The Boru Batak Sumatra was carefully roasted for you by Bird Rock Coffee Roasters. This Semi-washed, Wet-hulled coffee was grown in the Lintongnihuta region of Sumatra between 1,000 and 1,400 meters above sea level.
I really enjoyed this coffee as someone who appreciates coffees with unique flavor profiles. As others have noted, the tobacco note is quite strong, though I noticed this waned as the coffee aged. This could also be as a result of improved brewing technique, however, as the final half of the bag was much better than the first half. There is a good deal of dried fruit as well as a sort of floralness to this coffee as well. I didn't find the body to be syrupy (brewing with aeropress) but it certainly wasn't thin or weak.
I definitely recommend this to those who, like myself, enjoy unique coffees (or for those who simply enjoy earthy coffees from the Pacific region). Maybe give it a few days to rest. It starts getting good a week+ from roast.
The tobacco notes on this one are legitimate. It tasted too much like a cigarette.
Accurate description of tobacco. Very astringent.
Tried with v60, kalita wave, clever, and aeropress. Looking for more light roast vs light-medium. Floral notes
Probably the best espresso I’ve ever had. I love the dark plum and complex acidity. Brewed 18g:40g out over 20-24 secs with a declining profile. Absolutely love this coffee. Although it says it’s a light roast, it certainly doesn’t have a traditional light flavor profile. Wish it was available on a subscription tier on mistobox.
A little funky with the tobacco notes
I think I just need more time with this one. Getting forward salty notes which is unusual for me as I tend to stick to Africans. Definitely get the earthiness and slight smoke. Need to keep playing around to draw out more of the dried fruit notes, but overall a smooth sipper and a unique change of pace from my usual.
Smooth but with an unpleasant aftertaste.
Love this coffee. Very flavorful
Seems a little more roasted than I'd like.
The flavor was a bit weak but did enjoy the sweetness.
One of my favorites...second bag of this. It hits everything unique - tobacco, earthy, with dark ripe fruit. This certainly for me is a fantastic change up from my everyday Ethiopian coffees. If you enjoy bourbon whiskey and a fine cigar and you can pick up nice flavorful notes in them, than this might be a coffee for you, it's real good.
This is fantastic.
Don't usually like Indonesian beans but this is very well done
Not my favorite. Tried several different techniques and grind sizes but I'm failing to get much flavor out of it. Enjoy more fruit and floral notes in my coffee.
