This coffee will be fresh roasted for you. We expect Halfwit Coffee Roasters will roast and ship this coffee in 1-2 business days depending on their roasting schedule.
This is the Moonbat Blend brought to you by Halfwit Coffee Roasters. For the Moonbat Blend, Halfwit combines coffees that are approachable and sweet, with just enough liveliness to keep things interesting. Seasonally updated like the rest of their offerings, this version of Moonbat is a blend of thirds, with coffees from Papua New Guinea, Guatemala, and Costa Rica. This coffee is balanced with notes of of dark chocolate, baking spices, and black cherry.
We liked this one. It was a smooth cup this nothing offensive about it, making it a nice morning cup. I was less interested in this as an afternoon cup as it had no specific flavor that stood out to me.
Very nice. A bit of Sweetness, with good balance of dry chocolates, with mild acidity that didn’t linger.
I enjoyed this coffee a lot. It wasn't acidic and felt full bodied.
Not bad, but one of my least favorites so far. A bit darker than I expected.
Rich and smooth.
excellent! loves the balance of this coffee.
i like it- my style! almost "syrupy" sweet without being sugary sweet.b Love the dark chocolate
good balnace of richness and smoothness
The aroma of this coffee is spectacular. I was unable to get the chocolate taste, but I was easily able to pick up on the baking spices. Good coffee, would drink again.
Great for v60 pour over (I tried it with aeropress as well) the chocolate and black cherry flavors are delicate and distinct. I really enjoyed it. Bonus that it's from sweet home Chicago!

Love it! Would like to try more from this roaster!
This is a really delicious coffee, full bodied and very flavorful.
I couldn't put my finger on exactly why but this one just didn't do it for me. I found myself drinking it and making it for my wife just to move on to the next coffee in my queue.
Too acidic for me.
Too dark and balanced for me. I think I would prefer something a bit more bright and lively.
This has been our favorite coffee so far. Please send us more like it.
A little too bitter
It was ok. The smell was good but the flavor did not match up and was a little weak.
Nice, smooth low acid coffee. Medium mouthfeel. Flavors of chocolate, hazel nut and baking spice.
Nice balance of chocolate and spice.
My husband hated the flavor of this. But he gave no indicated of why.
Love -- deep and delicious!
A little too weak and bland for my taste. Tried brewing with an aeropress and a pourover...but results were the same. Not a bad coffee, just not as strong or flavorful as I'm used to.
Smooth, well rounded flavors. The blend of the different beans works wonderfully!
A bit dark for my tastes
Nice, balanced coffee. Dark chocolate and berry flavors are right up-front.
This just was a miss. It has a strong acidic taste for us. Kind of smoky too.
I would rate the Moonbat Blend at about a 3.75, not quite a 4. This coffee was very smooth with nice lingering flavor but may have been just a bit too much on the fruity side for me, the taste of cherry is was what I immediately noticed which wasn't bad at all. Just not an every day coffee for me, more of an after dinner dessert type IMO.
Yum!!! Got this coffee again and it is off the charts FANTASTIC!!!!! Favorite coffee yet
Loved this blend! It was lively but sweet and smooth. No acidity whatsoever. It reminded me of the coffee served at the Palmer House in downtown Chicago. Even though the write-up mentions "baking spices", it is not dominant at all. For reference, the grind I used was "medium", brewed on the Technivorm 10-cup model, all the way open for 4:15 for 6 cups of brewed coffee.
Favorite choice of all the ones sent
Also a big fan!!!!
Meh is good descriptor. Not bold enough. Not rich enough. Flavors do not stand out.
I was a little concerned after reading the abundance of "bland" and "boring" comments, especially as I prefer bold profiles--but I actually really liked this one more than I anticipated.
It's correct that this may not be the most interesting coffee on it's own, it sure complements salty and/or fat foods (bacon and eggs!).
I am picking up prominent flavors of bakers chocolate, and a rounded sour note which is not quite lemon, but close.
Again, I'd like to voice that I would like to try some bolder, darker coffees in the future, and I'd like to steer clear of fruit & citrus if possible.
I cold brewed this coffee, and drank it cold with ice just like the last few brews of the previous coffee. At first it tastes acidic. Didn't like it in the morning. after a couple of hours, it tastes better, less acidic. Maybe because the ice melted? Flavors are ok, baking spice is interesting. Previous coffee was better, liked the chocolate flavor.
Very smooth taste and amazing aroma gfrom the beans.. my gavorite so far
This coffee was ok. It's good, but I like some of the others prior to this one better, hence only ok. It has a medium body mouthfeel and I do get the chocolate notes. But I do not pick up the spices or black cherry.
It is a little difficult to dial in a smooth brew but once you figure it out it is very rich and smooth.
This is it! I LOVED this coffee. I think the issue was definitely in the roast. The medium roast is much more to my liking than the mild roasts or light roasted coffees I was starting out with. I have given up on the drip automatic coffeemaker, because I can never achieve the same results that I get with the French Press, but maybe that is just because I am discovering that the French Press makes a better cup of coffee. :)
Good cup of coffee.
Pretty boring and nondescript coffee. Too light for my tastes, I miss all the complex oils in darker roasts. It is light and semi-sweet, a bit of acidic sour taste on the backend. It does have an interesting toasty smell before grinding, but that does not carry over into the cup.
I like this coffee but want to try to find a nuttier blend. I like the baking spice and want to avoid fruity.
Little bland, too sweet.
It was pretty good. Wasn't able to get much flavor or if it, better than the birds and bees for sure. Really interested in some light roasts.
Great great choclate notes.
Descent smooth tasting coffee. Does have the smoothness of chocolate notes. Not overwhelming or bitter tasting.
Noticed the chocolate, but it was a bit too bitter for our taste.
I liked the strong and consistent flavor of this coffee. I thought I had brewed it too strong at first, but the flavor was not overwhelming.
Overall good, but we weren't crazy about it. Found it to taste darker than we expected.
I enjoyed this one. I liked the Day tripper a little bit more thought. The beans were a little darker than I normally like but I'm willing to try different things! I don't think the coffee was really bitter or sour, but I did like the smokiness of this roast
Erin and Adrian
A little sour for my taste, didn't really pick up on the chocolate notes. Also, not a great choice for cold brew.
Our team loves the Moonbat Blend from Halfwit Coffee Roasters. Mistobox - please send more!
Extremely smooth, almost silky. Don't usually like flavors, but Loved the light chocolate in Moonbat. Prefer this lighter colored, less oily bean.
This one was as good as the last one. Great picks so far!
It's hard to give any Mistobox coffee a low rating, it's not like this is Folgers or Starbucks. But I didn't care for this coffee at all. I think it's the "baking spices" flavor profile that turns me off. There wasn't enough balance in the coffee to round out those flavors, so it has an unpleasant aftertaste.
I liked the first bag better, I want a bolder, richer coffee for my next box. This felt a little bitter and flat to me.
Loved this brew.! It has a nice natural sweetness and you can taste the hints of baking spices in the finish.
Definitely makes for a smooth, well-balanced morning cup of coffee with the V60 (following their suggested brew specs on their site). It's got a nice clean finish too.
This is my favorite yet from mistobox. It has a balanced flavor that was perfect in the morning. I enjoyed it so much that actually finishing drinking the bit of cold coffee left in the pot.
I love this coffee. It's very clean and balanced.
Really enjoying every cup of this coffee.
I found this coffee to have an appealing flavor. Didn't knock it out of the park, but made it to the wall. I look forward to drinking this coffee.
Good flavor but a bit light. Needed to use extra coffee to truly taste it.
Rounded flavor, pastry, cinnamon, nice level of acidity. Dark chocolate finish.
Good but not great - wouldn't order again
Love this coffee
Balanced. No bold flavors.
Not a bad coffee but wasn't as smooth as I would have liked. Had a somewhat bitter aftertaste.
Emily & Matt
Light but great flavor!
Love this - excellent for cold brew.
When I brewed in the coffee pot it was okay. It would probably taste better as an espresso. Not my favorite.
Good, not great. Not full bodied enough.
Out of the two that I have tried so far, this one has been in my coffee pot the most. It is well roasted and easy to pour in your cup. I don't really get the chocolate or the baking spice flavors, but it was so much more than the description. This is one that I would search out to reorder again and again.
Enjoying this coffee hot and iced!
I found it a little too fruit-flavored.
This is just coffee, nothing special for me. $19.00 on Mistobox $15.00 directly from Halfwit. I say just to to Target and buy a Starbucks blend.
This is a flavorful but not overpowering blend with a nice selection of sweet notes in the flavor.
Good flavor overall, but I found the spice blend to be a bit 'interesting'. Definitely not a flavor profile compatible with flavored coffee creams, if that's how you like it. Even a simple sweet cream flavor is too much for this. A splash of milk or unflavored cream is recommended.
Sorry my wife Ned I did not like this blend.
Really good coffee
Did not care for this one too much. It's a dark roast which we don't particularly like. Just too bold for our taste but we had a friend over that really liked it, so the bag went home with him.
One of my favorites so far!
Light but very bland. I honestly couldn't taste any favors... I probably won't finish the bag :(
Tasty, but a little light when french pressed. Definitely sweeter than I usually opt for, but not in a bad way.
I do not usually like sweet and spicy but this was not too much - just the right amount.
Best one yet. We loved it and will be going to Halfwit when we are in Chicago.
As I was pouring beans into the grinder this morning I noticed one that looked markedly different. It was a rock about the same size as a bean. Please do not include Moonbat Blend from Halfwit Coffee Roasters or anything from them again. Thank you.
This one was interesting and not bad. I think my biggest issue was that it really played up the apple pie/spice notes and I just missed them completely. I'm totally willing to admit that this is the fault of my own sad taste buds, but I felt a blend that so played up those notes would present them a bit more forward.
It was just okay. I think I really just prefer dark roasts.
Way too sweet for my taste these days. Just feels weak and not as good. Name and packaging are top notch, but actual coffee is below average to me.
This is a good dark roast coffee with a distinctive flavor that reminds me of the skin of a red grape (in a good way)., so I taste wine and some citrus.
Wasn't crazy about it at first in the drip machine, but really liked it in the Chemex. Smooth, nice spice tones.
My wife and I enjoyed this cup of coffee using our aeropress. At first the taste is smooth and creamy, but there is a strange after taste that lingers. Otherwise, we really liked it.
Wow!! What an amazing cup of coffee. I get tons of chocolate, cream and nuttiness. Highly recommend and will be picking up more when I am done
Good, not great. Tends to have a strange aftertaste. Smells great when brewed though.
This is a good coffee. I like the hints of coffee and spice. It's not too much to throw it out of balance.
Thoroughly enjoyed this one.
This is certainly a delicious cup! The acidity of the coffee is definitely more subtle, but the tastes just linger on the tongue, wishing that I had just another drop of coffee in each cup that I make!
Very complex flavors in this smooth cup of coffee. Smooth start, chocolate center, and a baking spices finish. I've rarely had a coffee change so completely from first taste to last sip. Impressive blend.
my husband and I thought it was a good mix of juicy/tart and hints of chocolate. none of the flavor notes were overpowering. smooth to drink. as the cup cooled down the bitter gave way to the juicy notes.
Very delicate one to brew correctly. Kept over extracting. But when I got it right it was great.
It was ok just had a different taste that we werent crazy about
I normally do not enjoy the chocolate taste in my coffee...however this subtle flavor of chocolate blended so well with the spices it was elegant!
This coffee was not a chocolate-y as last shipment. I love the smoothness. I had a hard time picking out the caramel flavour...maybe to many blend competing for my taste buds. Still good though.
This has been our favorite so far
Delicious but still not as much my favorite as Sugar Skull!
Thought this coffee was great. One of the better blends I've had.
Just ok. A lot of burnt, astringent notes here.
Great Coffee, I have since found others i like better, but nonetheless a great cup of joe.
Ok, I drank it but lacks the flavors I like
This is a SOLID cup! Very approachable and inviting. Smells lovely without punching you in the face with a heavy flavor profile, and the taste is as subtle, yet not underwhelming. Slight white chocolate with a creamy background. Reminds me of my favorite shirt. Makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside!
Delicious. Even if I didn't like the coffee, I'd probably still buy more just from the branding of halfwit alone.
I tend to like darker roasts, so this blend was not one of my favorites. The beans smelled a little bit like sliced apples and the color was very a very light brown. When brewed, the coffee was almost caramel in color. I thought there was a bit of an acid finish, which is not for me.
French pressed. Seems a little thin.
Was not a fan of this; I tried it French press and drip and found it to be watery and delicate.
30g Coffee 450g Water
Very delicious. The chocolate and sweet caramel notes really stick out and works wonderfully in a latte or as a black coffee.
