The Sermon Espresso was carefully roasted for you by Verve Coffee Roasters. This coffee was grown in the Minas Gerais, Cauca and Guji regions of Brazil, Colombia and Ethiopia. This coffee was grown at altitudes ranging between 1,000 - 2,000+ meters. The lots consisted of Catuai, Bourbon and Ethiopian heirloom varieties. The Sermon is Verve's fruit forward and balanced espresso, intended to have bright blueberries and tart cherries with a lingering dark chocolate finish.
I disliked this coffee very much. I don’t like fruity or flavored coffees. I don’t know how this can be considered an espresso. I prefer dark rich bold coffee. This is none of those.
My wife and I love this coffee. I am using it in my Breville espresso machine. I had to use a coarser grind, because the grounds seemed to absorb much of the water. But, it is now my favorite coffee. Well balanced, not bitter, flavorful. You guys killed it with this one.
Excellent as espresso.
It was ok but maybe would like a slightly more robust flavor. The aroma was good whole bean but after grinding it has a less pleasant aroma slightly resembling fermented fruit.
Not very strong coffee
This was my first coffee. In my coffee profile I indicated I enjoy only dark, bold roasts and espressos. I was greatly disappointed in receiving this fruity coffee. Please see the note I sent from your website.

Not impressed with this one. Too light a roast for my likings. I’m guessing if you like those flavors it would be ok. Just not for me.
Too chocolate for me

It had a great smell and a very strong flavor. The brightness of the floral was tasty compared to all the chocolate notes we have been receiving. Still not quite perfection, but getting there.

Tasting notes on the bag are on point; sweet, chocolaty and smooth (so smooth). As a cappuccino, it's like milk chocolate. Favorite so far.
Fantastic coffee. Nice as both espresso and as a strong flat white. Smooth with low bitterness.
The flavor was a bit more harsh, in your face. We tend to like smoother blends.
This one fell a little flat for me. Maybe it shines more as espresso.
Excellent for espresso, but looking for something a little more versatile for pour over. Or perhaps just switch back and forth between pourover focused and espresso focused
Amazing. Has an incredible dark taste with the chocolate notes, but still doesn't taste burnt. LOVE the blueberry pie notes in it, literally tastes like a chocolate blueberry pie. Amazing.

Very tasty and very balanced...a good safe starting point I was hoping for something even a little more bright on the palette. It arrived within a couple days of roasting which exceed my expectations positively!

We loved the Flavor profile. We would ideally rotate single origins for our kalita wave slightly more often than our espressos, but this made for a great espresso!

Solid standard espresso. Was looking forward to blueberry notes but didn’t really get them from this coffee.
Bright blueberry aroma and fruit-forward with surprisingly low acidity, medium-bodied with a mild finish. Versatile beans which go well on their own or with your favorite milk-based concoction.
Easy to dial in and consistent brew without losing too much character even towards the end of storing for three weeks.
Smooth and very well balanced with a nutty creaminess and delicious blueberry aroma. Tastes great on its own and with a little milk in a cortado.
Excellent great espresso and for the one aeropress I did it was so good. I will get this one again.
This coffee was good but not my favorite
I think this one might be a little on the dark side for us. Really want something that highlights the fruit flavor.

This coffee was great. I make make my coffee using a burr grinder and make espresso, this coffee worked out really well for that. The medium light roast was perfect, either medium light or light would be my preferences for coffee. I liked the chocolatey flavors, I didn't get much fruity flavors. It was a very balanced brew, it was very smooth to drink.
Excellent on espresso! Very tasty and full of flavor. I pulled this at a 1:2 ratio all week at a 30 second shot on my Linea Mini. Would definitely have this again

Brewed at a 1:1.5 ratio per Verve's recommendations and it came out smooth creamy and balanced.

Exactly what I was looking for! Fruity and chocolatey with a hint of tartness. (Like driving cross country). Next I'd like something a little smoother and sweeter but still relatively light.
A bit on the bitter side. A bit more acidity would be welcome.

The fruity taste really comes out. Maybe this blend is more suited for espresso. I am a newbie with espresso but it still tasted great despite my clumsy effort!
Liked this. It's a bit lighter that what we usually drink, which is what I'd been hoping for. There is nothing I didn't like about it.

Not only delicious, but I could drink it without a drop of sugar added and it wasnt bitter and I am always trying to ween myself off sugar in my coffee. =)
Nice and fruity on the front end and finishes with a pleasant dark chocolate note. The fruitiness is sweet and not overly acidic. The shots pull beautifully!
This is a blend that really shows that the roaster knows how to make an espresso shine in milk. It contains that really nice chocolatey base with a nice floral\fruity sweetness to balance it out. I only gave it 4 stars as while its a great espresso it’s not a coffee that makes me want to immediately buy another. Last summer I had a blend from Square One Coffee roasters that truly was that 5 star espresso that makes you want to order another bag. This coffee did however remain very consistent from the 1st shot to the last and only require slight grinder changes to keep the consistency. All in all this is a beautiful coffee.
Was a good cup of coffee. the dark chocolatey finish isn't my usual go to, I usually like a bright and crisper finish, but it was a good change of pace.
Overall a good coffee and it pulled well in my espresso machine but I think the "tart" cherries threw me off a little. That tartness came off a little harsh. I did get the lingering dark chocolate though.
Fresh roasted coffee beans produce the best coffee. Berries and chocolate shine. Not my normal go to flavors in coffee but being fresh is the key.
Wow, I made a latte this morning and it was one of the best cups I've had. I might even try the espresso on its own tomorrow morning, it was not bitter at all.
The coffee in on a lighter side. A but sour, not.as balanced as one would expect. Prefer something more toasted and aromatic, bolder. If someone like citrus in their coffee, this mught be the right choice.
I received my bag of Sermon about a month after purchasing my lever espresso machine. I had pushed a variety of coffee through the machine over that month, but the Sermon was the first bag of beans I tried that claimed any specific suitability for espresso. The results were delightful, but I must confess that my improving technique may have had as much to do with that as the Sermon.
We did try brewing a couple cups of coffee with the blend and the results were good, but not quite what was expected given the merits of the espresso. We should really give it another shot, but I'm hoarding the stuff for espresso.
Forgive me for skipping proper tasting notes. We're new to all this and any mention of fruit from the likes of us would be hyperbole indeed.
We're going to try a darker espresso next time, in part to see if Jess prefers it in her cappuccino, even though she's been quite content with the Sermon. We'll see. We may come running back to a medium roast.
A very "even" espresso right away. Had to adjust my tamping and does amount to get it right.
I found the flavor to be more singular with suttle hints. I guess that's what balanced means. This can be one of my go to beans.
I could handle a bit more depth.

It was full bodied and yummy however I am not a fan of chocolate notes I tend to like lighter fruitier coffee
It produced a nice amount of crema. Not quite as chocolatey as I would like, but still a very good blend.
Good daily driver. You can taste the berries but doesn't have an overwhelming tartness. Remains balanced with milk. The dark chocolate really stands out and tops this coffee off well.
I don't know quite what I was expecting with the Sermon Espresso. My tendency was to stay with the more chocolatey overtones of a Hayes Valley Espresso or the Herkimer Espresso. My primary morning drink is always a flat white and those two in particular cut through milk very well.
I have been more than happy with Samantha's first recommendation. Well balanced, still chocolatey, but not with such a heavy overtoan. Is a really pretty poor, and I tend to stay around 202 degrees. The roast date was the day before it shipped.
This coffee is very smooth. I enjoyed it very much.

Definitely fruity and light. I varied the grind and brew temp but could not get a thick crema from this particular roast out of 2 different machines. I think it is a good roast for those who like a lighter espresso shot.

This is a very good coffee and I enjoyed it very much. Is this considered a medium coffee, leaning towards darker? Perhaps due to the way we've been brewing (pour over) it has a darker, more syrupy taste to my unrefined palate. (Could be on our end.) Do you have any brewing tips for us? We tried it with the french press this morning and it was very good.
marvelous blend with a very nice crema. A strong bold base with fruity after taste. No sugar needed would gladly drink again and again and again.
Good coffee. Slightly brighter than what I'm accustomed to having, but was a welcome change of pace. Lighter mouthfeel too. I preferred the full bodied, less bright, chocolate flavor of my first shipment, but I enjoyed trying Verve's Sermon.
I'm really enjoying this espresso! It's true to its description of "balanced". The fruit flavor is not as strong and I get a definite chocolate after taste. I typically drink cappuccinos and I do enjoy the taste of this with milk. Overall great coffee.
not the biggest fan of fruity flavor coffee but overall not bad
A delicious, very fruit forward espresso. I could certainly taste the chocolate finish, which was my favorite part.The reason I took away 1 star was that my girlfriend and I do like the occasional milk-drink, such as a cappunicco or an iced horchata latte, and the fruit's slight sour behaviour, in my opinion, did not sit quite right with milk drinks.If I am only having it as straight espresso or an americano, it is delicious. But I do wish I could make milk drinks with it.
Hm, didn't get any blueberries, but there's definitely a fruit component. A hint of cherry chocolate. I liked it best after a couple weeks. The bright notes seemed to have mellowed out a little. My latest shots were sweet, complex, with a syrupy mouthfeel. Not my favorite overall, but not bad.
Definitively better than Streetlevel. More complex, rich and consistent. Still nowhere near an ideal espresso for me, but I like the texture and subtle fruit notes.

Very chocolatey and fruity. I found this very flavorful and enjoyable.
17.8g in/ 28.5-31 g out. At 200F. About a 28-30 second extraction. Extremely well balanced but deceptive. On the nose it smells like a rich, dark chocolate syrup. On the palette it shifts to tart stone fruits and gives way to blueberries and cream. Very easy to dial in and very easy to enjoy. Highly recommend this espresso.
I loved this! It was smooth, creamy, not watery at all. Had some chocolate but not overwhelmingly sweet. Great taste!
Decent flavored beans with some good complexity. Probably didn't enjoy it as much as my tastes have shifted away from Espresso roasts.

Very much liked the hint of fruits
I was surprised that the description for these beans said that blueberry is a predominate flavor and even more shocked by the fact that it was entirely accurate. This made for some really excellent espresso drinks both hot and iced and was a huge hit with my wife and friends. I'll be adding this to the list of espressos to order in the future!
