This coffee will be fresh roasted for you. We expect Parisi Artisan Coffee will roast and ship this coffee in 1-2 business days depending on their roasting schedule.
The Costa Rica El Bosque was carefully roasted for you by Parisi Artisan Coffee. This fully washed coffee was grown in the Tarrazu region of Costa Rica at 1,700 meters above sea level. We love this coffee for its nuanced notes of baked apples with cinnamon and toasted hazelnut.
Notes were very distant, with a bitter aftertaste. I could not find a roast date, and the bag could not be sealed.
I didn't really like this one, tasted more like a dark roast. Which is totally not my thing...
Three of us tried this over two days, kalita pour over. We started at 200 degrees with a medium grind at a 10:1 ratio. We got very little taste except for some roasting burn. Then we tried messing with the ratio, increasing temp, finer grind. Only at 202 degrees at an 8:1 ratio were we able to get some flavor out of these beans. But at a cost: it was harsh tasting. I think others have enjoyed this coffee, so did we get a bad batch? I would question my individual judgement, but after two days with three people, we did our best!
Thank you very good. Love the nutty flavor. The less floral and fruity the better for me. I like earthy, bold and nutty.
When I brew this in my aeropress, it tastes really sweet and chocolatey.
very dark roasted
A little weak when done via pour-over, this coffee really shines in a French press, where the baked apple flavor comes out strongly. No matter how I prepared it, I never tasted the toasted hazelnut finish.
Usually enjoy Costa Rican coffees, but this had too much of a acidic taste that overshadowed any nutty or chocolate flavors. Tried Chemex, V60, French Press, and Aeropress. Couldn't dial in any of them to get a good cup.
I'm reviewing this a week or so after finishing the bag, so it's not too fresh in my mind. I would say this roast was a bit darker than I tend to prefer. I did get a bit of the more savory flavors outlined above, but, at least from my brews, I would not describe this coffee as very 'complex'. To me the coffee had a slightly savory flavor with a clean finish and no flavors lingering on the palate. I brewed it using french press and chemex and did not notice much of a difference between brew methods. While this coffee was good (no off flavors or bitterness), it wasn't really up my alley for the flavor profile.
This didnt do it for me. Flavors were very muted. Tasted similar to the bulk Coffee Bean blend they have at Costcowhich is sold at a fraction of the cost
Didn't make for a bad cup. Brewed well from The Aeropress, to the Beehouse, to the V60. Great compliment to some apple cider donuts but I wasn't totally crazy for the nutty finish.
I enjoyed this coffee. This is right in line with what I like in coffee. The notes were subtle but good. Thanks!
Did not enjoy this bean. Found the cup of coffee to be oily, lacking nuance, and had somewhat of a burnt taste that I couldn't get past. Tried it through both a V60 and an aeropress and though the aeropress was aggressive and heavy.
This was great! Very smooth with just a little hint of fruit. Thinking this pairs well with chocolate.
A little too dark on the roast for my taste, may be better in french press or moka pot as suggested on the bag. I normally brew a V60 or Chemex.
This coffee had a really nice, full body to it, something I really like in a coffee. Any darker than the medium roast and I don't think I would have liked it as much, as I tend to gravitate to lighter roasts. It definitely had nice notes of apple and cinnamon which is great for the fall.
Good coffee but it doesnt have a lot of real flavors that come through to me.
Kind of neural about it. Did not notice anything special about it. We were looking for pronounced flavor
It is a good cup however I do believe that some of the flavors where missing from it, however all and all good cup, very subtle and smooth
A little too weak and subtle compared to our usual preferences - flavor/notes were not as pronounced as the beans we usually get from CounterCulture
really good! really nice all around. thank you.
Tasty, smooth, delightful, it was everything I wanted in a cup. It had notes of flavor and hints of coffee-ness with overtones of cheer.
Excellent cup of coffee, great balance of a very structured sweetness and acidity paired with a heavy but velvety mouthfeel
Would be a 5* with some fruit
Nice rich body with a great fruit aftertaste. Wasn't too light or too heavy. Smooth acidity and well rounded.
I really liked this coffee, but I wish it was a bit stronger, even when I doubled my bean weight, it still wasn't as strong as I'd prefer. This coffee smells amazing and is very smooth.
This coffee was really good. Definitely better than most other coffee I've tried. The baked apple taste at the end is definitely noticeable. I think for this first review I'm going to give this a 3 just so I can have a baseline for the other coffee. This was definitely great coffee though.
Very good. I was pleased that this coffee was a bit on the dark side, and it was not sweet as I had feared it was going to be. It tasted more spicy than sweet and it, again, was very good.
Overall this roast is quite pleasant and very drinkable. Using the Aeropress I found the flavor to be a mellow nutty bitterness with a hint of brighter fruitiness. The Chemex and Hario V60 also produced a very nice cup of coffee but accentuated the brighter notes more so than the Aeropress. The body of the coffee is on the thinner side.
Smooth and delicious, and that's just the beginning.
I give it 5-6 on a 1-10 scale. It was good, just a little to light. But that may have. Been because I didn't grind it enough. It was more grainy oppose to powdery when I pressed it.
THIS WAS A GREAT CUP OF COFFEE.
Great taste. Definitely tasted the apple and cinnamon.
I've started to appreciate this coffee much more since I got more methodical about my brewing method. I'm using a Clever brewer and am getting very consistent cups of coffee. I'm not sure if it's fair to say that this is on the lighter side in body because it has a nice bitterness and acidity, but also nice caramel and fruit notes. It's not darkly roasted, which is good. Will totally enjoy another shipment of this in the future.
Great choice. Loved all the subtle undertones.
smooth and easy to drink, love the notes of it. The roast was a ted too dark for me.
Light taste that packs a punch. Sweet aroma with a hint of chocolate. Great cup of joe
Not sure why, but the word that comes to mind drinking a cup is "piney" or "pine" flavored. It is not a flavor profile I typically drink but not bad.
I like it. VERY smooth. The scent is incredible. Not heavy. Will definitely purchase thisone again!
this coffee was a little difficult to get just right, but once i did it was delicious! chemex was better than v60, but the v60 still brought out some of the chocolate notes along with the nutty, toasted flavors.
Good coffee but for me I didn't find it mind blowing.
In a poll taken by my house, 1 said "I haven't really thought about it since we moved to the next bag." Another said, "I don't remember it." I, on the other hand, felt that this coffee was a nice, smooth, on-the-darker-side roast that went beautifully in a french press. However, my preferred method is a pour over and I felt it was a bit lacking there. Great for a french press, great for espresso as well, not so much if you're looking for a more airy or "creme de la creme" coffee.
I would rate this at dark roast rather than medium. As such, it's fine
My wife and I really enjoyed this coffee. Very smooth, especially in the chemex.
An OK but pretty forgettable coffee. Definitely doesn't seem like an "exclusive tier" coffee where "the best of the best" is the expectation. A fair amount of sweetness, pretty muted acidity. Also, Parisi....(entering full snob mode) I know I'm not supposed to judge a book by it's cover...but... Probably the busiest and most patronizing bag I've ever seen - it has enough words and pictures on it to fill a dr seuss book, yet LEAVES OFF THE ROAST DATE??.. and instead puts what I'm assuming is an expiration date that's like a year from now. Mistobox, you kiddin me with this? Don't send me ("exclusive tier") coffee from roasters who put buzz words like "Single Origin" as the focal point of the bag and don't bother to put the roast date.
This coffee was very good. Slightly less bold than our usual taste but we could definitely pick out the apple flavor, which was very good.
This is a new experience for me, never thought id be tasting apples in my coffee. Its kind of like dried apples, or apple chips ,altho its a bit tart, its forgiving. this is a new area of coffee for me. its quite good.
Not "bold" enough. To much "tang" and to light.
A lovely, everyday coffee.
medium roast, had to grind very fine to try to get it dark enough to my liking. Says it has a light apple note to the taste, in which I don't care much for 'fruity" taste. Mostly smooth but has a slight bitter taste
The Costa Rica El Bosque tasted great! Except for the fact that I tend to like floral and fruity notes better in my cup of coffee. Nonetheless, the coffee tasted clean and good when brewed on a v60. Thanks Seth!
Seemed very one dimensional. Not personally a fan of this one.
Not a dark roast as I ordered. Too sweet and floral tasting for my liking. I would not order again. Not a good cup of coffee to wake up to.
This was a very good coffee a little more acidic than we normally drink and didn't quite have the wow factor we were hoping for. We normally drink more of a smoother earthier flavored coffee.
great pourover! Very fruity, very round coffe. Easy to grind
Excellent medium brew with a distinctive nutty flavor possessing enough complexity to remain interesting.
I'm rating my experience, not the coffee quality. This coffee was way too sour/tart for me. I prefer a deep, dark, rich cup. Makes sense given that it was a medium roast. I prefer dark roasts and I indicated that when I signed up. Not very happy with my first personalized experience.
*Update on review: I bought a scale and used that to measure everything for brewing while still using the Chemex- it made a huge difference. I really enjoyed this mornings cup. Definitely tasted the hint of apple and cinnamon.
Not too bad. I'm getting a sour taste, but it may be because it's my first time using a Chemex as well. Once I get the method down and practice a little more I may come back and update the review on the coffee.
Incredible coffee one of my new favorites. Great aroma, great flavor, great balance.
Delicious and rounded
Great flavor, I really enjoyed each cup. Brewed through a French press.
Tasty and slightly spiced Costa Rican coffee. I enjoyed this bag a lot, and it opened my eyes to the flavors of Costa Rica. Central America always seems earthy, but I didn't find it overpowering in this one. Spicy in a good way.
Too fruity, tasted a little tart. Bloom was under average
decently mellow, less of the more subtle flavor highlights came through on chemex/H60 brew methods.
A very smooth, flavorful cup of coffee. Fruity, yet honest coffee flavor.
Light on mouth-feel and flavor. Quite a bit of nuttiness, depending on the brew method. The more subtle flavors of apple stand out more with fruity accompaniments. Good quality beans with a consistent roast.
Has a good taste. Is more on the lighter end
Another bag of excellent coffee! I really enjoyed this one and the sweet yet also savory notes it exhibits.
Pretty good, if a bit mild--it had a hint of spice and a nice sweetness. Maybe a HINT of the nuttiness they mention? Overall a balanced, if unremarkable cup.
I really enjoyed the nutty aroma and the hint of fruit at the end of its taste.
Good medium roast, but not a fan of the apple notes.
Love the profile from this brew!
So rich and delicious. I would definitely purchase more of this in the future.
Pretty good breakfast coffee. Again, not overly powerful flavor wise, but no problem going through it quickly!
I have to say that this coffee tastes really good when I make it in the French press. Much better than in the Chemex or Hario V60. I enjoyed it very much.
I liked this. 3.5 stars, probably. It was a little bitter/acidic I think, but adding a bit of cream helped. The bitterness may have also been due to my lack of scale to get the right coffee/water ratio when brewing. I used a french press. Will try a pourover tomorrow. It probably sounds weird, but it seemed to smell a bit "meaty". I am not really sure how to explain it. Not a bad thing though.
I wish there was more flavor. Overall, it was super smooth but it felt like it was lacking a little bit of punch. The tasting notes weren't wrong, they just weren't very prevalent. I tend to like more floral and brighter coffees
This is not to my taste. I'm not a fan of coffee with nutty flavors, which this one has in abundance.
I really liked this coffee! My palate isn't so wonderful, so forgive me if what I'm saying here makes no sense... This coffee tasted a bit sweet (?) to me, a tad more than I think I like. Not sure if that's possible, but there you have it! BTW- I don't know if it'll help, but my brewing method at home is Aeropress. I'll occasionally use a french press, but I've been solidly in the Aeropress camp for some time now and appreciate the convenience and taste of the coffee. Thanks so much for all your help, I LOVE mistobox so far!!!
This one was a little subtle. I still liked it. Beats Peet's.
Susan loves it. I haven't tried it yet.
Coffee was not bad, maybe just not as closely aligned to my personal tastes. I picked up sour notes and the apple taste was present, but closer to overly ripe or dried apples or raisins. Generally I prefer either lighter coffees with brighter grape, melon, lemon or orange notes or medium/darker coffees with nutty or cocoa flavors. To each his own though. Love the misto box concept! It was a great gift for Christmas.
Brews a good, bright cup. Fruity and acidic, with a light nutty tone and a vaguely earthy yet clean aftertaste.I agree with the recommended method of a pour over, as when using other methods it either loses much of its fruity tones (drip brew) or is overly acidic when used with an Aeropress.
Nice flavor. Not too mild or harsh. Great coffee to start the day or to enjoy in the afternoon.
