This is the Kenya Gachatha OT-18 brought to you by Onyx Coffee Lab. This fully washed coffee was grown by the Gachatha Farmers Cooperative Society in the Nyeri County region of Kenya at 2,050 meters above sea level. This coffee has everything you want with notes of peach and sugar cane complemented by white grape and tamarind.
just perfect. super bright, balanced. nice hit of fruit. super super good
Really liked this Kenyan from Onyx. It's a lighter roast than their Gichathaini PB, but it still has roastier qualities than many of their other beans. Brew notes on Onyx's website called for using a V60 @ 205*F, 1:16 ratio at 2:30 brew time. Found that this really accentuated the subtler aspects of the coffee, as this requires a fairly coarse grind and short brew time. Also great pulled as a fruity, acidic espresso - still dialing it in.
So far I really like this coffee. I agree with the description that it is BRIGHT! It is crisp with a lighter mouthfeel, plenty of acidity for my taste. I haven’t been able to pin point tasting notes specifically, but at this time I would say citrus & sweet. I like this brew better than my first MistoBox. I’ve used Hario v60 with a grind setting of 20 out of 40 on Baratza Encore.
My first pot brewed in a Chemex was so bright and delicious! I think it went sort of stale quickly as I never could achieve that brightness again. Still really good.
I thought this was a pretty well-balanced cup -- sweet but with some body to back it up. It didn't have the dried fruit/raisin note that I usually pick up form a Kenyan coffee, instead it seemed more like a general sweetness rather than a specific flavor in particular. Not quite a 5 star for me since I didn't perk up with excitement at the first sip, but still very good.
Sweet and delicious
This was the first MistoBox coffee to really blow me away. The roast is slightly darker than I thought I liked, but the cup is super complex and well balanced. Curious fruits and acidity (tamarind definitely), the tannins of a nice cup of tea, and under it all a good, old-fashioned coffee richness. This one keeps your attention for the whole cup.
Sweet and relatively mild acidity for a Kenyan in my experience. Very enjoyable, though
Excellent!!! Using the formula from the Onyx website: V60-25gr of coffee to 400gr of water @ 205 degrees with a 2:30 drain time. I used a Baratza Encore grinder setting of 19. If this fits your desired flavor profile, this coffee will not disappoint.
very good. sweet but not as sweet as i was expecting. not very acidic. brewed with kalita wave with 1;14 ratio
This coffee was so fragrant! The peach came through beautifully.
