This coffee will be fresh roasted for you. We expect Thou Mayest Coffee Roasters will roast and ship this coffee in 1-2 business days depending on their roasting schedule.
The Boldly Go was carefully roasted for you by Thou Mayest Coffee Roasters. This semi-washed coffee was sourced from the growing region of Aceh in Sumatra and was produced by the various small holder producers at 1,400 meters. Boldly Go is exactly what you need for some liquid courage to "boldly go", the cup is rich with notes of dark chocolate and earthy undertones.
Very good flavor. Not as bold as I thought it would be. More medium than dark.
Makes a good cup of coffee but the aroma is not the best. Another coffee that may be best with a slightly darker roast.
nice strong flavor.
Good cup. Not too bold.
Ok a little too bent for me
Not as dark as I would have liked, but decent.
Brewed: burr grinder, course setting; French Press
Taste: Super well balanced. Noticeable acidity balanced by a bold roastiness that's almost savory. I can also pick up the hints of dark chocolate
We use a Cuisinart Bur Grinder Drip machine, and this coffee was really good at the lighter setting on the grind.
Absolutely wonderful. Smooth, and full of subtle flavors which combine into a fun cup of coffee. Hard for me to figure out why I love it, but I do.
Wasn't thrilled with this blend. Didn't pair well with my creamer and didn't enjoy the acidity and saltiness that came through on this blend.
Ashlynn Rickord and
Fantastic aroma and flavor profile. Is great for making iced coffee.
Has a beautiful raspberry-like aroma when grounded.
Bitter. Burnt flavor.
Really like the richness and sweet aftertaste from this one.
The earthy descriptor fits, and between this one and the earthy Sumatras we'd previously received from Parisi and Mela, I think that's really emerging as a favorite flavor note. The smokiness of the Caffe Vita Queen City kinda accomplished the same thing as well for us.
Smooth, nice rich taste
Definitely a dark chocolate flavor, but its a of an earthy flavor. It's good and different, but not terrific.
Not bold enough for my taste, more like a medium roast. Good notes and I usually love anything from Aceh.
Liked it , bold but not bitter
Deep chocolate notes are soooo good.
Did not like the flavors at all
I like it, but not as exciting as some of the others I have really liked.
Awesome bought 5 lb
A very solid but not particularly special medium-body coffee. Was expecting a bit “Bolder” given the name and description, though it’s certainly not super light.
Good flavors, extremely drinkable. Had no problems dialing it in on my grinder, nothing amazing but very sippable.
Enjoyed this one - the body and warmth worked well for my French press. Next time, I'd enjoy something a bit less earthy and a little cooler - blueberries and chocolate, perhaps?
I love it❤️❤️❤️
Good flavor, missing something to make a 5 though
Didnt pick up much chocolate on this one. Acidic kick to it.
Might be too earthy for my taste. There's a dull bitter note at the end that I don't like because it leaves a bad after taste in my mouth. I had to add a lot of oat milk to make this palatable. I'm not getting the chocolate notes at all. I will give this another shot, but so far I'm not impressed.
Best one so far slightly nutty but bold and not burnt tasting. Good flavor and strength.
Very rich and smooth
Well rounded stout morning sipper
Really enjoyed this coffee
Has the same flavor as the last one that I don’t like.
This coffee has a strong acidity that I’m not used to in a dark roast bean. I’m not a fan of acidity in coffee.
Really liked this coffee while listed as bold was medium roast and very smooth. Great coffee!
Earthy and chocolate notes are wonderful. Not as bod as I'd hoped, but still an excellent cup!
another winner, on the bold side
not bold ..not chocolate
I loved the Star Trek spin here. Good coffee.
Smooth with a very nice finish. Good balance of earthy and chocolate. Great cup!
Not much flavor or body. I needed to brew it strong to get much out of it.
Loved this coffee!
Pretty good overall. Starting to think maybe I should go with something darker.
Pretty good with Aeropress, but just Ok in the Jura at work.
Enjoyed the taste notes
i did not like this one much. It leaves a strange bitter after taste like its burnt. Not smooth at all.
It didn’t matter which brewing process i used with this one it just kept turing out plan and boring with no strong tasting notes.
Oily and kinda bitter. Didn't like this one. Shared with father in law and he agreed.
Pretty good, but there's a kind of fruit-like sourness (not the kind of brightness of a light roast, more pear-like) that I personally don't much enjoy.
(Sorry, I'm not great at describing flavors.)
I do not like this one. I don't really get the flavors mentioned, maybe earthy. It is slightly sour and acidic. Overall just not very good.
Very smooth and flavorful.
First coffee in a while where I can taste distinct chocolaty notes. Very flavorful coffee without getting lost in the "bold" flavors that make some of these bold/darker coffees all taste the same.
Pretty good, full bold flavor and excellent roast on the beans.
Did not like. Not enough flavor. Still liked the Dillanos DCR the best
My favorite coffee so far!!!
Probably the most flavorful with least amount of sour I've had from a medium roast.
Enjoyed the full flavor
This was a wonderful coffee for late fall/early winter. It has a warming quality and the dark chocolate and earthy notes are perfect.
Really balanced and makes a great cup.
This coffee does not brew up well at all. It's as if the beans just can not hold up and I end up with a muddy cup of coffee. I've tried espresso machine, French Press, V-60, and Clever. With poor results.
I did not like this coffee. It tasted to acidy for me. The actual coffee flavour felt muted behind an initial sour taste.
Not my favorite thus far.
It was alright, but a bit darker than I'd like and I think I prefer fruitier/more chocolate notes. I enjoyed trying it though!
Earthy tones were prevalent. I didn't get a huge taste of chocolate, which is fine for me.
Smelled offputting and tasted funky -- too earthy.
My favorite of all I've tried. Loved the boldness, but not bitter, smooth and enjoyable made pour-over and served black.
I liked this coffee but it only really went well off a drip cone and felt like a cup that felt right as an evening coffee.
Very smooth drinking, no harshness/acidity. Definitely taste the Chocolate undertones. Not a unique flavor profile but an excellent cup of coffee.
I love Thou Mayest coffee, having received a bag from you while I was reading East of Eden by Steinbeck from which "Thou Mayest" expression was drawn. Great coffee
Tasted kind of burnt.
If this coffee was less earthy I think it would be better. For some reason with every sip, it felt like it kept trying to be bolder and more chocolaty but never got there.
One of our favorites from MBox. Just a good classic dark roast.
Not a fan at all
The ultimate chocolate experience.
Very earthy, wasn't a huge fan
On paper, this sounds like the perfect coffee for me. The flavor note I picked up from this was almost unsweetened chocolate. Good, but just a little bitter.
Much better with plenty of milk (the way I usually drink coffee) than black, and delicious with just a pinch of sugar. With a pinch of sugar, this is 4.5 - 5 stars - in my top 5 for sure.
This coffee is really a 4.5 star brew as I am really enjoying the rich and robust flavor - "Bold" as noted in the description. I will be adding this to my Brew Queue in the near future.
I don't know. Not enough body. too acidic and citrusy. Maybe mixing poorly with my new medication, but meh.
a little too bold for my taste.
Loved the dark chocolate flavors here!
My wife and I thought it was as good as any coffee we have ever tasted!
Weak. No flavor.
This was a good change of pace and I enjoyed it, but it was a little darker and more earthy then I usually like. I enjoy this type of coffee occasionally, but wouldn't want it all the time.
Not a big fan of the "earthy" blend. To my wife it had a strange "root vegetable" taste. I didn't get that at all but still wasn't my favorite.
We lived in KC for 4 years and grew quite accustomed to Thou Mayest! The Boldly Go blend is a dark, rich, nutty cup of coffee that was a nice change of flavor for us. Not our favorite, but not bad either!
This was a fantastic espresso. Really rich and had a lot of depth of flavor.
A little too earthy
I really enjoyed this blend. Bold yet balanced this coffee hits all the right notes. A nice coffee with which to start the day.
Great coffee. The last two before this one were OK, but this one is exactly what I like.
Eh, wasn’t over the moon for this one. The design and marketing language is enticing but the brew fell flat on taste. Good aroma but weak taste.
A really Unique coffee - one of the best ones we've had
Too acidic for my tastes
Wonderful coffee.....just the way I like it.
Has that note I don't like
I especially enjoyed the earthy flavor of this coffee and the subsequent shipment. Great bold flavor.
This was great! Haven't found a bad roast yet from Thou Mayest!
Amazing. This is the taste I’ve been looking for in a coffee. The bold, earthy flavor is delicious, and the coffee just leaves you feeling warm. Couldn’t pick up on the chocolate notes particularly well, but the flavor works regardless.
Did not enjoy this coffee as much as the first shipment.
Insane. Best cup of coffe.
Very good !!
My favorite coffee so far. Very rich and tasty.
Too earthy for my taste.
Delicious. Great flavor, wonderful latte.
This coffee so far has a definite taste, which is sometimes non-existent with other coffees. I do get the earthy flavor and the chocolate, the latter of which are my favorite flavor notes!
great stuff loved the smoky taste
Not a fan. Too bold for my taste. No discernible flavors for my palate. I generally like a lighter roast.
Great cup of coffee. I enjoyed this coffee a lot. I enjoyed how bold it was, yet very balanced. It had a very smooth earthy finish. Would definitely buy this coffee again.
Nice . Notes very clear. I liked it very much
always a favorite
This hit the spot perfectly maybe because of the chilly weather but so well balanced. Silky, flavorful, dark but not burnt. Delicious as a cappuccino.
Bold but lacked nuance/flavor
Extremely smooth and uniquely earthy. Love this.
not bad. earthy but bright, but also a little bitter / sour. probably would not purchase (again).
Good taste, but almost too strong to drink more than a cup. I like the wake up feel of bold coffees, but this one gave me about 15% more energy than I would want.
rich deep chocolate flavor. first time having a roast from sumatra but was great. can be a little too dark if not brewed correctly.
Good cup of coffee, nice and rich and a solid dark blend. However the notes of dark chocolate aren't as apparent as I was expecting, and the coffee is slightly more bitter than what I'm used to.
Like a toasted marshmallow without the burnt bits! A stunning Sumatra, and an equally stunning medium roast.
LOVE this one! I loved this one more than the first :)
not bad. earthy but bright, but also a little bitter / sour. probably would not purchase (again).
Very full bodied roast. I appreciate the boldness of it but feel I want something more fruity and less HEAVY chocolate.
I love it. Perfectly balanced and smooth all the way down.
I liked this one, too, but not quite as much as the first one. I think the other had more complex flavors. This is good, but more one-note, if that makes sense.
A bit sour; toasted taste, just OK
Too dark for me, but smells amazing fresh out of my grinder.
I thought this coffee was excellent. Not as strong as the description indicated (which was good), it had a complex flavor without being too strong or burnt tasting.
I was honestly worried about this brew at first given the tasting notes... I typically like more "bright" floral and citrus coffees, especially from Africa. This was pleasantly surprising though. The "bold" flavor was very accessible and I still found brighter notes.
Still really like this one. Excellent coffee.
I was worried this would have been too bold(which I am not always a fan of), but the flavor was great and the coffee smooth. My wife and I have almost finished the bag. We will probably be done by Tuesday.
Very earthy, I like this one!
Even though it didn't look like the beans were burnt, it definitely did taste like it to my friends and me.
I'm not a fan of earthy flavors. Would much prefer citrus-y flavors. My favorites have been Ethiopia beans.
Still a bit more acidic than I care for, but nothing I wouldn't buy and drink anyways just to have.
Very smooth with distinct flavors. Great cup of joe.
Very good! I don't think it's as bold as described, but still a good cup! Definitely can taste the "earthy" flavors without it being too overpowering. Felt it was smooth & easy to drink.
I just don't prefer sumatra
Was not a big fan of this one. Flavors fell flat.
Great coffee. Needed to be brewed a bit stronger than others but all around good cup
We thought this coffee didn't have an interesting flavor profile at all... also a little darker than we like
Sadly, I think this is the first coffee that I've gotten with my subscription that I've been disappointed by. It did help confirm that Sumatra is my least favorite coffee region in terms of the flavor profile.
This coffee is alright but nothing to write home about. You're hit right off the bat with strong, earthy undertones. These tasting notes fall more on the side of overpowering burnt/darker roast than pleasant and well balanced though. The aftertaste is the coffee's strong point, with lingering and sweeter dark chocolate, attempting to counter the rest of the coffee's profile.
Beautiful packaging though!
Rich roast with a smooth chocolatey flavor and mouthfeel. It has some nice complexity that helps you get going in the morning.
I used this for my cold brew coffee sock. Really fantastic! It really softened the earthy undertones which my palette can be sensitive too. I really enjoyed this black.
I liked it
Thought it was very smooth, with a great taste!
I was not very impressed this coffee very papery taste and all around just an OK blend.
This coffee is really good! I didn't enjoy it as much as my last coffee though. It was darker with a bit of a burnt or roasty flavor to it. Definitely a lot of dark chocolate too. The beans were darker than I typically enjoy. Full bodied dark chocolate is how I would describe it. Although I do think this is a great coffee, it is not one that I prefer. I also have never seen a coffee bloom like this one does during the wetting stage. I've had to let it bloom longer than I typically do.
a good, strong coffee. excellent for waking up in the morning or with cheesecake or Tiramisu for dessert
this was a very satisfying coffee. smoother than expected from the name and flavorful.
A good coffee. Not as satisfying as some. Tripped up by the "Boldly Go" name, as I expected something nearer a dark roast, which it's not. Is that legal? To call it "boldly" when it isn't all that bold? (7.29) LIked it better. Upped to 5 stars.
Maybe I haven't dialed this one in properly, but I'm finding this one a bit bitter.
Maybe a little darker than preferred, the beans grinded a little too easily, but a decent cup.
This coffee gets you at the minute you grind it. Rich and dark chocolate are spot on descriptions. No bitterness. Delicious.
Easily the WORST coffee we've received so far.
Nice earthiness with a touch of chocolate flavour - more noticeable [chocolate flavor] as the coffee cools. Medium richness. Would prefer more richness but otherwise a nice coffee.
Disappointed. Coffee seemed a bit harsh to us.
This is my favorite coffee so far and it tastes great no matter how it's made. I will be buying from this brand again.
Amazing! we love this one
This has been our favorite so far. Perfectly balanced. Strong but not overpowering. Very rich, earthy taste. Love it!
The idea of Boldly Go appealed to me, but the reality disappointed. The dark roast is earthy and bold, certainly; it is also sour on the finish, and overly bitter, even when brewed via careful pour-over in a chemex, and hand-ground with a Hario burr grinder. I wouldn't buy this again, but it's at least drinkable.
Good. Still a little too acidic
Very earthy without being bold. Mediocre at best.
My favorite so far, smooth, tasty, great texture. It did not get here until the 22nd, which was frustrating, but things should be on track now.
Moving rapidly to acid note after brewing
I would describe this as more of a light roast. Lots of citrus but not much dark chocolate.
Good but fairly different from the last batch - I think I preferred the first batch as it seemed a little brighter. This is a bit on the earthy side - almost "savory" if that makes sense? I prefer a little more balance and fruity notes I think
I brew in a chemex which I
Something is missing here. It tastes weak - like there's more flavor in there that hasn't been fully realized by the roast.
I switched to making cold brew coffee recently and this one tastes amazing as cold brew!
I really loved this one. It was rich and smooth and perfect for cold mornings.
A bit to earthy
PERFECT IN EVERY WAY. PERFECT for am, PERFECT for after dinner.
Too bold? Both times I've made it, it seemed too strong, overpowering.
A very earthy and bold taste that is still very pronounced under layers of milk. I've made this as espresso shots and as pourover, and both taste great.
