Description
The Espresso Clutch was carefully roasted for you by Populace Coffee. Populace's house espresso is a constant rotation of seasonal coffees. These coffees are chosen to fit into a balanced flavor profile. These beans were grown by various small producers from Colombia and Guatemala. This coffee is rich with notes of dark chocolate, dried cherry and sugar cane sweetness.

This coffee was great. Really juicy as a French press, and more juicy as it cooled. Unfortunately I drank all of it as French press and didn't have enough time to try as espresso! I will try espresso next time.

Unfortunately we did not like this coffee. We use a superautomatic espresso machine and it came out sour.

I was able to get a consistently good pull, but the sour tones overwhelmed the other flavors for me when drinking without milk. Much smoother with the milk.

Very acidic, sour cherries maybe. Did not get sweet cane sugar notes.
Beans were super hard, took forever with the Lido hand grinder.
Flair Espresso brew time: 25 seconds @ 9 bar.
I will try a few more times with different settings, but likely will throw the beans away.

I found Espresso Clutch a decent shot, though not as chocolate as I prefer. Short lasting crema leads to a medium to thin cup even at a 1:1 ratio.

This coffee was too bright, too lemony, almost sweet, and not rich enough. It has a strong cherry note, and doesn’t brew like a dark roast. We had to toss some of it because it was nearly undrinkable.

This coffee roast was exceptionally hard to get the right grind for my espresso machine. I used a third of the bag trying to get the extraction correct. I haven't had this problem with other coffees from MistoBox. I haven't yet gotten a good enough extraction to be able to tell you about the actual taste.

Too lightly roasted. Had to set the grinder to <0, and still could not get a pull to go more than 20s. Shot splattered everywhere as water channelled. Sometimes it tasted OK, but not often. Funny aftertaste.

This espresso roast is pleasant but not spectacular. It has no bitter notes which I am happy with, however, it could have more flavor

Beautiful body, fullness and richness of flavors. Red fruit, soft coca and a clean round sweetness predominate. I used this for espresso with my Rancilio Silvia and loved the crema and heart I achieved with the pull.

Flavorless. Love Bay City and really wanted this coffee to be good. Also, not sure how your service works (if the roaster ships it directly to me, or you have an HQ that receives from the roaster and then sends to me but shipping took a while to arrive.

Couldn't get the flavor of this coffee at all! Also the beans looked medium roasted but found it low on caffeine strength. Would not like to repeat.

It is a good coffee with a very rich aroma. It doesn't go very well with the espresso maker though! It tasted like sour and under-brewed coffee each time I made espresso with them.

I'd been eyeing this blend for a while, but knew my MistoBox was coming shortly. I didn't check the website just so I'd be surprised for a change. Well, it came. It was crazy easy to dial in - #2A on the Sette 270W. I got it done on the 3rd shot.
Beyond that, it tastes amazing. Lots of rich chocolate notes, a great addition to milk drinks and even a solid shot on its own (I'm still learning to enjoy straight shots of spro). I'll be adding this to the small rotation of espresso offerings residing in the Sette hopper.

I'm impressed. This produced consistently good shots of espresso! Not exceptional (because I think my setup is not that great), but good! I'd rate it 5 stars espresso, 4 stars in milk, and 4 stars in water. Also all the coffees have been so good so far, I may have to start adjusting my rating just so I can have somewhere to go :)
Taste-wise, I found this to be less sour and punchy than the previous coffees, but had a really nice balance of sweetness and other more bitter flavors. I think some of that subtlety gets lost outside of the espresso shot. I was skeptical when I selected the possibility of "espresso blend" in the subscription since I generally have not had good luck with them, but I was really impressed with this one. I'm very happy to have blends like this coming through the rotation.
Tough to pick a favorite so far, but here's the rundown: my wife preferred the UltraViolet (water), I preferred the Tanzania Twega AA (Milk), and this has been the best espresso.

Nice coffee, not super rich in flavor. A little thin and bitter -- even when modifying extraction time. Still better than 99% of coffee out there.

This was my lucky number 7 shipment from Mistobox, and by far the best yet. The crema was wonderful, the taste of caramel in a latte, and not overly bold or bitter in the least. Will be purchasing this again.

I want to explain this rating. For espresso I like it. The problem with espresso for ME is that I only enjoy it in a latte or cappuccino type form which is richer than I would want daily (well I want it, but shouldn't really). Also, if I drink it black it is too much to enjoy, but in latte form, all espresso tastes the same to me. Well, unless I would do a side by side taste test. I prefer a medium/dark regular coffee for every day. i LOVE the ones that have other notes too such as nutty, chocolatey, caramely, etc. Not flavored, just notes. But this clutch is a Sunday brunch coffee to me, not an every day enjoyment.
