Description
The Boldly Go was carefully roasted for you by Thou Mayest Coffee Roasters. This semi-washed coffee was sourced from the growing region of Aceh in Sumatra and was produced by the various small holder producers at 1,400 meters. Boldly Go is exactly what you need for some liquid courage to "boldly go", the cup is rich with notes of dark chocolate and earthy undertones.

The earthy descriptor fits, and between this one and the earthy Sumatras we'd previously received from Parisi and Mela, I think that's really emerging as a favorite flavor note. The smokiness of the Caffe Vita Queen City kinda accomplished the same thing as well for us.

Might be too earthy for my taste. There's a dull bitter note at the end that I don't like because it leaves a bad after taste in my mouth. I had to add a lot of oat milk to make this palatable. I'm not getting the chocolate notes at all. I will give this another shot, but so far I'm not impressed.

This coffee does not brew up well at all. It's as if the beans just can not hold up and I end up with a muddy cup of coffee. I've tried espresso machine, French Press, V-60, and Clever. With poor results.

On paper, this sounds like the perfect coffee for me. The flavor note I picked up from this was almost unsweetened chocolate. Good, but just a little bitter.
Much better with plenty of milk (the way I usually drink coffee) than black, and delicious with just a pinch of sugar. With a pinch of sugar, this is 4.5 - 5 stars - in my top 5 for sure.

This coffee is really a 4.5 star brew as I am really enjoying the rich and robust flavor - "Bold" as noted in the description. I will be adding this to my Brew Queue in the near future.

We lived in KC for 4 years and grew quite accustomed to Thou Mayest! The Boldly Go blend is a dark, rich, nutty cup of coffee that was a nice change of flavor for us. Not our favorite, but not bad either!

Amazing. This is the taste I’ve been looking for in a coffee. The bold, earthy flavor is delicious, and the coffee just leaves you feeling warm. Couldn’t pick up on the chocolate notes particularly well, but the flavor works regardless.

I was honestly worried about this brew at first given the tasting notes... I typically like more "bright" floral and citrus coffees, especially from Africa. This was pleasantly surprising though. The "bold" flavor was very accessible and I still found brighter notes.

Sadly, I think this is the first coffee that I've gotten with my subscription that I've been disappointed by. It did help confirm that Sumatra is my least favorite coffee region in terms of the flavor profile.

This coffee is really good! I didn't enjoy it as much as my last coffee though. It was darker with a bit of a burnt or roasty flavor to it. Definitely a lot of dark chocolate too. The beans were darker than I typically enjoy. Full bodied dark chocolate is how I would describe it. Although I do think this is a great coffee, it is not one that I prefer. I also have never seen a coffee bloom like this one does during the wetting stage. I've had to let it bloom longer than I typically do.

The idea of Boldly Go appealed to me, but the reality disappointed. The dark roast is earthy and bold, certainly; it is also sour on the finish, and overly bitter, even when brewed via careful pour-over in a chemex, and hand-ground with a Hario burr grinder. I wouldn't buy this again, but it's at least drinkable.
