This coffee will be fresh roasted for you. We expect Passion House Coffee Roasters will roast and ship this coffee in 1-2 business days depending on their roasting schedule.
The Chicago House Blend was carefully roasted for you by Passion House Coffee Roasters. This blend was named after Passion House's love for house music and for the great city where they grew up and live. This coffee is funky, fresh, and will make you move. It is well balanced with a nice body, citrus flavors and rounds out at the end with notes of caramel and citrus.
Very average. Not great, not bad but not something I care to repeat.
I was a big fan of the blend! The flavor was great and the packaging was unique. I would buy this again in the future.
A solid bean with a good flavor profile. Perhaps a bit simple, and surprisingly insensitive to brew method. This made it frustrating to try to manipulate.
This is a solid basic coffee. Nothing too exciting, but nothing offensive.
Different and enjoyable
Loved this coffee. Super balanced, not too rich. Fresh and invigorating.
This blend was nice. The citrus was a little much for my liking.
Too weak of a blend for me.
Perfectly balanced coffee.
The last two bean shipments that i have received have both been late due to roaster not shipping on time. Also, the most recent shipment i have received today(4-16-18) is quite old! I have photos(which I can send over if needed) of the packaging stating it was roasted on 4-9-18. The whole point of a coffee subscription such as this is that the beans are suppose to arrive on time and as fresh as possible. I know that mistobox is not necessarily at fault for this but if the coffee does not arrive on time and is not the utmost freshness then there is no point in having this subscription.
I really like the citrus that I can taste in this!
It tasted cheap and stale.
Nothing overly noteworthy that jumped out, tasted nice but wasn't the best we've had so far
Too much citrus and not enough coffee flavor.
It could be me, our way of brewing, or the beans simply went bad. This blend lacks a body and tastes watery. We even tried altering the grind slightly (8->7, 3->2.5 etc), but still.
Again a very bland mix, with no stand out notes. I am using a burr grinder drip coffee machine if that helps. It's been a while since my previous round of subscriptions but there were some better flavors in there (which I obviously do not remember).
One of the best coffees I have ever tasted. Prefect for French press or pour over.
Did not like much
Best one we've tried yet! New favorite at our house. Roast is great- flavorful but overwhelming
Nice and balanced taste, nice citrus freshness but not too acidic with the caramel rounding it out.
Very nice acidity and great way to start off a weekend morning. Works very well in a french press. I don't typically use cream / milk but this coffee worked quite well with a little cream to mellow it out.
This coffee was a bit sour to the taste. Did not like it so much. Would like a more bold and less citrus coffee.
I don't like the citrus flavors
Well balanced. Delicious
Could really taste the honey note that was a little overwhelming at first but grew to enjoy it. Most different in my opinion and stands out the most from the other beans I've received so far.
I really like this coffee. I could definitely taste the caramel notes.
Delicious, felt more mildly roasted than medium, would buy it again in a heart beat. Not sure funky is fitting, but fresh, smooth, slightly nutty.
Very flavorful and balanced.
This coffee brewed too light for my liking. I wasn't getting the chocolate notes that some reviewers mentioned, but maybe a bit of citrus.
Fine coffee, but not very exciting in any direction, don't think I'll remember it
Excellent as a cold brew blend. Crisp and refreshing!
Better than the first one (Colombia Tolimba). Less acidity, better balanced. But flavor not that interesting/pronounced and a bit "weak". Still - moving in the right direction.
While this was good, it was probably my least favorite of all the beans I've received so far. It had a slightly sour undertone that I didn't like, Maybe it was the citrus??
At first I felt underwhelmed by this blend, but it grew on me and was pleasant first thing in the morning. I think I expected more punch with the flavor based on the bouquet.
This one was okay. I could taste the citrusy flavors more than the caramel, and it was not really my kind of coffee. It was also very thin...not as full bodied mouthfeel as I like (is that a thing?). The roasters and their story seem pretty cool, and I loved the description of the coffee, so I had high hopes, but it didn't work for me.
Very weak. Not much flavor.
As advertised. Wouldn't change a word of the description.
Gross. Hard to drink.
I wanna say this coffee is good, maybe just okay. I'll go 3.5 stars. I'm not sure if the notes are too subtle or if it's just not strong enough for my preferences. So far from all the coffees I've tried from Mistobox this one would probably be in last place.
Very nice well balanced blend
This was a rally balanced coffee with just enough complexity to peak through. Nice citrus on the back end. A great cup on the chemex.
Not a lot of taste
I would have liked it a tad bolder; however, a 21 gram coffee to 300 ml of water (14.25:1) ratio was a sweet spot for me. I was primarily using a Technivorm Cup-One Coffee Maker and it turned out nice. I wasn't tasting the citrus notes, but I did get some of the caramel and a tad of chocolate when I went to the 14:1 ratio. For those saying there is no taste, it would be interesting to see what your grind size and ratios are.
Nothing special but not bad and a smooth pour over cup with noticeable notes of citrus. A great cold brew!
Not a fan. Very weak and not much flavor. Almost watery even if I went to a 1:14 or 1:15 ratio.
Very good roast, was very balanced out of a chemex.
Balanced. The Nova was still better. I think I'd like to try a darker blend that's not fruity
Nothing particularly "awful" about this coffee. I go back and forth between feeling overwhelmed by the caramel and overwhelmed by the citrus. Perhaps that's also dependent on how I'm preparing my cup too. Either way, this coffee leaves me with a weird after taste.
Just had a very "weak" taste
Love it. Light and lovely!
Meh. Not bold enough. Was this coffee or flavored water?
Very good, maybe a tiny bit more robust than I've learned I like, but really tasty!
Both of us were surprised by how much we liked this! There was a lightness to the beans and the aroma especially was great.
enjoyed this coffee. Good flavor and not as citrusy as kickapoo, which I prefer.
Thin, boring. The roast is a nice medium, but the coffee doesn't have a lot of taste or aroma. No body. I also don't think I like my coffee to have citrus flavor.
Favorite so far!
Good flavor and citrus flavor
Wasn't the biggest fan of how aromatic and citrusy it was. I feel like the chocolate fell by the wayside and was overpowered with that flowery, vibrant citrus taste. I really prefer a bean that is darker with a more full-bodied flavor.
This is excellently balanced and works very well in the French press.
This was a little too citrusy and acidic for me for either Chemex or French press
Not a fan of this one
Russell & Will
More citrusy than I'd have thought. Nice bright flavor.
LOVED this coffee! So smooth and has a great flavor.
Best so far. Love the aroma, and the flavor matches it....Still hasn't been topped, but Verve is right there!
The Chicago House Blend was better than the 1950 blend. The coffee was sligtly acidic. We were not fans of the citrus notes. We did not find it bitter. The flavor was a little on the burnt side. However the aroma and color of the bean were pleasing. We also enjoyed the aftertaste. On our second brew we did up the strength on our coffeemaker because we felt the first brew was weak. We enjoyed it much better as a stronger brew.
The citrus notes in this roast were overwhelming present, too acidic, and bitter for my liking.
Not my favorite
A little too acidic and citrus-y for my taste. Still good but not as good as previous coffees :)
This bean was weak but less bitter than our first shipment. We found that we have to use twice to three times as much coffee grounds in our French Press to get a flavor that we like. Not happy:-(
I agree, well balanced; good notes all around
average in my opinion
Strong aroma to wake you up in the morning. A nice rich medium brown darkness with no acidity. The aftertaste reminds me of spring.
Gina and Dan
We were worried we wouldn't like this due to the citrus flavors and when smelling the whole beans it did have a strong citrus smell. But once it was brewed it was not bad at all. When using the same amount of ground it seemed to be a little weaker then we expected but overall it had good flavor
Smooth, chocolatey and good to the last drop. Definitely a well rounded standard cup.
Decent coffee but it didn't knock my socks off.
After a few brews of this coffee, I'm not sure if I like this one too much. There's something at the end of sipping this cup that rubs me the wrong way, but I can't quite put my finger on it as to what it is.
Follow up from the Email:
I liked the previous coffee more. The coffee didn't seem acidic or sour. I think it tasted a bit bitter at the end of a sip. I don't typically pay attention to the color of the bean, but I think I typically enjoy some of the lighter stuff in comparison to this. I may come in to edit this review after I brew another cup in the afternoon.
tried several combination but could never overcome the bitter taste.
Good cup of coffee.
Probably the best coffee I have EVER had. It's hard to put my finger on what exactly makes it so good, but it was GREAT!! It made a very smooth cappuccino.
I was a little skeptical when I opened up the bag and saw the lighter color of the beans (lighter for what I'm used to), but again I was surprised by this coffee. You can definitely taste the citrus as it first touches your palate, which I'm not a huge fan of, but then the caramel aftertaste blends nicely with the citrus to mellow it out. A little too sour for me, but not a bad coffee! I think I was expecting more of a berry and chocolate combo
The positives were that this blend was very balanced, often coming through after the first sip. The negative about this blend was it was too floral for our taste. Hard hitting lemon notes up-front.
This was a little too citrusy for me.
Very average. Definitely not bad, just nothing special, either.
The description sounds fantastic! However the final product did not live up to my expectations. Could have been more fruity/floral/aromatic.
Surprisingly bright for a medium roast. Was pleasantly surprised.
Delicious great cup of coffee. Loved the smell while brewing. Would like a bolder/darker roast.
The flavors were good but I generally like coffee darker than this. Thanks!
Very bright and tangy. Nice crema and okay with steamed milk, but I'm not a fan to drink this black.
Good but seems average or standard for a coffee.
While, smooth, this coffee is a bit bitter and leaves my stomach a little uneasy after the cup is finished.
The citrus finish on this coffee left a bitter aftertaste in my mouth. Sadly, I only used the amount of coffee produced in the first grind and then put it aside.
I like the balance but it was fairly acidic
This is such a smooth cup of coffee, I love it. It smells awesome, and tastes great, I don't even have to add any creamer or sugar half the time!
Liked this very much. Much more flavorful than the last type you sent.
Delicious! Love the smell of it brewing!
We would like something a little bolder. Also, can we get it ground? Our grinder has played out!!
Great flavor complexity but a little light for my tastes.
Would not have tried this one first, but I love it in the press! No sugar or milk needed, but best to drink while it's hot.
This coffee was alright. Think I prefer coffees that have more nutty/ chocolate flavors
Solid. The first pot I brewed I thought it was just OK a little on the light side. The next couple pots seemed more dead on.
I liked this with food BUT not as good as some of the other coffees with citrus notes.
I enjoyed this coffee, it had a great flavor profile.
Purely in the "meh" category; it's not BAD, but it certainly isn't remarkable either.
I was scared off a little by all lemons in the picture for this coffee, but it actually turned out to be one of the most balanced coffees I have gotten so far. Bright citrus instead of sour citrus.
This coffee did not match my profile. I don't like the citrus flavor that is strongly represented in this roast.
This one is OK. I give it 3 stars (out of 5). It's a mild flavor, and I can taste a slight hint of citrus. But I would not describe it as "funky". But it is a pleasant tasting coffee,
Good tasting. Smooth.
Amazingly smooth and sweet with a nice medium body
This one was okay but still not my favorite. Do not like citrus.
The reddish color after brew was pretty interesting but this roast didn't have a strong enough or very good flavor to me. This was the first subscription bag that I didn't finish but my husband didn't mind it.
Not strong enough flavor even in the Frech Press. Cannot really taste the notes.
We have tried this 3x. We find it to be well balanced. We don't pick up caramel notes but overwhelmingly citrus. When I asked my wife which coffee would you like to have today, she replied: not the Chicago House Blend.
I didn't care for this coffee. Roast was very light and didn't seem fresh. Dry beans with no oils. A Folgers type coffee.
Everything I love is in this coffee. Just reading the label got me excited! Everyone that I've forced to try it likes it too. This is the first coffee I've had that has touted "almond butter" in the flavor profile, and it is definitely a winner.
I liked it a lot. I don't believe I've had coffee with citrus notes in it. It was very different than what I've had in the past. This is why I love this company, they pick selections that I would never try on my own.
I didn't' love this coffee. Seemed too citrus to me which is not my favorite.
Awesome, I'm not getting so much of the citrus. More of a darker acidic chocolate to me. It's got a punch of flavor up front and has a smooth transition to the aftertaste. My favorite coffee and the only one to get 5 stars so far. (*Was made with a splash of milk)
Best one yet! Love the smooth, buttery flavor with a late pop of fruitiness.
I liked the citrusy taste. I felt the coffee was a bit watery.
My wife drinks her coffee with milk and sugar. She loved this coffee.
We were really excited about getting this coffee, unfortunately it is very underwhelming. We tried brewing this coffee in the french press and with our drip machine with a variety of coffee amounts and grinds. We were never able to get a full bodied flavor. The coffee would have the right citrus, slightly nutty, slightly caramel notes, but always tasted weak or watered down.... despite increasing the amount of coffee used and increasing the steep times.
Nice flavor, my wife enjoyed it. Not for me though, I prefer a darker coffee.
I loved the aroma of this coffee, and I enjoyed the initial taste. But this particular blend, for me, had a very distinct after taste that I wasn't much a fan of.
Did't love it. Has a very bitter finish and dries out the mouth. On the thin side in terms of body. Tastes a bit over-roasted.
Weak and floral. Not at all like our preferred flavor profile.
The smell, the taste, love everything about this coffee
This one is kind of sour.
Beautiful, light caramel flavor in this one. The citrus makes this coffee seem a bit lighter roast than it actually is. Quite pleasant balance between the medium roast and the bright flavors.
This was a light cup overall, but within that it had a very nice flavor profile. It was full of energy, had light fruity flavorings, all while the volume was slightly being turned up after each sip.
