup of Medium coffee. Not an overly heavy body so it feels lighter than a typical cup of a dark bold roast. You do get light notes of hazelnut and a dark chocolate flavor which is pleasant. There is zero smoke on this bean, which probably is why it feels lighter than you would expect for a “full body”. This would be a delightful daily coffee.
I brewed this as a pour over. The beans appeared to be perfectly roasted. It certainly has a bright flavor and is not overly bitter when had black.
Tasted great. I am still new to coffee but the taste was smooth and refreshing
Loved the smell when brewing and the nutty flavor.
T.J. & Kate
Delicious, rich, and bright! I really enjoy waking up to a cup of this coffee.
Once I dialed in my grinder, it was absolutely excellent... but as per usual, that was on my last use of the beans.
Tasted like a decent restaurant coffee. Not full bodied.
Wonderful selection. Perfectly approachable in the morning. Excited to see what comes next.
No bitterness, yet still full bodied
A pleasant brew. Nothing earth-shattering but did the trick with a more elegant style.
Sorry, maybe brewed this wrong but seemed pretty sour .
This is very good and I'm really enjoying every cup. Nothing stands out flavor-wise and that's both good and bad. Can a coffee be too balanced? I can drink this anytime, but I could see getting bored with it.
I brew with an aeropress and I have a burr grinder. I brewed 20 grams of coffee (I liked medium grind best) with 200ml of water at 195 degrees. 1 min of brew time, then I added another 100 grams of water.
Slight more fruity than I wanted, but all around very good.
Wonderful aroma - perfect morning coffee.
I said nothing chocolate or nutty and this is what I got.
Lovely richness, would definitely buy again.
Liked this coffee. Easy-drinking, flavorful with hints of chocolate. Moderately acidic. Would be a good go-to everyday coffee but didn't blow my mind away
Morning Sun is def full-bodied, but still very smooth. I noticed this particularly when compared to my last coffee (Ruby's Peru Yoel Samaniego).
Of all the flavor descriptors, I pick up the roasted hazelnut the most, but am also catching the dark chocolate & vanilla.
I like this a lot, and would def have it again in the future, but probably wouldn't want to hang out in the dark roasts indefinitely.
I tasted the hazelnut most, which I liked. Very smooth and drinkable black. Brewed according to the instructions on the box: 1 tbsp. per 3 oz. coffee
Good, not great.
This is a wonderful coffee. It is well-balanced and toward the lighter end of "dark roast". I highly recommend this coffee.
It is too acidic to my liking. Also drip coffee maker may not be ideal for this coffee. Regardless of the amount of ground I put, coffee tasted watery.
It was fine. Actually, for the coffee it is, pretty good. I prefer a bit more fruit or caramel in my coffee. Grinding it a little coarser than I normally do actually helped a bit as well.
It was good! Not life changing but good.
Chocolate-y, full bodied, simple. Delicious
I enjoyed the cup of coffee. The flavor notes were very evident.
Really delicious, delicate and crisp coffee. Just be sure to use 1/3c / 16oz because it loses its punch significantly at lower ratios.
Tried the first cup at the 16:1 recommended ratio out of a Chemex. Looking forward to trying this as cold brew. I prefer something with more fruit notes but a strong four star rating.
I liked the flavor. It was a tiny bit dark, but I've only had one cup of it so far.
Familiar and easy to drink, especially with food. Good contrast to lighter, more citrusy and floral beans.
When I first brewed it, I used my normal 17:1 ratio and it was way too weak. When I followed the recommended 16:1 it was better, but still a bit less flavorful than I would prefer.
My wife and I really liked this coffee for our espresso and americano.
Great morning cup. Very easy and smooth.
It was decent but I want something more fruity
Too much chocolate. Good aroma out of bag. Lacking full range brewed.
This is a great go to coffee for daily use. Easy to drink (not too dark not too light) and the taste holds up if you come back to a cold cup of coffee later on in the day
Caffeine content seems low. A little too light in flavor.
I liked it very much. Strange though. It looks and grinds like a light roast yet it tastes and looks like a dark roast after brewing.
I love this coffee! The chocolate/hazelnut flavors are super subtle but delicious with oat milk
3.5 stars I'd say. It's good but a bit darker than I generally like. I would prefer something a bit sweeter.
Still trying to get the grind right brewing with the V60, but so far not tasting very strong flavors, if anything a bit smoky
Really good, I think like any coffee it would be better in a pour-over or french press. But it’s amazing! Full bodied, rich but not overpowering
One of the best coffees I have ever had!
Nice level of acidity. Chocolate/hazelnut sounds right. A lil fruity: too much further in that direction and I'd not be into it.
Bill and Annette
This is a very good coffee. I am called a coffee snob, this is a very good coffee that I would buy again. Five star rating is hard to rate properly on a scale of 1 to 10 I would give it an eight which is very very good. Top shelf.
A little acidic
It is fruity
LOVE this coffee! So delicious made as an espresso!
This was a good coffee, a little light for a medium roast. A course grind wasn't able to bring out the full flavor when using a french press. Aeropress with a more fine grind was more flavorful
GRIND #6. 16:1 RATIO. 4 1/2 STARS
Worst coffee I've ever had can I get a refund or different bag?
It was delicious with nice layers of flavor.
It was “okay”. Has an after taste, I’m thinking is the hazelnut.
Loved it! It's not as dark as I typically like my coffee (hence 4 stars), but I definitely appreciate that you can taste the chocolate and hazelnut tones.
I’d like a bit more “punch”.
Too bright for my liking, I taste more lemon than chocolate
Good coffee, a little too bright/acidic for my tastes
This coffee was very weak. It did not have a bold enough taste for my liking. I brewed it in a Chemex as well as a drip machine. Neither produced an enjoyable taste. I would like something stronger and bolder tasting.
We enjoyed these beans as they had a nice flavor and mouth feel. We would order this again.
My settings call for dark roast. This is a pretty light roast for my taste. I'm not a big fan of this one
Liked flavors of hazelnut and chocolate, slightly more acidic than I prefer. Broke my soymilk every time no matter the temp
Aroma didn’t match the taste as fully. Would look for something a little fuller in flavor/richness.
The coffee was pretty good. I have only made one batch, so I need a few more tries before I really know how it tastes.
Great balanced coffee. Great flavor profile.
Meh. Bitter and uninspiring.
Not what I would have chosen myself, so it was a nice surprise to get such a nice cup. I'd prefer more acidity; the tasting notes were spot on
It was a delicious treat, brewed well. Looked forward to it every morning
This coffee worked great for both pour over and espresso. Very bright flavor with minimal bitterness. We loved it.
Really fabulous aroma while percolating. Very smooth. Very enjoyable
Good but a little bit bright. Might be that I haven't dialed in my brewing method yet.
This coffee is very flavorful and smooth. (easy to drink)
Liked that one very much.
Loved this coffee.
Nice and light, good for a cold brew
A very safe coffee.
This was great!
Liked the flavor but it was a bit more chocolatey and
hazelnut than I would have preferred. Still a great option to kick things off with.
It’s okay, it’s not as coffee flavored as I’d like the softer side maybe the chocolate comes out too much
Great medium / full-bodied roast. brewed both in chemex and aeropress and enjoyed the nuances. I am generally more inclined to less rich/chocolately notes, but enjoyed this nonetheless.
Great. Mild, earthy. Not bitter at all. Perfect!!
Loved it! Perfect roast level with unique flavors!
pretty good, although I have been enjoying fruitier, light roast, more acidic coffees lately. would like to try darker/bolder coffees as winter comes.
It was alright. Would prefer something a bit bolder next time, and maybe frutier as well.
Best dark roast ever
Very nice on the chemex or the v60 when you get the grind dialed in right. The chocolate and nut notes are lovely.
Loved the chocolatey-ness. Wasn’t a big fan of the nuttiness but I still am enjoying every cup of it. I like it better aeropressed than pour over
Very disappointing lacked any distinctive flavors and very bitter. Adjusting grind level did not make a difference.
This coffee is a pleasant and satisfying medium roast. I really did notice the subtle chocolate taste.
It was really smooth and my wife even liked it black!
Smell really good,
Nice rich, light coffee
Great on French press
Very good flavor. Very light aroma. Very smooth taste. Very very very. ;-) I like it!
Olympia Coffee Morning Sun
Intensely acidic, oily, dark notes
Felt the caffeine quite strongly
Roasty dark chocolate, rich and heavy
Strong/burnt after taste
Felt need to brush teeth after drinking
This is a meta review because we (4 of us) drank this coffee two days in a row in order to compile this review.
This is a solid cup of coffee. Definitely full-bodied and dark, but without heavy oil. While there is a hint of chocolate, it's not over-bearing. You can definitely taste the hazelnut. I'm happy to have tried it.
Love the fragrance and how rich it is
Pleasant and smooth roast.
A little dark and one dimensional
NOT "Chocolate" or "Hazelnut" or "Full Bodied".
More like "Peas" and "Plants" and "Light".
Only drinking it because I paid for it.
Smooth tasting, not real strong but a good coffee.
Very very good. Has a long lasting after taste but it's quite pleasant.
Great morning coffee. First time I ground in an antique hand grinder that ground too coarse so it was a bit sour. Used a finer grind next time and it was outstanding. Brewed in a Redline Mk 1
Great coffee. I’ll reorder this one
Tasted really good. Would like to try a lighter roast to see which one I prefer.
Unbelievable on the Chemex. Incredible flavor profile.
Bright. Solid weekday morning sipper.
It was absolutely delicious
Love the full mouthfeel and the rich flavors.
Michael thought this was bright, full-bodied, and chocolatey. Good stuff.
Pretty nutty flavor, gives good aromatic smell after brewing it in auto drip
Nothing special but still a good cuppa in the morning.
Wouldn't mind it as an every day cup; I loved the sinfully rich notes, made it taste like I was having a bit o' dessert for breakfast. There were moments where the aftertaste was pointier/punchier bean than I like. Like a "HARRGH, here is your punishment for drinking this good stuff!"
Somewhat high acidity but still nice
I think it’s a good cup of coffee, but it’s not as full as I typically like my coffees. The flavor was muted unless I increased the amount of coffee in my aeropress.
We LOVED this coffee and wouldn't mind if you decided to send it again at some point in our subscription. Thanks!
Great balanced flavor with a big bitter flavor more chocolate than burnt
This is a lovely coffee. The bag smelled amazing when it arrived in the mail. Really enjoy the delicateness this coffee maintains while being full bodied with nuttiness, chocolate notes and a little bit of fruitiness.
Very good, solid coffee.
Took a bit long for delivery, though.
