Colin
Yet another utterly disgusting product from Higher Grounds. I don't think anything beyond medium roast should exist in the craft coffee world, and would prefer a curator with similar sentiments.
10/15/2022

Yuriy
its not bad, but cant taste the different notes well.
9/4/2022

Emily
Yum! Tastes like what good coffee should.
5/21/2022

sam
Super
1/28/2022

Ralph
Rich, full-bodied flavor that had perfect (low) acidity. The nutty notes gave this coffee a great finish. In the top 5 coffees I have had so far from Mistobox
12/18/2021

Katherine
Not enough caffeine.
3/22/2021

Michael
was ok, seemed light and could not pick up on the hazelnut
2/22/2021

Emily
Little bit bitter and not as smooth as others
2/10/2021

Connor
love the nutty flavor
2/10/2021

Allyse
I tried it because I had never had a bolivian coffee before, but it tasted very generic to me in both the french press and drip methods, nothing exceptional about it
2/8/2021

Sean
It just lacked smell and flavor, even after adjusting my grind to be substantially finer

This is the second recommendation bean sent to me. I selected few in the queue but they were all sold out and I didn't came back to select new ones before the recommendation bean shipped. I am writing this simply because curator sent me email asking me to elaborate why I gave one star rating for the last recommendation bean.

To give things a context, first, my subscription is in Exclusive tier. I have certain expectation for the premium I paid. I set my preference to Medium roast.
—1 Star: This one is Medium-Dark, not a clear violation but if the system or the curator checked my Collection, it is apparent that I usually choose between light and medium, sometimes even light.
—1 Star: for all the Caturra and Typica beans I had in my 20 years single origin coffee journey, this cup is subpar. And I actually think it blends with Robusta bean because of its pronounced toasted / smokey body and nose. Mistobox says it's Caturra / Typica but nowhere to be seen on the package or Higher Grounds website. Nothing wrong with blend. But I am subscribing to the top tier single origin beans. I cannot accept if it is blend, with Robusta. —1 Star: Roaster's website priced it at $15. Assuming Mistobox get it at $13.5 with the volume and subscription. I paid $21.16 ($126.96/6). I cannot feel satisfied with my coffee when the recommendation does not even meet the quantitative requirements. —1 Star: Tasting. I have been brewing single origin coffee for 20 years. My setup is Baratza Forte BG and Hario V60 and Buono kettle. 24 grams, 7R granularity, 95 degree Celsius starting temperature. Result is 384 gram brew in 6'30". As I stated, the pronounced toasted/smokey Robusta continues through the course and came up to the nose. It is controlled, not bad or nasty (perhaps 10-20% Robusta blend to give it body). The acidity is light and appears shortly in the front and beginning. It has a hint of nutty aroma. According to the label: "cocoa, hazelnut, rich" The hazelnut might be the closest thing. Cocoa is not. Cocoa usually comes with a chewy texture and sweetness in the end. Bitter came out in the end to blend with the toasted/smokey and stayed until the finish. Finish is kind dirty: there is this biting astringency on the tongue that I can't help licking in my mouth to try to get rid of it. It is also one of the common texture presented in Robusta beans.

If I have to say, this recommendation is worse than the last one. If the last one is "the recommendation has gone south," this one is near Patangonia.

Monica
There was too much bitterness to the finish.
1/21/2021

Nataliya
I am not a big fan of overwhelming smoky notes that hit strongly halfway through the sip. I am looking for coffee that is more smooth, full bodied, and balanced.
1/10/2021

Ricky
A bit too acidic for my taste
12/31/2020

Damien
Pour over and French press were both delicious. This is a full body coffee without a lot of sweetness, rich nutty flavors.
12/27/2020

Gregory
Soft and rounded but lacked complexity
12/17/2020

Christopher
Solid coffee for the french press.
11/29/2020

Roger
Too acidic
11/13/2020

Steve
Liked the flavor, however the complexity of Good Folks wasn't there which was why we gave it 4 out 5 vs 5 out of 5. Good Folks coffee was outstanding.
11/1/2020

Matthew
earthy
10/25/2020

Andrey
Little thin and not full flavored. Was better as a French press v.s. a pourer but still a letdown from previous coffees.
10/22/2020

Allie
Awesome!
10/21/2020

Shannon
I really like this coffee. I found it similar to the Guatemala Huehuetenango. I little more pronounced and a very solid coffee.
10/21/2020

Chris
Little too dark for us and was too chalky and burnt tasting. It wasn't as bad at cooler temps and got a little more of the chocolate from it which got the second star, but wouldn't be interested in this again.
10/21/2020

Nader
It is not as flavorful as I like
10/19/2020

Holland
I really didn’t like this coffee. It seemed dull and uninteresting, although I do like the toasty flavor of a dark roast occasionally. This just isn’t the dark roast for me.
9/25/2020

Cristina
Delicious! This bag and the previous bag have both been in line with taste and robust preferences. Thanks for selecting such great beans for us!
9/22/2020

Josh
Easy drinking, good richness. Definitely got the nutty notes. Not mind blowing amazing, but still very good.
9/19/2020

Kathleen
Not a fan of this one.
9/19/2020

Michael
ok
9/8/2020

Stephen
Very nice and easy balanced coffee. Lightly nuanced and comforting. Good daily cup of coffee. Would like to stay in this range but eith s bit bolder tasting notes.
8/25/2020

Matthew
Not my favorite. Maybe too dark or too acidic.
8/11/2020

Peet
Not my favorite.
8/7/2020

Colton
Updating my review from below and adding a star for freshness. Turned out Mistobox reached out about the roast date and I just misread the date as annotated on the package. My mistake!
7/29/2020

Dillon
too much nut my friend
7/28/2020

Bill
Good coffee but just not enjoying a full cup to my expectations
7/27/2020

Ang
Made cold brew and pour over with these beans and both are quite enjoyable. The syrupy mouthfeel, especially pronounced in the cold brew, is a strange yet interesting experience for me. A bit darker for my liking.
7/26/2020

Colton
Three stars is being polite in taking into account that this verges on being a dark roast (how was this recommended when my preferences were set to light-medium roast?)

Process: Kalita Wave (sm), 16g coffee, 205 degF, 260g H2O, extraction time: 2.5m

It's not terrible. Not picking up the tasting notes (which I rarely ever do with a darker roast). This actually doesn't appear to be heavily roasted upon looking at the beans though. Still a little lost on why this was sent out on Mistobox' end. Also was not fresh upon receipt. My first bag was three days off roast, this bag was three weeks off. I imagine we missed the peak age on this one.
7/23/2020

Robert H.
Too bitter when brewed - do not enjoy dark roasts, and this is darker than I enjoy.
7/22/2020

Kirk
It’s better than most, smooth taste, not too overwhelming
7/8/2020

Benjamin
ben liked a tad more than lauren but basically a 3 start
7/8/2020

Dmitry
It was an all around good coffee; did fairly well in a french press, made a decent espresso. I could not quite get hazelnut notes, but it was a tasty cup.
7/4/2020

Joshua
A bit too dark
7/3/2020

Dinh
Brewed with V60 and AeroPress. Not was chocolatey as I was hopping for. Overall, quite pleasant.
7/2/2020

Chris
This coffee had some really nice notes of cocoa with a full body. It wasn't necessarily aromatic, but it was comforting and low in acidity. I don't think I would consider this one a favorite as it just wasn't as exciting as I hoped it would be, but if you are looking for a coffee that goes great with cream and sugar, this one is it!
6/26/2020

Arnulfo
The coffee was not bad but it was not fresh. My Breville Barista Express is not even getting pressure. I adjusted for finer grind and went up to 19g and still no pressure. Compared to Onyx, Axum and ... I hate to say it but the Starbucks beans (lol) they kept good pressure and made great coffee.
6/20/2020

Steven
Excellent, ordered large pack, loved the smell and taste. Smooth, no aftertaste
6/16/2020

Christopher
Loved. Def a fan of the nutty vibes and gave a deep thick brew.
6/14/2020

John
Nothing spectacular, but made a good cup.
6/5/2020

Kyle
This is the type of coffee I'm looking for from Mistobox. The flavors come through strongly when brewed properly, and I enjoy the first sip as much as the last sip. It's chocolatey and rich, just like the profile says. When I'm looking for a chocolatey coffee, this is what I'm hoping for. Brewed with v60 and Encore grinder.
6/3/2020

Kevin
An impressive coffee that was roasted about four days before I received it. I tend to prefer a much darker roast but this was very good.
5/25/2020

Manisha
too bitter for my taste
5/23/2020

Mary
Very yummy and smooth! Really liked this one.
5/19/2020

Justin
Great flavors up front that evolve in an enjoyable way. The finishing taste isn't my favorite, but not terrible.
5/19/2020

Farhad
The aroma was good but couldn't extract a good espresso out of it. I would rather something richer in taste and smokier.
5/14/2020

Stephen
Loved how rich and chocolately this was. Possibly the best one yet!
5/12/2020

Bo
did not like this one
5/12/2020

Charles
I think this is a well balanced coffee. The chocolate and nutty flavors came through, and I'm enjoying it each morning. It's not too dark and has some unique flavors to it. I brewed this using my drip maker + a burr grinder set to medium-fine.
5/10/2020

Srikar
Really enjoyed this one. Really smooth and aeromatic.
5/4/2020

Dennis
We preferred the previous batch (Morning Sun) compared with Bolivia Caranavi. Bolivia is a bit too rich/dark for us. We prefer a medium roast and are looking fwd to trying the next product batch which is medium/light to see how it compares.
3/28/2020

derek
This is our least favorite of the MistoBox shipments so far - just didn't prefer the more single-note chocolatey flavors.
3/15/2020

John
Slightly darker, which I liked, with a noticeable cocoa taste. I like this one!
3/8/2020

Shannon
it's "ok" nothing memorable or exciting here
3/6/2020

Brandon
Very nice, very rich
2/25/2020

Francis
A bit darker than I usually like it, but still good.
2/13/2020

Brad
Lacked complexity, flavor is too mellow. Not good either on V60 pour over or espresso.
2/3/2020

Thomas
To dark of roast
1/25/2020

Joe
Balanced, smooth, and not too heavy. Strong cocoa notes and not much else but still delicious.
12/2/2019

Scott
Very nice taste! Smooth and not too nutty.
11/29/2019

Maria
It was okay. It seemed to have some spice in it that I did not care for but overall it was not terrible, just not for me.
11/3/2019

Chris
Not good! Please never send this again.
10/7/2019

Daniel
Was good. A little acidic for my tastes
10/7/2019

Cameron
Extremely flavorful and the perfect flavors to match my palate. It appears y'all give me a better option every time so keep em coming
9/14/2019

Mark
Perfect for the summer Caribbean heat.
8/18/2019

Andrew
Flavors not strong enough. Would like a deeper flavor.
8/10/2019

Ben
Very rich, but great acidity balance.
7/23/2019

Joshua
Bitter. Roast too Dark.
2/18/2019

Dan
Roast was much lighter than expected, I would not consider the flavor to be rich as described. Overall not a bad coffee, just light on flavor.
1/29/2019

Amelia
This tasted like a true medium roast: smooth with some acidity. Chocolate and caramel notes were evident. We both enjoyed this one.
1/29/2019

David
Darker tones, nutty flavor does shine through. would prefer slightly lighter roast
1/13/2019

Ginger
Excellent! We normally like light and medium roasts so we were hesitant, but the smoothness of the beans and freshness was amazing. Keep 'em coming!
12/2/2018

Abdulmalk
Meh
11/17/2018

Christopher
Excellent. Incredibly Rich Coffee
10/13/2018

Helena
I liked the flavor on this, as my first time having freshly roasted coffee. I used no sugar, but still added some french vanilla creamer (for reference I usually add 2-3 spoons of sugar). Rated 4/5 because I have nothing to compare it to besides preground supermarket coffee. One day I dream of drinking coffee with nothing added. I'm not there yet.
8/6/2018

Michael
Did not like the one. It smelled not very fresh and as if it had been over roasted. I brewed a cup on my Chem ex and the taste confirmed the smell. I ended up throwing the bag away. Would like a refund or another bag sent in it's place please.
7/30/2018

Kevin
This a great tasting coffee. The Nutty flavor really comes through and provides a very pleasing after taste.
7/18/2018

Katie
fabulous! One of the best I have had
7/18/2018

Timothy
Fine. Doesn't really stand out from the rest of the collection.
6/26/2018

Jeffrey
Excellent roast! I cant decide if it's better as an espresso or pour over but both are satisfying!
5/16/2018

Christine
Love this coffee!
4/2/2018

Bob
Smooth, rich, mellow chocolate/cocoa notes. Not bitter, not acidic, and nutty notes are a nice 'hint' of flavor without being overpowering. Very good body, as well. I like this!
3/19/2018

Anand
I have really liked all the Higher Grounds coffee so far - that and the Parisi have been the best
3/18/2018

Paul
very rich taste without be too strong. Smooth finish
2/26/2018

Theodore
Very nice!
2/6/2018

Steven
Good but not ash full bodied as I like, but good flavor profile
1/13/2018

Meghan
Didn’t like the flavor and it was too acidic and mild.
1/9/2018

Owen
Pretty smooth coffee with some nice nutty notes. A bit weak tasting, however.
1/5/2018

James
Good cup! Once I made the grind a bit coarser than usual, the taste really came out.
12/19/2017

Brian
Hazlenut came through very distinctly. Really good, not too bitter. One of my favorites.
12/14/2017

Crystal
I don't know what it is, but no matter what I do, this coffee tastes overly bitter. I don't taste any of the flavor notes that are listed. I would not want this coffee again.
